Reborn Young Lady's Peerless Grace

Chapter 23 Confusing right and wrong

The wind was biting cold, but the old man felt a sense of novelty he had never felt before.

In just a moment, they reached the roof of the theater.

Du Zhijie took the old man and jumped down lightly, and walked into the private room of the theater.

The private room is decorated very exquisitely and is as warm as spring.

As soon as the old man sat down, a servant brought him hot tea and snacks.

After taking a sip of hot tea, the old man felt his body gradually warming up.

"Old man, please wait a moment, the show is about to begin." Du Zhijie's eyes were unfathomable, making it impossible to guess what he was thinking.

The old man nodded, looking forward to the next show.

At this time, the theater was full of people and the atmosphere was bustling.

With the sound of gongs and drums, the play officially began.

The actors on the stage sang, recited, acted and performed brilliantly.

Next to the old man's private room were Su and Shen Wanru. Shen Wanru was sitting at the table, complaining to Su opposite her.

After she returned home today, Su heard from the servants that the eldest daughter looked gloomy, as if she had been wronged outside. So Su thought of bringing her here to listen to an opera and relax.

Shen Wanru's face was filled with grievance, and her voice was thick with tears. "Mother, what happened today may not have been unintentional by Fourth Sister. It's just that she embarrassed me in front of everyone and made me lose face in front of everyone."

Su's face darkened instantly, and she clutched the handkerchief tightly in her hands: "Is there such a thing? I thought she had changed her personality, but it seems I was wrong about her."

Shen Wanru noticed Su's reaction and felt secretly proud. "Besides, I accidentally knocked a beggar down today. It was an unintentional mistake. Yet, she managed to distort the truth and damage my reputation. Mother, please help me!"

Su slammed the table angrily, gritting her teeth, looking a bit disappointed in herself. "This Shen Wanqing is really becoming more and more lawless!"

As luck would have it, these words were heard verbatim by the old man and Du Zhijie. The people inside the room twisted the story around, and the old man, known for his hot temper, rolled up his sleeves and was about to confront Shen Wanru: "This is pure nonsense! Shen Wanqing has always been on Shen Wanru's side, so why is she so confused about right and wrong when it comes to Shen Wanru?"

Du Zhijie quickly reached out to stop the angry old man and said in a low voice, "Old sir, please don't be impulsive. We have a lot of eyes here, and the wife of the Hou Mansion is here today. If we argue, we may not be able to gain the upper hand."

The old man glared angrily at the people in the next house and was forcibly dragged away by Du Zhijie.

The two left the theater and walked out onto the street. It was still early, and many shops hadn't opened yet.

The old man was truly angry. He was a man who could not tolerate any grain of sand in his eyes. He kept shaking his head and muttering, "How could Shen Wanru be such a person? I used to think she had some kindness, but now it seems that she has no redeeming qualities at all."

Du Zhijie saw the old man's reaction clearly. He sighed, "Old sir, there's no need to get upset about this. It's common for women in this large and deep compound to scheme against each other for their own benefit. Shen Wanru is like this, so Shen Wanqing's actions today are just to protect herself."

The old man stopped and looked at Du Zhijie. "Sir, there is some truth in what you said. But Shen Wanru's distortion of the facts is truly shameful. I just tried to persuade Shen Wanqing not to be so scheming, but now it seems that I was wrong about her. I'm so ashamed!"

Du Zhijie smiled and said, "The old man was also kind-hearted. Who could have imagined that the twists and turns involved would be so complicated."

"Alas, I thought the young ladies in this mansion were all well-educated and well-mannered, but I didn't expect them to be so unbearable." The old man sighed, feeling a little regretful.

"It's probably not easy to stay out of trouble in such an environment. However, we can't generalize. There are inevitably kind people in such a house." Du Zhijie looked in the direction of Hou Mansion, and the emotion revealed in his eyes made the old man understand.

Everything he did today was probably to win the girl's heart!

"I hope so. After what happened today, I have a clearer understanding of the affairs within the Hou Mansion."

"Old man, why don't we find a place to have a cup of tea? You and I have very similar personalities."

The old man nodded, "Well, after all this trouble, I really need to rest."

They walked into a quiet teahouse and found a seat by the window.

The waiter quickly brought tea and some exquisite snacks. The old man picked up the teacup and took a sip, but his brows were still furrowed.

"Old man, don't worry about the troubles just now. Some people are not worth it." Du Zhijie did not lose any expression on the old man's face. If he wanted to help Shen Wanqing, he had to make the old man completely disappointed with Shen Wanru.

The old man put down his teacup and chuckled. "Sir, even though that's true, seeing such injustice, I really can't let it go."

The old man first favored Shen Wanru, but after seeing her true face, he felt unhappy.

"The old gentleman's sense of justice is truly admirable. But things in this world are often not as simple as we see. Perhaps there are hidden secrets that we don't know." Du Zhijie himself was in a deep house, and he knew the feelings of those women too well.

The old man pondered for a moment and said, "Perhaps you are right, and I just don't know people well enough."

"If you have nothing to do, old man, you can go to the restaurants and teahouses in Beijing to listen to what people say about this eldest lady and the fourth lady of the Hou Mansion." Du Zhijie snorted slightly.

This is not the first time that Shen Wanru has confused right and wrong.

"People are spreading rumors all the time, and those who spread them don't understand the truth." The old man sighed, then jokingly said, "Are you attracted to the Fourth Young Lady? Otherwise, why would you be so dedicated to helping her?"

Thinking of her, Du Zhijie's face softened.

"There is no difference between men and women."

"Heh..." The old man was taken aback, then burst into laughter. .....

While Shen Wanqing was still thinking about what to do next, the maid beside Su came to deliver a message.

"Fourth Miss, Madam wants to see you."

"I'll go right away." Shen Wanqing agreed and asked her to go and reply first.

When I just returned home, the house was quiet. After asking around, I found out that Su had taken Shen Wanru out of the house to watch a play in order to make her happy. It seemed that she had returned at this time.

Letting her go now was nothing more than Shen Wanru telling Su Shi what happened on the street today, adding fuel to the fire. As for who was the victim, Shen Wanru seemed to be pretending very well.

If she was going to act pitiful, a victim, Shen Wanru could do it, and so could Shen Wanqing. She first went back to her room, smeared some dirt on the inconspicuous marks on her body, and cut a long slit in her clothes. Her hair was also a little messy.

Now she looked like she had just been pinned to the ground and beaten by someone, looking miserable and pitiful.
