Chapter 4 The Grudge Between the Two Houses
According to the description in the book, Chen is a sarcastic and mean person with a kind face but a cruel heart.
She was forced by her parents to marry Han Hongyuan.
Han Hongyuan was handsome and elegant, and he was the only scholar in Fengxi Town. I don't know how many people envied Chen.
But there is as much envy as there is irony.
Chen was beautiful and ambitious. Han Hongyuan was a good-looking man, but he was sixteen years older than Chen, which made her very dissatisfied.
The envy and ridicule from everyone around him made Chen even more indignant.
When they got married, the Chen family asked for a huge amount of extra gifts, and the originally promised dowry was greatly reduced. Han Hongyuan was somewhat dissatisfied with Chen.
Unfortunately, Chen was also very cold towards Han Hongyuan, and the couple's relationship was not harmonious when they first got married.
At that time, Han Qingshan was already a twelve-year-old teenager, and he did not like his mother who was only three years older than him.
Therefore, when Chen first married into the Han family, life was not easy. It was not until Han Qingyun was two or three years old that Han Hongyuan discovered Han Qingyun's intelligence and she gained a firm foothold in the Han family.
Han Qingyun looks similar to Han Hongyuan, and has inherited his mother's fair skin and delicate face shape, making him very handsome.
He was smart and had a good academic record, which rekindled Han Hongyuan's thoughts about Han Qingshan's death.
Afterwards, Han Hongyuan focused on raising his youngest son and paid no attention to the entire family. Except for his youngest son's education, all other matters were left to Chen, and Chen thus took control of the entire Han family.
Han Qingshan was already sixteen years old at that time, but his father's long-term indifference made him timid and indecisive.
Seeing that her stepson was so easy to control, Chen intensified her oppression of Han Qingshan.
Later, Han Qingshan married his cousin Zhao He, who also had a weak personality.
The couple was completely controlled by Chen and worked wholeheartedly for the Han family. Later, they gave birth to several calves and horses.
The eldest brother, Han Dongchen, is as strong as Han Qingshan. He has been learning martial arts from his uncle Zhao Chun since he was a child, and his skills are very good.
The second son, Han Nanxing, was smart. Doctor Liu from the village thought that the boy had a talent for medicine and once proposed that Han Nanxing be his apprentice. However, Mrs. Chen refused on the grounds that there was no one to take care of the family's farmland.
The third child, Han Xigu, is very smart and has a talent for studying, but unfortunately he has a bit of a twisted personality.
Originally, if Han Xigu had shown his talent to his grandfather, perhaps the Han family's eldest branch would have been respected. Unfortunately, he only wanted to work hard in secret, waiting for a big splash in the future and making his grandfather regret it.
The fourth child, Han Beiwang, was more volatile than his brothers. He was the only one in the Han family's main branch who dared to resist the Chen family. Unfortunately, due to his young age, his every resistance was violently suppressed by the Chen family.
Han Mingzhu, the youngest daughter of the Han family's eldest wife, is the daughter that Han Qingshan and his wife have been waiting for for many years. Her four older brothers are much older than her, and the whole family loves her like the apple of their eye.
Han Mingzhu is only half a month older than Han Huaian and Han Huaixi, and is not yet five years old, but she is extremely well-behaved and sensible.
Even though Chen disliked the first wife very much, she never deliberately targeted this beautiful and sensible girl.
But Chen Li always felt something was not right about these things. She vaguely remembered that her original body did not have much contact with her stepson because the age difference between her and her stepson was not much.
Although the original body had selfish motives, he was not mean to his stepson and his wife at the beginning.
But she couldn't remember what happened in between that led to the two families becoming what they are now.
Unlike his elder brother Han Qingshan, Han Qingyun was raised by Han Lao Xiucai.
When Han Hongyuan was alive, Han Qingyun's life, apart from getting married and having children, was all about studying.
The old scholar had high hopes for him, and he did live up to his expectations. At the age of fifteen, he won the first place in the scholar exam and was even one of the top three. He was noticed by Lu Youtian, the richest man in Fengxi Town, and was betrothed to him as his daughter Lu Yanyan.
Lu Youtian has two children, the eldest is Lu Fugui and the second is Lu Yanyan.
Lu Yanyan is a famous beauty in Fengxi Town. Her parents always dote on their youngest child more, so she has been spoiled since she was a child.
When Lu Yanyan married Han Qingyun, she had a very generous dowry and also came with a maid.
Originally, Lu Youtian and his wife wanted to buy a few maids for Lu Yanyan, but they were worried that their son-in-law would take a concubine, so they did not include a maid as a dowry, but they did increase the dowry a little.
Han Qingyun is a somewhat pedantic and aloof person, ignorant of the ways of the world, indecisive and easily influenced.
Coupled with his strong mother and spoiled wife, Han Qingyun's scholarly spirit seemed a little weak.
He knew that his mother was not good to his eldest brother's family and that his nephew Han Xigu was very talented in studying.
He had privately advised his mother and even offered to pay his tuition so that Han Xigu could continue his studies, but all his suggestions were rejected by Chen.
After being scolded by his mother several times, Han Qingyun never dared to mention it again and could only turn a blind eye to the plight of his eldest brother's family.
"That's not right. Why does the content of this book feel different from what I remember?" Han Qingyun expressed his confusion.
He remembered that he had a good relationship with his eldest brother's family in his early years, but later the fourth son of the eldest wife became increasingly cold towards him.
He was only fifteen or sixteen years old at the time, and was fully focused on his studies. Moreover, as a new father, he did not take his nephews' indifference seriously, until the relationship between the two families gradually drifted apart.
Han Qingyun and Lu Yanyan gave birth to four children.
Han Huaijin, like his father, is also an excellent student. He is even more talented in studying than his father.
He is more like his grandfather and uncle, with a broad mind, pure and kind.
He knew that he could not resolve the conflict between his grandmother and his uncle's family openly, so he secretly gave some food and paper and pens to his cousins, and often studied books borrowed from the academy with his third cousin.
The academy originally arranged for Han Huaijin to take the Tongsheng exam this year, but he suggested to his grandmother that his third cousin take the exam together, and was scolded by Chen.
Han Huaijin did not take the exam this year, and Chen was forced to agree to let the two of them take the exam together next year.
The second child, Han Huaiyu, is a gentle and generous girl.
After Mrs. Liu was sent back to the Lu family by Chen, Zhao He and Zhou Taohua were ordered around by Chen. Han Huaiyu had been helping the family by doing whatever he could to reduce the burden on his aunt and cousin's wife.
Five-year-old Han Huaian and Han Huaixi are twins, a boy and a girl, and are so young that they are spoiled by their family.
Han Huaian was fine. He was taught by Han Huaijin and the Lu family. Even if he was a little naughty, he would not do anything too extreme.
Only Han Huaixi was brought up by Chen personally since he was a child. He watched Chen torture the people of the first wife, and was influenced by her, so he also became very cunning.
In addition, there is Han Mingzhu, who is of the same age as Han Huaixi. Both are very beautiful little girls, and both are the most beloved youngest in the family. It is inevitable that they will be compared by the villagers.
In the eyes of outsiders, the spoiled Han Huaixi is naturally no match for the well-behaved and sensible Han Mingzhu.
Han Huaixi couldn't bear to hear people say that she was not as good as Han Mingzhu.
Han Qingyun and Chen shook their heads when they heard this: "Impossible, absolutely impossible. Our Xiaoxi and Han Huaixi here are both good children."
How could Lu Yanyan not know this? Although Han Huaixi didn't like being disparaged as inferior to Han Mingzhu, when facing outsiders, he was very protective of this soft-tempered cousin.
Three days ago, Han Huaixi and Han Mingzhu were playing by the river at the entrance of the village, and Han Beiwang and several children from the village were also fishing in the river.
For some unknown reason, the nosy kids in the village teased Han Huaixi, saying that he was not as good as Han Mingzhu. Han Huaixi got angry and pushed Han Mingzhu down.
Unfortunately, there was a stone where Han Mingzhu fell. The sharp stone scratched Han Mingzhu's head and caused bleeding. Han Mingzhu fainted at that time.
Han Beiwang saw his sister fainted with blood all over her head, and was so angry that he picked up Han Huaixi and threw him into the river.
Fortunately, the villagers rescued him in time, but Han Huaixi fell into a coma and had a high fever. He only woke up this morning when Han Xiaoxi came through.
That day at the riverside, when Chen, Lu Yanyan, Han Qingshan and Zhao He arrived, both children were unconscious.
When Chen heard that it was Han Beiwang who threw her most beloved granddaughter into the river, she was so angry that she wanted to beat Han Beiwang to death.
Han Qingshan and his wife held their little daughter in their arms with heartache, while also trying to protect Han Beiwang. In the end, they were forced to leave the house by Chen.
When Lu Yanyan took Han Huaixi to see a doctor, Chen threw out all the things in the Han family's main house.
Poor Han Qingshan's family, with a little daughter with blood all over her head and a grandson who was only a little over one year old, were kicked out of their home penniless. Apart from a few torn quilts and some tattered clothes, they couldn't even take a grain of rice with them.
It was the village chief Han Hongzhi who helped them find a few vacant thatched houses in the village for them to settle down temporarily.
The villagers also sent some vegetables and rice, but unfortunately the villagers were not rich, and the food they sent was only enough for Han Qingshan's family to eat for a few days.
