Chapter 355: Lucia's Female Soldier Campaign 2 (Vionna's Tragedy)
As a four-star paladin, Viona knew that attacking a city required more than cavalry alone; siege equipment and other supplies were also needed. Ideally, infantry would be the primary force, with cavalry supporting the attack. So, she offered her advice to Lucia. However, the young Lucia lacked Vera's comprehensive military acumen, and because the inherited power she had activated previously was tainted with evil, she ignored Viona's advice. Instead, she assigned some of the male logistics troops to provide her with siege equipment and other supplies, and instructed her to arrange for twenty female soldiers to scale the city walls, while another thirty, assisted by the logistics troops, would attack the gates. Knowing that military orders were unbreakable, Viona obliged, taking her fifty-man female soldiers and the logistics troops with her. Lucia, of course, followed suit, leading the other generals. However, with a force of twelve hundred men and a large convoy of logistics vehicles carrying supplies, their progress was slow, and they soon fell nearly two days' distance behind Viona's vanguard.
Viona, leading a 50-man female soldier unit and a logistics unit, arrived at the city under attack. Gazing at the towering walls and tightly closed gates, she worried about the shortcomings of her battle plan, but she resolutely prepared for battle, following military orders.
The siege began. Twenty female soldiers, strapped to their backs and wielding short blades, swiftly charged the city walls. Their figures appeared resolute and determined in the morning light. Viona, mounted on a warhorse, longsword in hand, cried out, "Sisters, for glory, advance!" Thirty female soldiers, aided by support troops, carried heavy battering rams and charged towards the city gates.
However, the enemy was well prepared. From the city walls, huge boulders rolled down like thunder, accompanied by a barrage of arrows, hurling themselves at the attacking female soldiers. For a moment, screams rang out, and the attacking troops fell into chaos.
A rolling stone hit the female soldiers who were climbing the city wall. Seeing this, Viona did not hesitate to spur her horse to a gallop, rushing towards the danger area. She jumped high and swung her sword to try to block the stone, but the force of the stone was too strong, and she fell to the ground, her arm bleeding.
"Don't stop, keep attacking!" Viona gritted her teeth, enduring the excruciating pain in her body, and struggled to get up from the ground again. Her voice was a little hoarse due to the injury, but it was still full of strength and determination.
However, the enemy's attack did not weaken because of Viona's cry, but became more fierce. Another wave of dense arrows rained down on them. Viona was unable to dodge, and several sharp arrows hit her body like poisonous snakes.
Her body trembled violently, as if struck by a powerful force. Blood gushed from the wound, staining her clothes red. But Viona did not fall. She staggered a few times, seemingly on the verge of collapse. However, with amazing perseverance and tenacity, she managed to steady herself, still standing stubbornly on the battlefield.
Meanwhile, the female soldiers climbing the city walls also encountered immense difficulties. Enemy archers mercilessly fired at them, and several women had already been struck by arrows and fallen from the walls, hitting the ground with heart-pounding crashes. Their blood splattered the ground, creating a gruesome scene.
The female soldiers attacking the city gates also faced immense pressure. Huge boulders, each weighing hundreds of pounds, continuously fell from above. If they were hit, the consequences would be disastrous. Despite their desperate efforts to push open the gates, the onslaught of boulders resulted in increasingly heavy casualties.
Seeing this tragic scene, the men in the logistics unit became somewhat timid and began to retreat unconsciously. Seeing this, Viona's anger instantly ignited. Her eyes widened and she roared at the retreating men, "Those who retreat will die!"
This roar reverberated like thunder across the battlefield, shocking everyone. Viona, exhausting her last ounce of strength, rushed towards the city gate, her figure a strikingly tragic figure amidst the bloody storm. She wanted to use her actions to tell everyone: never retreat, never give up!
But then another wave of enemy attacks followed. A massive boulder roared down at Viona like a meteorite, carrying an unparalleled force. Viona's eyes widened as she tried to dodge, but it was too late. The boulder struck her hard, with a dull thud.
A stream of blood gushed from Viona's mouth, and like a blooming red lotus, she slowly collapsed. Her face turned as pale as paper, and her body trembled, as if all the vitality had been drained away. However, fate showed no mercy to this resolute female commander. A long crossbow arrow shot like lightning straight at Viona's throat.
Viona, struck by a rolling stone, was still trembling and twitching violently, oblivious to the piercing sound of the bolt piercing the air. The crossbow bolt mercilessly pierced her throat, and instantly, blood gushed out like a fountain. Viona let out a shrill scream that seemed to rend the very air. Her eyes, wide with resentment and despair, stared intently at the female soldiers still fighting bravely, their concern burning like a flame.
As she spat out the black blood, the last sound she wanted to utter was blocked by the blood in her throat. A gurgling sound came from her throat, as if she was fighting death. After she spat out another mouthful of black blood, her eyes widened even more, as if she wanted to imprint everything she saw on her mind.
A warm liquid flowed between her legs, the final trace of her life. Her legs twitched violently twice, and Viona's body finally stopped moving, like a shell without a soul. The bright red blood spurting from her neck and the liquid flowing between her legs intertwined to form a tragic and majestic scene, witnessing Viona's tragic end.
"Lady Viona!" the female soldiers cried out in grief. Tears welled in their eyes, yet they refused to give up their attack. However, under the fierce enemy firepower, more female soldiers fell seriously injured, leaving the battlefield in a state of despair.
Beneath this city, Viona demonstrated loyalty and bravery with her own life. However, this siege, which was already full of difficulties, fell into an even more desperate situation with her death. In the distance, Lucia's slowly advancing army was unaware of the tragedy that was unfolding ahead.
