Love Guide for Childhood Sweethearts

Chapter 54: Playing to Your Strengths

"Yes! I, a yellow-faced woman, am the only one to accompany you." Mother Lin looked at her lover with charming eyes and said in an exaggerated and sad tone.

"No way! Madam is still as beautiful as a flower." Upon hearing this, Lin's father chased after her and showered her with sweet words, making his lover very happy.

When it was time for Lin Qiwei to finish her evening study, the Lin couple was waiting at the intersection for their daughter to come back on her bicycle.

Lin Qiwei stood at the traffic light and looked at them across the street with a warm smile on her face. She waited for the light to turn green and ran over pushing the car.

"Why are you here again? It's getting cold." Lin Qiwei said as she pushed her bicycle.

"Go out for a walk at night to help you digest your food and fall asleep." Lin's mother looked at her gently and said, "I didn't pick you up from school. I was just at our intersection." She smiled and said, "It's not safe to walk at night."

"There are classmates." Lin Qiwei pointed at the students on the road.

"We want to pick you up, but that's not possible!" Lin's mother said, looking at her gently.

"Okay!" Lin Qiwei said as she looked at them with a happy smile on her face, "The security is pretty good nowadays. This roadside stall is booming in the middle of the night!"

"Do you want to eat something? Are you hungry?" Father Lin looked at her with concern and asked.

"Just eat some fruit, and have a glass of milk before bed to help you sleep." Lin Qiwei looked at them with her dark eyes reflecting the light from the street lamps and said, "Don't eat too much, it will make you fat."

"Ask Aunt Zhang to make whatever you want to eat. Don't be polite!" Mother Lin said, looking at her gently.

"Seasonal fruits are fine." Lin Qiwei looked at them with a smile and said, "I'll eat more for breakfast and lunch."

The family of three returned home chatting casually.

"Go upstairs first. I have something good to give you." Mother Lin looked at her mysteriously and said.

"Oh!" Lin Qiwei responded obediently and went upstairs with her schoolbag on her back.

Mother Lin took the gold bars upstairs and placed them on the desk. "Here you go."

"Gold?" Lin Qiwei looked at her with wide eyes and questioningly asked.

"Everyone gets a share of the prize money from Nannan's competition, so you have to accept it! It's a very memorable gift." Mother Lin looked at her gently and said, "When you start working and earn a salary, buy Nannan a gift too."

"I...I..." Lin Qiwei muttered softly, "I can't afford such an expensive gift."

"Silly child, the gift may be small, but the thought is great." Mother Lin looked at her with deep, penetrating eyes and said, "Just do your best. No one measures the value of a gift by money. What matters most is the thought." She squatted down and looked at her at eye level. "Don't put pressure on yourself! Nannan bought us gifts to make us happy and to make them memorable." She held her hands and said, "Do you understand?"

"Oh!" Lin Qiwei responded in a low voice.

"Weiwei, if you study hard, you'll get a scholarship. Can you save it and buy me a gift?" Mother Lin thought seriously and said, "Let's make use of your academic strengths."

Hearing this, Lin Qiwei looked at her with sparkling eyes and said, "Yes!"

"Go to bed early! Go to bed at 11 o'clock and don't stay up late, otherwise it will not be worth it if you sleep in class during the day." Lin's mother stood up and looked at her seriously.

"I know." Lin Qiwei looked at her with her almond-shaped eyes and said, "Put your effort into practice during normal times. I spend all my time in the classroom doing my papers during breaks, except for going to the bathroom. Only by getting enough sleep can you grow taller."

"Hey! That's right!" Lin's mother said happily, "Okay, I won't delay your study. Remember to eat your fruit and drink your milk."

"Yeah!" Lin Qiwei nodded, stood up and watched her leave.

Mother Lin pushed open the bedroom door and walked in with a smile on her face, "Gold, our daughter gave us gold!"

"You really like it so much!" Father Lin said without looking up from his bed, holding his notebook. "You have so many jewels in your jewelry box, but I don't see you liking them so much."

"What I like is not the gold, but my daughter's kindness." Mother Lin jumped onto the bed with joy.

Father Lin glanced at her, whose mouth was grinning from ear to ear, and said, "Look how happy you are."

"You are not happy!" Lin's mother said with a smile on her face and shaking her head.

"Glad." Father Lin put the notebook on his lap aside and said, "Is Weiwei okay?"

"There's pressure." Mother Lin said, sitting cross-legged. "I told her that the gift is small, but the thought is great. She should use her strengths in studying to win the scholarship."

"Give her the right guidance and pay more attention to her! Don't compare yourself to others or get stuck in a rut." Father Lin nodded and said, "Don't burn the midnight oil! It puts too much pressure on yourself."

"I know." Mother Lin said with an unusually gentle look, "Go to bed on time at 11 o'clock. I will go up to check on you when I get up at night."

From then on, whenever Lin's mother got up at night, she would tiptoe upstairs to check on Weiwei to see if she was sleeping well.

Lin Qiwei never realized that she was so sleepy and had a heavy workload that she fell asleep as soon as she lay down. Even thunder couldn't wake her up.

Lin's mother really likes gold bars and even talks about them in her dreams.

&*&

Lin's father went on a business trip to the imperial capital. In the evening, the fiery clouds dyed half of the sky red.

The buzzing sound of pigeons chased the sunset home and landed on the roof of the tiled house.

Lin's father waited for his son at the hotel and said with a smile, "Here's the camera you asked for."

"Let me see our daughter's heroic victory in the competition." Lin Xingzhi excitedly grabbed the camera. "There's so little media coverage. I can't even find a photo."

"Normal! There wasn't much media coverage of the National Games." Father Lin said, looking at him with his dark eyes.

"Uncle Lin."

"Shen Ze also came with Xingzhi." Father Lin looked at Shen Ze kindly and said, "Sit down!" He pointed to the sofa, pulled up his trousers and sat down.

Shen Ze then sat opposite him.

"Go to the refrigerator if you want to drink anything." Father Lin looked at him kindly and pointed at the refrigerator with his chin.

"Okay!" Shen Ze got up and went to the bathroom to wash his hands, then took out two bottles of calcium milk from the refrigerator, inserted the plastic tube into one of the bottles and placed it on the coffee table in front of his friend.

"Nannan was so scared by the starting gun that she even shrank her neck!" Lin Xingzhi said worriedly as he sat on the double sofa holding the camera and stared at the screen.

"When the starting gun went off while you were running, didn't you shiver in fear?" Father Lin crossed his legs and looked at him unhappily. "The next race was much better."

"Holy crap!" Lin Xingzhi said, staring at the screen in disbelief. "Our daughter won by being half a body length ahead of the other person."

"Look at the 800-meter freestyle, Nannan is almost one lap ahead of others." Father Lin said with an extremely gentle expression.

"How many gold medals did Nannan win?" Lin Xingzhi said without raising his head.

"I won all the medals in the competition, six in total." Father Lin's eyes were slit with joy.

"Holy shit!" Lin Xingzhi looked at him in disbelief, "Really? Fake?"
