Chapter 12: Reunion is like a dream, and the old relationship continues

Li Lingyuan, living in the modern world, was consumed by the pain of losing Xiao Yi every day. She often dreamed of returning to ancient times, to the days she and Xiao Yi spent in the valley. Each time she woke, she saw only an empty room, and the heartache nearly overwhelmed her. However, fate seemed not to have intended for them to part forever.

It was a stormy night. Li Lingyuan sat alone by the window, gazing out at the wind-ravaged world, her thoughts drifting away. Suddenly, a flash of lightning streaked across the night sky, followed by a roar of thunder. In that instant, the space around her began to distort, and Li Lingyuan felt a powerful force pulling her in. She subconsciously closed her eyes, and when she opened them again, she found herself in a familiar ancient world, surrounded by the mountain and forest scenery she had once known so well.

Li Lingyuan was shocked. She couldn't believe she was back here again. Her first reaction was to find Xiao Yi. She ran towards the valley in her memory. Along the way, she felt a mixture of anticipation and fear. She didn't know if Xiao Yi was still there, or if he would still accept her.

In the valley, Xiao Yi's soul, having sacrificed himself to save two worlds, has not dissipated. Moved by their love, the God of Time and Space offers him a chance to be reborn, but he must endure the pain of separation from Li Lingyuan until fate brings them together again. After his rebirth, Xiao Yi continues to live in their former cabin, staring blankly at the belongings left behind by Li Lingyuan. His heart is filled with longing and sadness, as if the most important part of his life has been lost.

That day, Xiao Yi was wandering the valley as usual when he suddenly felt an inexplicable throbbing in his heart. He raised his head and gazed into the distance, as if an invisible force was calling him. He involuntarily walked in that direction, feeling an indescribable anticipation welling up in his heart.

On a small forest path, Xiao Yi and Li Lingyuan met. The moment their eyes met, time seemed to freeze. Xiao Yi's eyes widened. He thought he was dreaming. He had seen Li Lingyuan return countless times in his dreams, but every time he woke up, it was empty. Li Lingyuan looked at Xiao Yi's thin face and the weariness in his eyes, and tears welled up in her eyes.

"Xiao Yi..." Li Lingyuan shouted in a trembling voice.

Xiao Yi finally came to his senses. He quickly walked towards Li Lingyuan and hugged her in his arms, as if he was afraid that this was just an illusory dream and that she would disappear again if he let go. "Lingyuan, is this really you? Am I dreaming again?" Xiao Yi's voice was choked with sobs.

Li Lingyuan hugged Xiao Yi tightly, "It's me, Xiao Yi, I'm back. I don't know what happened, but I'm really back."

The two hugged each other and cried. At that moment, they seemed to have forgotten all the pain and sadness of separation. After a long time, they gradually calmed down. Xiao Yi took Li Lingyuan back to the cabin. Along the way, the two had endless things to say, telling each other about the longing and pain after separation.

After returning to the cottage, Li Lingyuan found that everything in the house was exactly the same as when she left, except for some traces of Xiao Yi missing her. The paintings she had drawn hung on the wall, and her favorite flowers were placed on the table. These details made her heart full of emotion and guilt.

"Xiao Yi, I'm sorry. I shouldn't have disappeared suddenly and let you bear so much alone." Li Lingyuan looked at Xiao Yi and said.

Xiao Yi held her hand and said, "It's not your fault. It's fate. The important thing is that you're back now, and we'll never be separated again."

However, their peaceful life did not last long. News of Xiao Yi's rebirth somehow spread, and some forces within the palace began to stir again. They saw Xiao Yi's presence as a constant threat, especially those who had previously had conflicts with him. They feared that he would return to power and harm them.

One day, a group of palace guards arrived in the valley, demanding Xiao Yi return to the palace in the name of the emperor. Xiao Yi knew this was just an excuse; they wanted to keep him within the palace so they could monitor and suppress him. But he also understood that disobeying the emperor's orders could cause trouble for the people of the valley and Li Lingyuan.

"Lingyuan, I have to go to the palace. You wait here and I will be back as soon as possible." Xiao Yi said to Li Lingyuan.

Li Lingyuan looked at him worriedly, "Xiao Yi, I'll go with you. I'm worried about you."

Xiao Yi wanted to refuse, but seeing Li Lingyuan's determined eyes, he nodded. So they followed the palace guards back to the palace.

After returning to the palace, Xiao Yi found the atmosphere even more complex than he had imagined. The emperor's attitude towards him was also subtle, with a hint of relief and some caution. Meanwhile, the ministers were whispering behind his back, their eyes occasionally glancing at him and Li Lingyuan.

At a palace banquet, some ministers deliberately challenged Xiao Yi, asking difficult questions in an attempt to embarrass him. Xiao Yi deftly responded with his wisdom and eloquence, but Li Lingyuan sensed that the hostility lurking in the shadows hadn't vanished.

Just as the banquet was in progress, news broke that an assassin had appeared in the palace. Chaos ensued, and the guards searched for the assassin. Xiao Yi, realizing this might be a conspiracy against him, grasped Li Lingyuan's hand tightly, protecting her.

However, the assassins rushed towards them. Xiao Yi drew his sword and engaged the assassins, while Li Lingyuan cast spells to assist him. During the battle, they discovered that these assassins were very skilled and seemed to be well prepared.

After a fierce battle, they finally repelled the assassin. But Xiao Yi and Li Lingyuan were both injured, especially Xiao Yi, who was scratched on the back by the assassin in order to protect Li Lingyuan. Li Lingyuan was extremely anxious and bandaged Xiao Yi's wound regardless of her own injuries.

This assassination incident made Xiao Yi realize that the danger in the palace was more serious than he had imagined. He decided to find the mastermind as soon as possible to protect himself and Li Lingyuan, while also preventing the palace from falling into greater chaos.

In the days that followed, Xiao Yi and Li Lingyuan began to secretly investigate the assassination. Following clues left by the assassins, they discovered they were connected to a high-ranking official. This official, who coveted higher power, believed Xiao Yi was a stumbling block to his advancement, and so orchestrated the assassination.

Xiao Yi and Li Lingyuan decided to present this evidence to the emperor, who would then punish the minister. However, as they prepared to act, they discovered that the minister had already noticed their intentions. The minister began to falsely accuse Xiao Yi of being the mastermind behind the assassination, claiming he was intent on usurping the throne.

The emperor, believing the ministers' slander, became suspicious of Xiao Yi and ordered him to be detained pending further investigation. Li Lingyuan was extremely anxious, knowing that if Xiao Yi's innocence could not be proven quickly, his life might be in danger.

Li Lingyuan began searching for evidence that could prove Xiao Yi's innocence. She found some palace guards and maids who had witnessed the assassination and were willing to testify on Xiao Yi's behalf. She also found some written evidence that the minister was colluding with the assassin.

Li Lingyuan brought the evidence to the emperor and explained the truth. After careful investigation, the emperor found that he had been deceived by the minister. He ordered Xiao Yi to be released and the minister to be severely punished.

After this incident, Xiao Yi and Li Lingyuan's positions in the palace were consolidated. However, they also understood that the struggle within the palace would never end. They decided not to get involved in the power struggle within the palace and returned to live a peaceful life in the valley.

On the way back to the valley, Xiao Yi and Li Lingyuan were filled with emotion. They had experienced so much hardship and danger, but their love remained steadfast. They knew there might be more challenges ahead, but as long as they were together, nothing could defeat them.
