Traveling through thousands of years, I only love you
Chapter 145 Escape
After Xiao Yi found Li Lingyuan in the small town with great anticipation and unwavering determination, he embarked on a series of passionate attempts to win her back. He brought Li Lingyuan to the city where they once lived together. Every morning, he would wake up early and meticulously prepare a hearty breakfast, placing Li Lingyuan's favorite dishes on the table. He would also place a beautiful rose next to the plate, along with a note filled with affectionate words, such as "Lingyuan, a new day! I hope you can smile because of this delicious food and my love."
During the day, he would push aside all unnecessary work arrangements to accompany Li Lingyuan on revisiting places they had visited before. As they strolled along the park paths they had once walked, Xiao Yi would point to a bench by the lake and say, "Lingyuan, do you remember? We once sat here for a long time, watching the fish frolicking in the lake, and you smiled so brightly." He would also take her to their usual coffee shop, order two cups of fragrant coffee, and, as always, carefully add sugar and stir it for her, his eyes always fixed on her tenderly.
He took Li Lingyuan to the city's tallest building, and standing on the observation deck, the breeze ruffling their hair. Xiao Yi gently embraced Li Lingyuan from behind and whispered in her ear, "Lingyuan, the beauty of this city is breathtaking, but in my eyes, it's nothing compared to yours. No matter what happens, I never want to let go of your hand." Li Lingyuan trembled slightly, her eyes a little hazy. She whispered, "Xiao Yi, can everything really go back to the way it was?"
Xiao Yi had also arranged a small, private concert, featuring Li Lingyuan's favorite classical music. He took her hand and led them into the musically charged venue, where they sat on a soft sofa. Xiao Yi looked intently at Li Lingyuan, trying to detect a hint of joy in her expression. "Lingyuan, this music is like our love, melodious and profound," he said. Li Lingyuan nodded slightly, a forced smile forming at the corner of her mouth, though it never reached her eyes.
Yet, Li Lingyuan's heart remained shrouded in a cloud of gloom. While she felt touched by everything Xiao Yi had done for her, the fear of public pressure she had once endured still lingered. Whenever Xiao Yi tried to discuss their future, she would look away and find excuses to avoid the subject.
Once, Xiao Yi meticulously planned a romantic dinner, a cozy candlelit setting on the beach, surrounded by flowers and balloons. When he brought Li Lingyuan there, she paled the moment she saw the scene. She recalled the uproar caused by paparazzi photos, and the malicious comments and attacks seemed to ring in her ears again.
"Xiao Yi, I... I feel a little uncomfortable and want to go back first." After Li Lingyuan finished speaking, he turned around and left in a hurry, leaving Xiao Yi standing there with a confused and lost look on his face.
Xiao Yi did not give up and continued to work hard. He signed Li Lingyuan up for a painting course that they had always been interested in, hoping that it would help her rediscover the joy of life. However, when the day of the class arrived, Li Lingyuan did not show up.
He bought Li Lingyuan many exquisite books and her favorite music albums and sent them to her residence, but Li Lingyuan just accepted them and rarely took the initiative to share her feelings after reading or listening to them with him.
At an art exhibition, Xiao Yi finally persuaded Li Lingyuan to join him. Xiao Yi enthusiastically explained the stories and artistic value behind each painting, but Li Lingyuan remained distracted. Suddenly, someone in the crowd seemed to recognize Xiao Yi and began whispering and looking at him strangely. Li Lingyuan, noticing this, felt a surge of panic.
"Xiao Yi, I really can't stand it anymore. I don't want to be noticed and talked about like this anymore." After Li Lingyuan finished speaking, he ignored Xiao Yi's attempt to stop him, squeezed out of the crowd, and disappeared from his sight.
Xiao Yi searched everywhere for her and called her, only to find her phone turned off. He arrived at her residence and knocked on the door for a long time, but there was no response from inside. Li Lingyuan chose to escape, hiding in a remote guesthouse, cutting off contact with the outside world and crying alone in her room. She felt as if she were trapped in an inescapable dilemma. Unable to let go of her love for Xiao Yi, and unable to face the terrifying pressure of public opinion, she could only choose to escape, hoping that time would dilute it all, but deep down, she knew that this love had already penetrated her bones and would not be easily forgotten.
Xiao Yi waited outside Li Lingyuan's residence for an agonizing night. The morning sun shone on his exhausted frame, his eyes filled with worry and determination. He decided to give Li Lingyuan some time and space, while also considering how to truly allay her fears. He contacted his public relations team, trying to develop a comprehensive plan to deal with any potential public opinion crises, hoping to create a relatively stable environment for their love.
Li Lingyuan, meanwhile, spent her days in tears in her guesthouse, gazing out the window at the unfamiliar scenery, her heart in a constant struggle. She recalled her encounter with Xiao Yi in ancient times, a time when they shared pure love, free from worldly pressures. Thinking back to her present-day experiences, she felt profoundly lost. She wondered if her escape was the right path, nor how to face Xiao Yi's passionate love and the invisible pressures of the outside world.
As the days passed, Xiao Yi conveyed his longing and resolve to Li Lingyuan in various ways. He would leave small gifts and letters outside the guesthouse, assuring her that he would wait for her, no matter how long it took. Li Lingyuan's emotions grew increasingly complex as she saw these messages. She began to realize that she couldn't escape like this forever, but she also feared that if she took that step, she would fall back into the abyss of pain. She paced back and forth in her room, her inner conflict like a surging tide, constantly battering her mind and emotions.
