Traveling Through Thousands of Years Just for You

Chapter 14: Quelling the Rebellion

Li Lingyuan and Xiao Yi stood at the front of the army, their spirited soldiers behind them. She gazed at the rebel-held palace in the distance. The once magnificent building now loomed eerie in the sunlight, like a monstrous beast with its maw gaping. A complex mix of emotions welled up in her: anger at the rebels, who had displaced countless people and torn their families apart; a touch of nervousness. This battle hinged on the fate of so many; a defeat would have disastrous consequences. But even more so, a resolve filled her. She knew she couldn't retreat. For the soldiers who trusted them, and for the justice and peace that this palace represented, she had to move forward.

"Soldiers!" Xiao Yi shouted loudly, his voice echoing in the wilderness. "Today we will take back the palace that belongs to us. Those rebels are trying to destroy our homes and hurt our loved ones. We will never tolerate this!"

The soldiers roared in unison, their cheers resounding through the air. Li Lingyuan, clad in armor, stood on her horse, a sight of heroic valiantness. Hearing the deafening shouts, her heartbeat quickened, her blood boiling. She gazed upon these loyal soldiers, her heart filled with emotion. She knew the journey had been arduous, but with these men, there was hope. Every soldier was a human being, with families awaiting their safe return. She and Xiao Yi must lead them to victory.

"Move!" With Xiao Yi's command, the army surged toward the palace like a surging tide. Horses' hooves kicked up dust, and swords gleamed coldly in the sunlight. By the time they reached the palace's perimeter, the rebels had already formed their battle formation.

The rebel leader stood in front of the battle, his eyes revealing a hint of disdain: "Xiao Yi, do you think you can still take back the palace? Sooner or later, this world will belong to me!"

Xiao Yi sneered: "You traitor, you have committed such a sin. Today is the day you die."

Before he could finish his words, Xiao Yi had already spurred his horse forward, his longsword thrust straight at the rebel leader. Not to be outdone, Li Lingyuan led a detachment of soldiers in a flank assault on the rebel camp. As she charged, countless images flashed through her mind: the joyous laughter of the palace, the terrified screams of the civilians as the rebels attacked. "I must put an end to this," she vowed silently.

Suddenly, shouts of killing and the clash of swords resounded through the air. Li Lingyuan charged into the enemy lines, the surrounding rebels swarming toward her like ghosts. Her heartbeat raced, but the sword in her hand remained unwavering. With every swing, she thought, "Every rebel defeated is one less threat to our peace." When several rebels attempted to attack her from behind, Li Lingyuan, as if possessed of vision, whirled around, her sword whirling, instantly dispatching them. She secretly congratulated herself on her diligent training, and felt relieved that she had been able to protect the soldiers around her.

The situation on the battlefield gradually tilted in their favor. Xiao Yi and Li Lingyuan's troops cooperated tacitly, constantly squeezing the rebels' space. But the rebels were unwilling to lose, and they began to organize more frantic resistance, even using some secret weapons - powerful catapults.

Huge rocks were hurled from the catapults, smashing down on Xiao Yi and his troops. The soldiers scrambled to avoid the impact, their positions momentarily in disarray. Li Lingyuan, seeing this, was terrified. "We can't let these catapults disrupt our plans, or everything will be over." She knew they had to be destroyed quickly, or their casualties would mount.

"Follow me!" Li Lingyuan shouted, leading a group of elite soldiers toward the catapults. They aimed to break through the rebel lines and strike the enemy's vital points. As they charged, a hail of arrows rained down. Li Lingyuan blocked the incoming fire with her shield, silently praying that her soldiers would not be injured. She knew it was a risk, but she had no other choice.

As they approached the catapult, the rebels were already well-positioned. Undaunted, Li Lingyuan charged into the enemy lines, engaging the rebels in close combat. Her gaze remained resolute, and she vowed to herself, "I must succeed, for everyone." Her swordsmanship grew increasingly fierce, each strike imbued with the determination to kill. Under her leadership, the soldiers fought bravely, gradually wiping out the rebels surrounding the catapult.

"Destroy the catapult!" Li Lingyuan shouted. Soldiers sprang into action, some severing the catapult's ropes with swords, others burning its vital parts. With a few loud explosions, the catapult was successfully destroyed, instantly easing the pressure on Xiao Yi's side.

Xiao Yi seized this opportunity and launched another fierce attack on the rebel leader. This time, he used his ultimate move, his sword skills like a torrential rain, attacking the rebel leader. Li Lingyuan watched Xiao Yi and the rebel leader fighting fiercely, her heart in her throat. "Xiao Yi, you must win," she silently said in her heart.

Finally, Xiao Yi stabbed the rebel leader in the chest with a sword. The rebel leader widened his eyes and could not believe until his death that he would be defeated by Xiao Yi.

With the death of their leader, the rebels' morale plummeted. Xiao Yi and Li Lingyuan seized the opportunity to lead their troops in a final charge, completely defeating the rebels. They broke through the palace gates and entered this once familiar, now devastated place.

The palace was in shambles, with traces of battle visible everywhere. Li Lingyuan felt a pang of pain as she looked at the devastated scene. This place held so many memories, yet now it was destroyed like this. But she knew now was not the time for sadness; they had to quickly stabilize the situation and restore order to the palace.

They began to arrange soldiers to clear the battlefield, treat the wounded, and search for those palace officials who had hidden during the war. In a corner, they found some ministers and palace maids who had been imprisoned by the rebels. When the ministers saw Xiao Yi and Li Lingyuan, their eyes were filled with excitement and relief.

"Your Highness, thank goodness for you!" An old minister's eyes were filled with tears.

Xiao Yi helped him up: "Sir, now that the rebellion has been quelled, we must work together to rebuild the palace."

Li Lingyuan was also comforting the palace maids. Looking at their frightened eyes, she thought to herself, "They are all innocent. We must make them feel safe again." These palace maids had been frightened a lot during the war, and when they saw Li Lingyuan, they seemed to see hope.

In the days that followed, Xiao Yi and Li Lingyuan were incredibly busy. They reorganized the palace guards, strengthened defenses, and prevented further rebellion. At the same time, they began to handle palace affairs, appease the people, and restore the economy.

Li Lingyuan harnessed her wisdom and proposed a series of reforms to help the people suffering during the war. She established shelters to provide shelter and food for the homeless; she also encouraged business development and reduced taxes, allowing the people to regain a stable life. Every time she saw smiles on the faces of the people, Li Lingyuan felt that all the hard work was worth it. "This is the meaning of my journey through thousands of years to come here," she often thought.

Xiao Yi was primarily responsible for maintaining political stability within the palace. He re-selected loyal and capable officials and established a fair and honest political system. He consulted with his ministers on state affairs and formulated long-term development strategies, bringing the palace back to life.

With their joint efforts, the palace gradually regained its former prosperity, and the people's lives became better and better. In the process, Xiao Yi and Li Lingyuan's feelings became deeper and deeper.

Every night, they would stroll in the palace garden, reviewing the hardships they had come so far. The moonlight shone on them, as if covering them with a layer of silver gauze.

"Lingyuan, if it weren't for you, I really don't know how I would have gotten through these difficulties." Xiao Yi looked at Li Lingyuan, his eyes full of love.

Li Lingyuan smiled: "Me too, Xiao Yi. We have been through so much together, and nothing can separate us from now on."

They embraced each other in the moonlight, as if they were the only two left in the world. After this war, they cherished each other even more, and they understood how hard peace was won. They would dedicate their lives to protecting this peaceful land they had won with their blood and sweat, to protecting their love and their country.

With the palace's reconstruction complete, Xiao Yi held a grand celebration. People came from far and wide to celebrate this special occasion. The palace was decorated with lanterns, and there was singing and dancing, creating a joyful and peaceful atmosphere.

Li Lingyuan stood beside Xiao Yi, watching the lively scene, her heart filled with happiness. "This is all worth it, we did it." She thought silently.
