On the rewards for successfully defeating a boss

Chapter 87 All He Wants Is a Puppet

It was a long time later when the convoy drove into the Chi family courtyard and lined up in a line at the door of the old house. The whole journey took nearly two hours. Chen Qian had been stiff and dared not move. Now his whole body was sore and it was very uncomfortable.

The car door opened, and Chen Qian was asked to get out of the car by the man in the suit. When he got out of the car, he saw many men in suits standing in front of the car in a neat and orderly manner, and he couldn't help but feel a little scared.

The door of the old house was wide open, just like on the day of the birthday party, as if waiting for the arrival of guests. A middle-aged man was standing inside the door, followed by four or five servants. They stood in a line from the door to the inside of the house.

The middle-aged man was wearing a Zhongshan suit. His voice was hoarse but unusually loud. He said, "Mr. Chen, we have been waiting for you for a long time. Please follow me."

Chen Qian swallowed, feeling a hard lump in his throat, and finally responded with a "Hmm."

Chen Qian felt very complicated when he entered the mansion again. Last time he came here for a feast, but this time it was directly upgraded to a kidnapping.

In front of him was a middle-aged man who called himself the butler, surrounded by several servants, who followed him closely. He didn't even want to think about escaping.

The housekeeper led him upstairs, down an unfamiliar corridor, and around several corners until they reached a tightly closed double-leaf mahogany door. Chen Qian stared absentmindedly at the door. The wood grain on it was some darker, some lighter, and looked a lot like the string of beads his father wore every day.

"Mr. Chen, come in." The housekeeper's resounding voice caught him off guard. Without giving him time to hesitate, he pushed the door open, stood by the wall, and fell silent. Chen Qian had no choice but to drag his feet, deliberately walking in slowly. He lowered his head, not daring to look anywhere, staring only at the tip of his shoes and the small patch of floor in front of him.

"Sit down." An old voice came from the left front of Chen Qian. He nodded and continued to shuffle along. Old Master Chi did not get angry or urge him, and only made a new move after Chen Qian sat down.

A set of Kung Fu tea techniques were performed within Chen Qian's sight, flowing smoothly. Chen Qian propped himself up and looked up at him. He still looked like a kind old man. At the birthday party, he had been at a distance and couldn't see clearly. Now, with only a tea table between them, he finally saw the old man's face clearly. Although there were deep wrinkles and old age, he could vaguely see some of Chi Mu's shadow in it.

Even after the tea was brewed and served to Chen Qian, the old man didn't say anything. Instead, he told him lightly that the tea was good and worth tasting.

Of course Chen Qian didn't know how to appreciate tea. The child was at the age where he needed to add sugar, milk and boba to his tea. He couldn't even tell what the cups on Chen Tian's tea table were called. He didn't even know if the sweetness would linger after passing through his tongue. He could only pretend to sip it.

"Boy from the Chen family, how about this tea?" the old man asked him.

"Very good." Chen Qian replied with his neck stiffened.

"It's good. Drink more. You won't get the chance to enjoy tea outside."

After talking about this and that for a long time, Mr. Chi didn't get to the point. Chen Qian was almost relaxed when he changed the subject.

The muscles that had just rested suddenly collapsed, and Chen Qian's hand trembled, and the scalding hot tea fell on the skin around the rim of the cup. He endured it and didn't scream. Chen Qian secretly withdrew his hand and rubbed the skin that was beginning to turn red.

"Denmark, huh? It's perfect for young people, especially people like you." Old Master Chi scraped the floating tea leaves with the lid of his teacup, looking relaxed. "Put aside what you need to put aside after you leave. Otherwise, your family won't be worried, right?"

Chen Qian was stung by his threatening tone. His hands trembled slightly as he asked uncertainly, "What did you say?"

Old Master Chi looked at him for a long moment, then laughed. "It seems you don't know yet. Not long ago, I invited your family to visit my island. But don't worry, your brother has already taken them away."

Chen Qian gritted his teeth, feeling genuinely annoyed by the cheerful look of the 70-year-old man in front of him.

He really didn't know about this, but he was even more surprised that Chen Tian had concealed such a big thing.

"What do you want from me? What benefit can you gain from me?"

"If you want Xiaomu to take that position, he needs someone's support. But if people know that he has a close relationship with you..." Old Master Chi paused deliberately.

"Mr. Chi, you will have a house full of children and grandchildren on your birthday party. Why do you have to let Chi Mu sit in this seat? He doesn't want to." Chen Qian said hatefully.

"Really? That's because he hasn't taken this position yet. He would like it, whether it's the Chi family or anything else." Old Master Chi still had a smile on his face, but his tone suddenly turned cold. "But... a large family with many descendants. Yu Yuan didn't understand such a simple principle, which forced me to replace him. I hope Xiaomu can understand this as you do."

"What?" Chen Qian suppressed his shock, not letting it show on his face. He hoped he had misunderstood what he had said.

"I spent so much time setting up the situation to finally let him take the throne. It's very difficult to replace him, but fortunately, there is always a way." Old Master Chi broke his delusion. His kind face didn't change much, but Chen Qian felt that it was only filled with a chilling coldness, like a demon escaped from hell. "Xiao Mu is not very content either, but I think it's natural for young people not to care about things. As long as he learns his lesson sooner."

When coming out of the study, Chen Qian could hardly control himself.

He had never imagined that Chi Yuyuan's accident was also caused by Old Man Chi. Chen Qian couldn't believe that he could be so cruel to his own grandson! Just for a lousy position that anyone could take! The damn old man didn't want an heir to the family head at all; it would be more accurate to say he was cultivating a puppet. He just wanted a puppet who would support his life's work without any bottom line.

What if Chi Mu had persisted? What if he hadn't become a puppet to be controlled?

Chen Qian's back teeth ached from biting his teeth, and some of his rationality returned to him. He muttered to himself: I believe in Chi Mu.

They wanted to leave here urgently, but the housekeeper who led the way was not in a hurry. He sent Chen Qian out the same way he came. The group walked slowly, and only Chen Qian, who was surrounded in the middle, could not breathe.

When they arrived at the door, the butler and the man in the suit handed Chen Qian over again, and almost escorted him to the Mercedes-Benz at the door. The vibration of the engine brought bursts of buzzing sounds, and Chen Qian subconsciously looked back at the house.

A gray figure flashed through a window on the second floor, and Chen Qian captured the entire moment of the man's hesitation.

That face looked very much like Chi Mu.
