Chapter 22: Love is hard to escape

Inescapable love

As the night deepened, the atmosphere within the palace seemed to grow increasingly oppressive, as every door within the palace seemed to conceal countless conspiracies and dangers. Princess Shen's conversation with Zhao Hao, though superficially calm, had quietly triggered a more complex game. Princess Shen knew she wasn't just outmatching the Grand Empress Dowager; the Emperor before her was also a chess player she couldn't ignore.

Princess Shen stood before Zhao Hao, her heartbeat unaffected by the previous conversation, instead growing calmer. She knew that if she couldn't fully arouse Zhao Hao's vigilance and trust at this moment, her plan would be impossible. She no longer waited for Zhao Hao's response, but took the initiative to walk towards him and stop at his side.

"Your Majesty, the power struggle in the palace has intensified, and the Empress Dowager's conspiracy is becoming increasingly apparent. Her purpose is not only to suppress me, but also to completely weaken Your Majesty's power and control the entire court." She said softly, and although her voice was low, it was full of incomparable certainty and sharpness.

Zhao Hao tilted his head slightly, his eyes deep, but his expression as he looked at her was not very volatile: "What do you think I should do?"

"The only way to completely break free from the constraints of the Empress Dowager is to eliminate her and those who support her one by one. Your Majesty, you must make a decision and stand on whose side, instead of being swayed by others." Princess Shen's eyes became more determined. She knew that she was already standing at the forefront of this power struggle. Once she showed any weakness, she would be swallowed by the storm.

A complex glint flashed in Zhao Hao's eyes, as if he was considering every word she said. After a long silence, he finally spoke: "I understand what you said. But some things cannot be accomplished alone."

Princess Shen smiled slightly and nodded gently: "Yes, some things must be done with the help of appropriate forces. But only Your Majesty has enough power to completely change all this."

A faint smile appeared on Zhao Hao's face. That smile was not warm, but rather a bit cold. "It seems that you still have some confidence in me."

Princess Shen stared at him, her heart slightly moved, but she remained calm on the surface: "Trust is always a two-way street. If Your Majesty sincerely hopes that the situation in the palace will change, then I will naturally do my best."

Princess Shen was taken aback for a moment, then a flash of understanding flashed in her eyes. Zhao Hao finally revealed his true intentions. He didn't completely distrust her, but wanted to use her to resolve those dangers that he couldn't easily deal with.

"That's exactly what I hope for." Princess Shen nodded gently, her tone revealing unquestionable confidence. "If Your Majesty can trust me, then I will definitely help you eliminate these threats."

Zhao Hao smiled slightly: "Okay, in that case, let's start the next step."

……

It was already late at night when Princess Shen left the emperor's side hall. The night sky was dotted with stars, but her conversation with Zhao Hao hadn't dispelled her doubts. Instead, she realized she had entered a more complex vortex. Although she appeared to have the emperor's trust, she knew in her heart that she was not Zhao Hao's only option. Other forces within the palace, even the Grand Empress Dowager, could still intervene at any time.

She knew that winning this palace struggle would require not only wisdom but also patience and courage. The Empress Dowager's power was deeply entrenched, and a single fatal strike would be difficult and might even come at an unforeseen cost. Princess Shen knew that every move she made must be carefully considered, and every decision could have devastating consequences.

"Princess, you're back." Cheng Jiahong immediately came forward when he saw Princess Shen walking into his palace.

"What happened?" Princess Shen did not answer immediately, but looked at Cheng Jiahong with a hint of anxiety in her eyes.

Cheng Jiahong hesitated for a moment, then finally spoke: "Princess, some rumors have spread in the palace. It seems that some people have begun to quietly discuss your position."

Princess Shen frowned slightly: "Who is discussing my position?"

Cheng Jiahong lowered his head and said, "It's some ministers in the court. It seems that some of them are taking this opportunity to challenge your authority and even begin to doubt your loyalty."

Princess Shen's expression instantly turned grim. She didn't respond immediately, but instead walked to the table, took down a small box, and slowly opened it. Inside was a letter, the envelope already sealed with several seals. She pulled the letter out of the envelope, read it, and a cold light flashed in her eyes.

"It seems that some people don't trust me at all." Princess Shen said calmly, her voice as cold as an icy blade. "They have begun to doubt my loyalty. Then I will let them know that everything they do will eventually become an opportunity for me to strike back."

Cheng Jiahong looked at her with a glint of admiration in his eyes: "The princess is indeed intelligent, worthy of being a hero in the deep palace."

Princess Shen smiled softly, her eyes still deep. "I don't want to rely on others, but if they don't appreciate my kindness, then I can only make them understand who is the ultimate winner in this power struggle."

"Okay." Princess Shen took a deep breath and looked up at the dark night sky outside the window. The wind blew the curtains, and the candles in the room swayed slightly, illuminating her resolute face.

The situation is turbulent, and Princess Shen's court struggle has just begun.
