The Bad Girl's Quick Transmigration System: Traveling Back and Forth
Chapter 605: Honeycomb Phantom
The shadow of Black Wind City seemed even thicker than elsewhere. For most residents living within its walls, "The Hive" was a name known only in whispers and fear. That area on the city's edge, shrouded in grime, chaos, and despair, was a wasteland of civilized order, a dark corner impenetrable to the light of law.
The atmosphere at the Falcon Squad's temporary base was as dignified as the sky before a storm. Team Leader Lin Wei stood before a crude map, her fingertips unconsciously tracing the vague area marking the approximate boundaries of the "Beehive." The lines on the map were crude and chaotic, as if silently depicting the disorder of the region.
"Stay vigilant, communicate with the wounded and doctors, and gather more information about the 'Hive'!" Lin Wei's voice was calm, yet undeniably penetrating. She had just finished listening to team member Sun Mei's report on the vendor and his relatives in the 'Hive'. It was only a solitary piece of evidence, a vague warning, but in Lin Wei's years of combat experience, this kind of intelligence, coming from the grassroots and tinged with primal fear, often concealed the most dangerous truths.
The Black Wind Demon. That very name alone was enough to terrify the citizens of Black Wind City. Years ago, he was a major threat to the city, brutal and cunning, practicing evil techniques, responsible for countless innocent deaths. Later, it was rumored that the then-city lord, along with several experts, had severely defeated him and disappeared, leaving everyone presumed to have been executed or fled. Now, that name was heard again, linked to the lawless "Beehive," and Lin Wei's heart sank.
If the news was true, it meant a wounded wolf had returned to its most difficult-to-find lair, licking its wounds and waiting for another chance to pounce. Allowing it to exist in the city was like hanging a sword of Damocles over everyone's head.
For the next two days, the Falcon Squad dispersed, carefully gathering information about the "Beehive." Disguised as prostitutes, they ventured into the periphery of the "Beehive" and the surrounding areas, exploring various prostitution areas.
Li Jing successfully sneaked into the "Hongxiu Pavilion". In this brothel, she changed into a dancer's outfit, showing off her appearance and figure to the fullest.
Every night, as the music began, Li Jing danced across the stage like a lithe butterfly. Her graceful movements, flowing like clouds and water, captivated the audience. Yet, even as she sang her heart out, Li Jing never forgot her mission. She skillfully employed her dance moves, subtly perking up her ears and carefully listening to the guests' gossip, never missing a single clue that might connect to the "Beehive" and the Black Wind Demon.
Meanwhile, Zhao Yan also arrived at Zui Xiang Lou. She had transformed herself into a considerate and considerate barmaid. Dressed in an elegant cheongsam and with a sweet smile, Zhao Yan gently moved between the tables, pouring wine for the guests.
She chatted and laughed with the guests, speaking to them in gentle tones, skillfully guiding the conversation, trying to extract clues from them about the "beehive" and the Black Wind Demon. Under her attentive hospitality, the guests gradually let down their guard and began to speak freely.
Sun Mei, having already gathered intelligence, infiltrated the "Yanchunfang" (Yanchunfang) disguised as a prostitute. She was extremely cautious and tactful, interacting with all sorts of people. Her cleverness and understanding allowed her to navigate the crowd with ease.
She skillfully maneuvered among the crowd, not missing out on any useful information. Whether it was clients, prostitutes, or other personnel, Sun Mei was able to establish connections with them and obtain clues about the "Beehive" and the Black Wind Demon from their mouths.
Wang Fang went to the Cuiyuxuan, disguised as a skilled courtesan. Sitting in a private room, she played the zither, attracting numerous scholars and poets to join her in the pursuit of elegance. While engaging in poetry with them, she explored the secrets of the "beehive."
Liu Min came to Caiyun Pavilion and became a charming maid. She worked diligently in the pavilion, eavesdropping on her masters' conversations while cleaning and serving tea and water.
Zhou Qian infiltrates the "Purple Smoke Tower," posing as a mysterious courtesan-like fortune teller. She captivates curious guests with cryptic words, and while she's reading their fortunes, she inquires about the "Beehive" in subtle ways. The Falcon Squad, each utilizing their own strengths, quietly investigates this dark region.
Information trickled down to Lin Wei's hands, but most of it was fragmented and full of contradictions and legends.
"Captain, the Beehive is even more chaotic than we thought," said Li Jing, a team member skilled in infiltration and reconnaissance. "There are no clearly defined street names, and the houses are low and dilapidated, crammed together like a beehive. That's why it's called the Beehive. Gangs abound, and small-time leaders are countless, constantly fighting for territory and profits. Outsiders entering could easily be mistaken for fat sheep or spies."
"I got some information from an old beggar who frequents the edge of the Beehive," added Zhao Yan, another team member. She's a fiery person with a knack for socializing with all kinds of people. "He said things have been going awry lately in the depths of the Beehive, near the abandoned slaughterhouse. Some people say they've heard strange roars, others see dark shadows flash by, like... like some kind of monster. Several 'nightwalkers' (thugs and thieves who hang out there at night) have vanished, leaving no trace of either body or body."
Abandoned slaughterhouse. This location vaguely matched the vague information Sun Mei had received earlier about "the place where relatives dared not approach."
Lin Wei's frown deepened. The missing thugs, the strange roars, the dark shadows, the abandoned slaughterhouse… these clues, taken together, pointed to a disturbing possibility: the Black Wind Demon was likely hiding there, using the remains of the slaughterhouse as a base, perhaps even practicing some kind of sinister cultivation that required human sacrifice.
"What about the casualties?" Lin Wei asked Sun Mei, who was in charge of contact with doctors and the injured.
Sun Mei's face was pale. "Among the trauma patients brought in recently, several are thugs who escaped from the 'Beehive.' They can't even tell who their enemies are. All they know is that they're fast, powerful, and brutal. Their wounds... they look like they were torn by some kind of claw, and they're healing very slowly, leaving behind a foul, black aura. The doctor said that those wounds are filled with strong evil spirits, and ordinary wound medicines are of little use."
All the information fragments pointed to the same target - the Black Wind Demon. Not only was he alive, but he had likely recovered some of his strength and even become more strange and dangerous due to his evil cultivation.
"We can't wait any longer," Lin Wei said firmly, a flicker of determination in her eyes. "The situation at the 'Beehive' is complicated. The longer we delay, the stronger the old demon may become, the more people may disappear, and the harder it will be to find his exact location. Furthermore, if he realizes we're investigating him, he'll likely move immediately or launch an attack prematurely."
She looked at her teammates, these sisters who had fought alongside her for years. None of them showed a trace of fear, only determination and composure. The Falcon Squad was one of the few all-female special operations teams in Black Wind City. Though small, only seven members, each was a top-notch elite, well-coordinated and experienced. They weren't the regular Black Wind Army, but they were often incredibly effective in handling difficult missions requiring stealth and precision.
"Target: Abandoned Slaughterhouse. Mission: Confirm whether the Black Wind Demon is here and eliminate him." Lin Wei tapped heavily on the makeshift map. "The interior of the 'Beehive' is complex. Mobilizing the Black Wind Army en masse will only alert the enemy and may even cause greater chaos and casualties. We, the Falcon Squad, will act alone."
"Yes!" The team members responded in unison, their voices were not loud, but full of power.
"Here's the plan," Lin Wei began. "Li Jing, you'll infiltrate again, getting as close to the abandoned slaughterhouse as possible. Draw a detailed map, marking guards, traps, and possible entrances and exits. Zhao Yan, prepare some 'passes' commonly used within the 'beehive'—these are the markings of those small gangs. We'll try our best to disguise ourselves and infiltrate, and not reveal our identities unless absolutely necessary. Sun Mei, you'll be responsible for preparing the specially made evil-breaking potions and antidotes. The old demon practices evil skills, so he must be adept at using poison and curses. Wang Fang, Liu Min, Zhou Qian, check the weapons and equipment. We'll primarily use crossbows and short blades. We'll try to remain silent, suppressing from a distance and launching surprise attacks in close combat."
She paused, her gaze sweeping over each team member. "The Beehive's environment is harsh, the enemy cunning, and this operation is extremely risky. Remember, we're a team, we need to protect each other. If you notice something's wrong, retreat immediately and don't fight. Our target is the Black Wind Demon, not those gangs."
"understand!"
The inky darkness provided the perfect cover for the Falcon Squad's operations. Seven nimble figures, like cheetahs in the night, silently slid into the edge of the "beehive." The air was filled with the pungent odor of garbage, sewage, and low-quality alcohol. Sewage flowed through the narrow alley, flanked by ramshackle shacks. Countless vigilant and greedy eyes flickered in the darkness.
They changed into the shabby clothes they had prepared long ago and smeared some dust on their faces, trying their best to look like the common marginalized people in the "Beehive." The gang symbols Zhao Yan had distributed were cleverly hidden on their sleeves or waists, props they used to "prove their identity" or confuse others when necessary.
Li Jing had already set off, disappearing into the deeper alleys like a shadow blending into the darkness. Lin Wei led the other five people, following the general route they had gathered, carefully moving deeper into the "beehive," toward the abandoned slaughterhouse.
Along the way, they encountered drunken gang members, prostitutes who cast malicious glances at them, and beggars huddled and shivering in corners. Lin Wei and the others kept their eyes fixed on the road, their steps steady, and occasionally answered questions with a few words of the "Beehive" jargon. Relying on their exceptional mental fortitude and the "props" prepared by Zhao Yan, they safely navigated through one chaotic neighborhood after another.
The deeper they went, the more dilapidated the environment became, and the faint stench of decay in the air grew stronger. The streets became increasingly deserted, but the aura of lurking danger grew heavier, as if some enormous creature slumbered in the darkness, its breath treading with every step they took.
"Captain, Li Jing has sent a signal," Sun Mei, in charge of communications, reported in a low voice. She held a small transmitter in her hand, and a faint light flickered three times. This was the agreed-upon signal, indicating that she had arrived near the target area, detected an anomaly, and needed support.
Lin Wei's heart tightened, and she made a gesture. The team immediately sped up and became more vigilant.
After passing through the last garbage-filled alley, a relatively empty space suddenly appeared ahead. In the center stood a massive, dilapidated building—the abandoned slaughterhouse. Like a monster crawling in the darkness, it exuded a sickening stench of blood and decay. The walls had collapsed in places, revealing dark windows that resembled the monster's empty eye sockets.
Li Jing's figure flashed out from behind a pile of abandoned wooden boxes and made a hidden gesture to them.
Lin Wei and others approached quickly.
"Captain, something's wrong." Li Jing's voice was extremely low, with a barely perceptible tremor. "It's so quiet around the slaughterhouse, not even a guard. But I can sense... something inside, a strong evil aura, and... many eyes staring at us."
Lin Wei's heart sank. It was too quiet; that in itself was a major flaw! The Black Wind Demon was so cunning, there was no way he wouldn't have set up guards. Unless... he'd already discovered them and set a trap, a trap to lure them in!
"Retreat!" Lin Wei made a prompt decision. She realized that they might have fallen into the other party's trap.
However, it's too late.
Just as Lin Wei finished her words, a creepy low laugh, like the howl of a night owl, came from the depths of the abandoned slaughterhouse and echoed in the empty space.
"Hehehe... We've been waiting for you for a long time, the ladies of the Falcon Squad. Now that you're here, why rush to leave?"
The voice was hoarse and piercing, full of mockery and cruelty. It was none other than the Black Wind Demon!
As the laughter faded, the shabby door of the slaughterhouse creaked open, and a thick, inky black gas gushed out, carrying a strong stench and the scent of death. At the same time, dozens of dark figures suddenly shot out from the surrounding shadows, from alleyways, rooftops, and behind ruins!
These shadowy figures moved with incredible speed, their movements stiff and eerie, their eyes flashing an inhuman red light, and they emitted low, hoarse growls. Most of them wore tattered clothing, their bodies emaciated or bloated. They were none other than the thugs and wanderers who had disappeared from the "Beehive"! They had been controlled by the Black Wind Demon's evil magic, transformed into mindless, murderous, living puppets!
