Traveling through thousands of years, I only love you
Chapter 64 Similar to Her
In a hospital ward thick with the scent of disinfectant, Xiao Yi lay quietly on his bed, his face as pale as paper, his body utterly weakened by the backlash of his failed time travel. Various medical instruments hummed rhythmically around him, monitoring his fragile vital signs. Liquid from an IV drip flowed slowly into his veins, as if modern medicine were striving to save his wounded soul.
The doctor solemnly advised him to stay in bed and undergo a series of rehabilitation treatments, lest he develop an incurable underlying condition. Xiao Yi felt helpless and bitter, his mind still trapped in that distant past. Every moment he had spent with Li Lingyuan replayed in his mind like a movie. He longed to rise immediately and continue searching for a way to travel back, but his body felt like a shell, drained of strength, unable to move.
Days passed, Xiao Yi's life in the hospital monotonous and tedious. Until one day, the door to the ward gently opened, and a medical worker named Li Wenjia walked in. She was dressed in a neat white nurse's uniform, and her steps were light and steady. When Xiao Yi's eyes fell on her face, his heart suddenly struck. Her delicate features, the charm between her eyebrows, bore a resemblance to Li Lingyuan's. Especially the way her brows furrowed slightly when she was concentrating on something, mirrored the look Li Lingyuan wore when he was contemplating a problem.
Li Wenjia walked over to Xiao Yi's bedside, checked the data on the instrument, and spoke in a gentle, concerned voice: "Mr. Xiao, how are you feeling today? Are you feeling unwell?" Xiao Yi was momentarily dazed, as if he could hear Li Lingyuan whispering in his ear. It took him a moment to come back to his senses and gently shook his head: "I'm fine, thank you."
From then on, Li Wenjia took on Xiao Yi's daily care. Every time she visited the ward, Xiao Yi would involuntarily stare at her a few more times. Li Wenjia noticed Xiao Yi's gaze, but she simply thought it was a normal patient's concern for the medical staff and continued to perform her duties diligently.
Once, Xiao Yi was lying in bed, flipping through an ancient book, trying to find clues about time travel. Li Wenjia came in for a ward check and, seeing his focused expression, asked curiously, "Mr. Xiao, what book are you reading? It looks ancient." Xiao Yi closed the book, smiled wryly, and said, "It's just an old book that I'm interested in, and I'm trying to find some comfort in it." Li Wenjia smiled and nodded, "Mr. Xiao, you should get more rest. You can do more things once you're well."
As time went on, the two began to interact more frequently. In their spare time, Li Wenjia would chat with Xiao Yi about interesting events in the hospital, and Xiao Yi would share his experiences in the entertainment industry, though he kept the secret of his time travel deep within his heart. Under Li Wenjia's meticulous care, Xiao Yi's health gradually improved.
One day, Li Wenjia pushed Xiao Yi to the hospital garden to bask in the sun. The garden was full of colorful flowers and green grass. The breeze blew, bringing bursts of floral fragrance. Xiao Yi closed his eyes, feeling the warmth of the sun and the gentle caress of the breeze, and the haze in his heart seemed to dissipate a little. Li Wenjia watched him quietly from the side, and suddenly said: "Mr. Xiao, do you know? Sometimes you look very sad, as if you have a lot of things hidden in your heart." Xiao Yi opened his eyes and looked at Li Wenjia, with a hint of complex emotions in his eyes: "Some things may not be believed by anyone if you tell them." Li Wenjia gently held Xiao Yi's hand: "If you are willing to talk, I am willing to listen." Xiao Yi's heart moved, and he hesitated to speak, but finally shook his head.
Although Xiao Yi knew that Li Wenjia was not the real Li Lingyuan, her presence alleviated his inner pain of missing her to a certain extent. During their time in the hospital, their relationship quietly changed, from initially being a doctor and patient to becoming more like friends, providing each other with companionship and comfort. In this brief period of peace, Xiao Yi also gathered strength and pondered the future path: should he continue his obsession with traveling back to ancient times, or try to find happiness and peace in this modern world?
During the time in the hospital, Xiao Yi and Li Wenjia spent more and more time together, and some interesting things happened like stars, embellishing Xiao Yi's slightly dull recuperation life.
One day, Li Wenjia came to bring medicine to Xiao Yi as usual. Xiao Yi was staring out the window in a daze. Li Wenjia coughed lightly to attract his attention, then said seriously, "Xiao, it's time to take your medicine. This is a magical potion that will restore your vitality." Xiao Yi was amused by her and raised an eyebrow and said, "Is this potion bitter? Is there any sweet reward?" Li Wenjia rolled her eyes and took out a small candy from her pocket. She shook it and said, "As long as you take the medicine obediently, this candy will be yours." Xiao Yi took the medicine with a wronged look, swallowed it in one gulp, and then stretched out his hand to ask for the candy like a child. Li Wenjia smiled and placed the candy in his palm, scolding him, "You really are like a little kid."
On another occasion, the hospital organized a small talent show for rehabilitation patients. Li Wenjia urged Xiao Yi to participate, but Xiao Yi hesitated and said that he didn't have any talents to show. Li Wenjia persisted: "You are a big star. You can stun the audience with any song you sing." Xiao Yi had no choice but to go on stage and sing a soothing song. During the performance, Li Wenjia was like a little fan in the audience, waving her arms to cheer him on and encouraging the people around to applaud and cheer. After the performance, Xiao Yi walked off the stage, and Li Wenjia praised with a smile on her face: "Xiao Yi, you are awesome! I knew you could do it." Xiao Yi looked at her excited look, and her heart was filled with warmth.
During rehabilitation training, Xiao Yi was always a bit lazy, so Li Wenjia would supervise him. Once, Xiao Yi said he was tired and wanted to rest for a while. Li Wenjia put her hands on her hips and said angrily, "If you don't train seriously, don't even think about getting out of the hospital soon. I'll be very strict with you." Xiao Yi said, "Then you train with me. I'll be motivated." Li Wenjia agreed without hesitation. She accompanied Xiao Yi on the rehabilitation equipment, teaching him some exercise tips as they went. Seeing her serious attitude, Xiao Yi unknowingly became more diligent.
Another time, Li Wenjia was on night duty, and Xiao Yi couldn't sleep. So the two of them started playing a riddle game. Li Wenjia offered a riddle: "A knife, floating on the water, with eyes but no eyebrows. (Guess an animal)" Xiao Yi pondered for a moment, then replied with a smile, "A fish, right?" Li Wenjia nodded in approval, and then it was Xiao Yi's turn to ask a question. And so, back and forth, the ward was filled with laughter, and Xiao Yi temporarily forgot his physical discomfort and his worries about time travel.
