Traveling through thousands of years, I only love you
Chapter 79 Difficult Exile
Li Lingyuan stood atop the city wall, gazing at the incoming enemy forces like a tide, her heart filled with despair. She remained tall and straight in her armor, but her delicate features betrayed fatigue and haggardness. The wind whistled past her ears, as if lamenting the impending fall of the city.
The flames of battle raged, the cries of battle deafening. Li Lingyuan's troops fought hard, but were ultimately outnumbered. The enemy's assault intensified, like a surging wave, repeatedly crashing over the crumbling defenses. Soldiers on the city walls fell one after another, their blood staining the masonry beneath their feet.
"Empress, the enemy is too strong, we can't hold on!" The general next to her had blood on his face and his voice was filled with tears.
Li Lingyuan bit her lower lip until blood oozed from it. She knew the situation was hopeless. The longsword in her hand drooped limply. The sword that had once wielded so effortlessly on the battlefield, fighting for Xiao Yi, now felt as if it weighed a thousand pounds.
"Pass the order down and prepare to break out." Li Lingyuan's voice was resolute, although his heart was full of sadness.
As night fell, Li Lingyuan and his remaining troops began their escape. They dared not take the main road, and could only trudge along the rugged mountain trails. All around them was pitch black, with only the moonlight filtering through the branches, casting mottled shadows like a layer of cold, silver frost on the ground.
The mountain path was steep and difficult to navigate, and the soldiers were all seriously wounded and exhausted. Every step seemed to exhaust all their strength. Li Lingyuan walked in the middle of the team, her cloth shoes already scratched by the rocks, her feet covered in blood. But she showed no sign of stopping, with only one belief in her mind: survive and return to Xiao Yi.
The biting cold wind sent a shiver through Li Lingyuan. She remembered Xiao Yi's warm embrace, her only comfort in this cold and chaotic world. Once, they strolled through the palace gardens, Xiao Yi gently draping his cloak over her, holding her in his arms, whispering tender words of love in her ear. But now, she was alone in this desolate wilderness, fleeing, her life uncertain.
"Your Majesty, where are you? Lingyuan misses you so much..." Li Lingyuan called silently in his heart.
Suddenly, a commotion erupted from the front. Startled, Li Lingyuan quickly signaled the soldiers to halt. Cautiously, she moved forward and saw a small enemy unit patrolling ahead.
"What should we do?" the general asked in a low voice.
Li Lingyuan gripped the sword tightly in his hand, his eyes determined: "Charge forward, we can't just sit there and wait for death."
With that, she charged forward. The soldiers followed, shouting. For a moment, swords clashed, sparks of fire flew everywhere. Li Lingyuan wielded her sword, the longing and grief in her heart transforming into boundless power. Her swordsmanship was fierce, and each strike carried the determination to kill.
In the fierce battle, Li Lingyuan's arm was scratched by the enemy's sword, but she seemed to feel no pain. In her mind, there was only the figure of Xiao Yi and the desire to return to him.
Finally, they repelled the enemy squad, but they also suffered heavy losses. Li Lingyuan looked at the exhausted and wounded soldiers in front of him, tears welling up in his eyes.
"My queen, you are injured. Please bandage it first." A soldier handed over a piece of cloth.
Li Lingyuan shook his head: "Keep going, don't stop."
They dragged their heavy feet, continuing to move forward in the darkness. Hunger, cold, and pain were always with them, but Li Lingyuan's faith never wavered. She knew that as long as she breathed, she would return to Xiao Yi, even if it meant crossing thousands of mountains and rivers, even if it meant going through countless hardships.
After walking for an unknown amount of time, the sky gradually turned pale. Li Lingyuan looked into the distance and prayed silently in his heart: "Your Majesty, you must wait for me..."
As the sky grew brighter, their situation became increasingly dangerous. To avoid being caught by the enemy, they had no choice but to hide in the dense woods. The woods were filled with thick fog, and the damp air was suffocating.
Li Lingyuan leaned against a tree and closed her eyes tiredly. Her body was extremely weak, but as long as she thought of Xiao Yi, she had the strength to hold on.
"My lady, please drink some water." A soldier handed her a worn-out kettle.
Li Lingyuan took the kettle and took a sip. The cold water flowing down her throat made her feel much more sober.
"Everyone should take a break, but be vigilant at all times," said Li Lingyuan.
Soldiers collapsed to the ground one after another, exhausted after fighting for days and nights. Li Lingyuan looked at them, her heart filled with guilt. These soldiers had fought for her, to protect her and never leave her.
"When I return to His Majesty, I will definitely reward you well." Li Lingyuan said softly.
After a brief rest in the woods, they resumed their escape. Li Lingyuan's steps grew heavier, but her gaze remained resolute. She knew the road ahead was long and filled with unknown dangers, but she was no longer afraid. Because, in her heart, someone was waiting for her: her beloved, Xiao Yi, whom she would accompany through millennia.
As they walked, they came to a river. The water was rushing and freezing cold. Li Lingyuan looked at the water and felt troubled.
"Empress, this river is not easy to cross." The general said with a frown.
Li Lingyuan pondered for a moment and said, "Let's find some branches, make a raft, and cross the river."
The soldiers immediately sprang into action, searching for branches. Li Lingyuan joined in, ignoring the wound on her hand as she broke the branches.
After some effort, they finally made a simple raft. Li Lingyuan was the first to board the raft, followed by the soldiers.
The raft moved slowly along the river, swaying with the current. Suddenly, a wave hit, nearly capsizing it. Li Lingyuan clung to the edge of the raft, a wave of fear welling up inside him.
"Everyone hold on!" she shouted.
The soldiers worked together to control the raft. During the thrilling river crossing, Li Lingyuan kept thinking of Xiao Yi. She seemed to see Xiao Yi standing on the other side of the river, reaching out to her with a gentle smile on his face.
"Your Majesty, I'm here..." Li Lingyuan murmured to himself.
Finally, the raft reached the shore. Li Lingyuan and the soldiers dragged their exhausted bodies ashore. They were already in a state of disarray, but a glimmer of hope shone in their eyes.
Continuing forward, they entered a valley. The sound of wind echoed through the valley, as if countless wronged souls were crying. Li Lingyuan felt an ominous premonition, but she did not retreat.
As they walked, they discovered that the road ahead was blocked by a huge fallen rock. Li Lingyuan looked up and saw that the rocks on the mountain were loose and more rocks could fall at any time.
"Go around it." Li Lingyuan said.
They moved forward cautiously along the cliff face. There was a deep abyss beneath their feet, and the slightest mistake would have crushed them to pieces. Li Lingyuan's heart was in her throat. She clung to the cliff face, moving slowly step by step.
Just as they were about to bypass the rockfall, a rumbling sound suddenly came from the mountain. Li Lingyuan looked up and saw a huge rock rolling down towards them.
"Get out of the way!" she shouted, pushing a soldier next to her away.
The rock rolled past her and hit the ground, sending up a cloud of dust. Li Lingyuan was knocked to the ground, a sharp pain shooting through her arm. She struggled to her feet and discovered her arm was dislocated.
"My queen, how are you?" The soldiers gathered around.
Li Lingyuan gritted his teeth and said, "Don't worry about me, just keep going."
The general stepped forward and gently reattached her dislocated arm. Li Lingyuan turned pale with pain, but she didn't utter a single groan.
After a lot of trouble, they finally walked out of the valley. Li Lingyuan was extremely weak at this time, but she still had only one belief in her heart: to return to Xiao Yi.
They were walking through a wilderness when a sudden downpour began. The rain poured down, drenching them instantly. Li Lingyuan shivered in the rain, but she didn't stop.
"Empress, please find a place to shelter from the rain." The soldiers pleaded.
Li Lingyuan shook his head: "We can't stop. If we stop, the enemy might catch up with us."
They struggled forward in the rain, the cold rain running down their cheeks and blurring their vision. Li Lingyuan's body was getting colder and colder, but a blazing fire was burning in her heart.
"Your Majesty, you are my motivation to live. I must return to you..." Li Lingyuan said silently in his heart.
After walking for a long time in the rain, they finally saw an abandoned village. Li Lingyuan led the soldiers into the village, hoping to find some food and clothes.
The village was completely silent, and most of the houses were dilapidated. Li Lingyuan and his soldiers searched everywhere and finally found some dry food and a few worn-out clothes in a house.
They wolfed down their dry food and changed into dry clothes, which, though worn out, gave them a sense of warmth.
"Let's rest here for one night and continue our journey tomorrow," said Li Lingyuan.
The soldiers all found places to lie down, and soon bursts of snoring could be heard. Li Lingyuan sat in a corner, looking out the window at the rain, her mind racing. She recalled every moment she had spent with Xiao Yi, and those beautiful memories were like a beacon on this rainy night, illuminating the darkness in her heart.
"Your Majesty, do you know how hard it is for me to escape? But as long as I think of you, all the pain becomes worth it..." Li Lingyuan confided silently in his heart.
The rain gradually stopped, and a faint rainbow appeared in the sky. Li Lingyuan looked at the rainbow, and hope surged in her heart. She knew that as long as she persevered, she would be able to return to Xiao Yi and embrace him again.
The next morning, Li Lingyuan and her soldiers left the village. They continued their escape, heading towards Xiao Yi. Although the road ahead was still filled with unknown dangers, Li Lingyuan's heart was filled with unwavering faith. Because she and Xiao Yi had a love that spanned thousands of years, this love was enough to help her overcome all difficulties.
