Traveling through thousands of years, I only love you
Chapter 95: Failure to Return
Li Lingyuan jolted awake from her trance, only to be greeted by the familiar ceiling of her modern bedroom. She sat there for a moment, stunned, finally convinced she had returned to the present. Looking around, everything remained the same, yet her heart was lost in the ancient past, lost beside Xiao Yi.
She quickly stood up and searched the room, hoping to find any clues related to the time travel. However, apart from a few old ornaments that were once worn in ancient times, there was nothing else. Li Lingyuan clutched the ornaments tightly, tears welling up in her eyes, her heart filled with longing and worry for Xiao Yi.
"Xiao Yi, you must be looking for me anxiously. I must go back." She murmured to herself, with determination in her eyes.
Li Lingyuan knew modern science might offer some help. She began frantically searching the internet for theories, experiments, and cases related to time travel. For countless days and nights, she immersed herself in a vast amount of information, from Einstein's theory of relativity to reports of mysterious paranormal phenomena, searching for every possible clue. She compiled her notes, contacted experts and scholars in related fields, and even braved the skepticism of others by sharing her own experiences, seeking their insights and support. However, the responses she received were mostly skeptical and dismissive. Only a few expressed interest, but they were unable to offer any advice.
"Is there really no way out?" Li Lingyuan sighed in despair as she looked at the mountain of information. But she quickly cheered up and decided to try some ancient legends and mystical methods.
She visited ancient temples and Taoist temples, seeking guidance from the clergy. In an ancient monastery deep in the mountains, an old monk, after hearing her story, clasped his hands together and chanted a Buddhist mantra: "Donor, everything in time and space has its destiny. If you wish to defy fate, you will have to endure numerous trials, and success may not be certain." He then handed her an ancient scripture and said, "This scripture may help you calm your mind. If you are destined, you may even discover the method of time travel."
Li Lingyuan, overjoyed, returned home and devoted herself to studying the scriptures day and night. The esoteric texts and profound philosophical principles stumped her, yet she persevered. She also followed the book's instructions, practicing meditation, fasting, and other spiritual practices. However, as the days passed, she felt no signs of a transmigration, and her body grew weaker from overwork and dieting.
"Perhaps I'm not sincere enough." Li Lingyuan refused to give up. She had heard that a mysterious ancient relic might hold the secrets of time and space. Despite the long journey and the many obstacles, she resolutely embarked on the journey.
The ruins lay deep in an uninhabited desert, a harsh environment rife with windswept sand. Li Lingyuan, carrying a heavy bag, struggled to make her way across the scorching sand. A sandstorm nearly buried her. Water shortages left her thirsty, her lips chapped and bleeding. The cold nights left her shivering and unable to sleep. But the thought of Xiao Yi stirred a surge of strength within her, sustaining her onward.
Finally, she arrived at the ruins. It was a dilapidated, ancient building, emanating a mysterious atmosphere. Li Lingyuan carefully explored the ruins and discovered some strange symbols and patterns. She excitedly took photos and documented them, then searched various sources to try to decipher them. However, the symbols seemed to come from another world, and she remained elusive.
After trying various occult methods without success, Li Lingyuan turned her attention to folklore. She heard that in a remote mountain village, there was a mysterious ancient well. Legend has it that on full-moon nights, those destined to travel through time and space could use the well. So, on a full-moon night, she rushed to the village.
The mountain village was quiet and peaceful, and the villagers were curious yet wary of her arrival. Li Lingyuan explained her purpose to the village chief, who, though he found it absurd, led her to the ancient well. The well was deep and dark, and a chill emanated from the wellhead. Li Lingyuan took a deep breath and, following the legendary method, closed her eyes under the full moon's light, silently prayed, and then slowly stepped into the well.
However, she only felt the icy cold of the well water, and did not experience the time travel she had been told. When the villagers pulled her out of the well, she was soaking wet, in a state of disarray, and filled with loss and despair.
Returning home, Li Lingyuan was exhausted, both physically and mentally. She looked at her haggard self in the mirror, tears streaming down her face. She began to doubt whether she could ever truly return to ancient times and be with Xiao Yi. But every time she felt like giving up, Xiao Yi's smile and the memories they had shared would resurface in her mind, rekindling her hope.
She recalled some astronomical phenomena she and Xiao Yi had studied together in ancient times. It was said that certain special astronomical arrangements could affect time and space. So, she began to study astronomy, purchased a professional astronomical telescope, and observed the starry sky every night, recording the changes in the stars, trying to find the legendary special astronomical arrangement.
However, months passed without her noticing anything unusual. During one observation session, she collapsed next to the telescope due to exhaustion and stress. When she woke up, she found herself lying in a hospital bed, her parents watching over her with worried eyes.
"Lingyuan, what's wrong with you? Why are you torturing yourself like this?" asked the mother with concern.
Li Lingyuan looked at her parents, feeling a pang of guilt. She knew her actions had worried them, but she couldn't give up the thought of returning to Xiao Yi. "Mom, I'm fine. I'm just searching for something, something very important to me," she comforted her parents.
After being discharged from the hospital, Li Lingyuan continued her exploration. She tried hypnosis, hoping to find clues or a trigger for time travel. Under the hypnotist's guidance, her thoughts drifted back to ancient times, to her time with Xiao Yi. She saw them fighting side by side on the battlefield and their sweet life at court. However, when she tried to find a way to travel back in time through hypnosis, she was constantly blocked by an invisible force.
Failure after failure filled Li Lingyuan's heart with pain and struggle. But her love and longing, like a strong rope, always tied her heart tightly, preventing her from giving up. She knew that as long as she was still alive, she would not stop looking for a way to return to Xiao Yi. Even if this hope was as small as a drop in the ocean, she would devote all her energy to it.
