Reborn Young Lady's Peerless Grace

Chapter 12 Poisoning and Death

On the second day, the entire mansion was shrouded in the news of the sudden death of the servant and his son.

The person who poisoned the person handled the matter very cleanly, leaving no trace at all. For a moment, everyone in the mansion had their own guesses.

Shen Wanqing sat by the window, gazing at the cherry blossoms outside, her brow furrowed in a cloud of suspicion. The deaths of the servant and his son were too bizarre, and the various unfavorable signs forced her to suspect Shen Wanru had resorted to desperate measures. She decided to test Shen Wanru's true intentions, to confirm her suspicions.

She took Jing'er and went to Jinxiuyuan to find Shen Wanru.

Inside Jinxiu Courtyard, Shen Wanqing was leisurely leaning against the couch, eating a rose cake. She looked carefree, as if the rumors outside had not affected her at all.

"Hello, sister." Shen Wanqing walked to the couch and bowed politely.

"Why are you here today, sister? Do you have something to talk to me about?" Shen Wanqing put down the pastry in her hand and patted the residue on her hands.

"I heard that the servant and his mother died suddenly. I was worried about you, so I came to see you. I heard that the servant and his mother died in a tragic way. It's really heartbreaking." Shen Wanqing spoke frankly and didn't beat around the bush with her.

A barely perceptible panic flashed across Shen Wanru's eyes, and she frowned slightly, "It's really heartbreaking, but I only heard about it today."

She looked as if she was in a daze, which made people think that she was unaware of it.

Shen Wanqing watched Shen Wanru acting, but she didn't expose her.

"I've been confused these past few days. The servants were imprisoned. How did they die? What do you think about this, sister?"

Shen Wanru pursed her lips and said, "I've been staying in my room all day, and I just heard about this. What can I think? Mother will investigate this matter herself."

Shen Wanqing sneered in her heart, but remained expressionless: "Sister is right, but this way of death is too bizarre, and it is inevitable that people will think too much."

"He's already dead. Could he possibly cause more trouble?" Shen Wanru couldn't help but sneer in her heart. What a fool!

"Eldest sister, I have something to tell you today. I heard that there was a ghost in the mansion last night. The ghost looked very much like the servant's mother. She kept saying that she died unjustly and that her stomach hurt..."

Seeing Shen Wanqing's lifelike description, Shen Wanru's face turned pale with fear: "Sister, don't believe in ghosts and gods. I will ask mother to find a Taoist temple in Lingyin Temple to pray for the souls of the mother and son."

Shen Wanru's voice was trembling when she spoke. As the saying goes, if you don't do anything wrong, you don't have to worry about ghosts knocking on your door. She was obviously feeling guilty.

In the following conversation with Shen Wanru, her responses were all flawless, which also made Shen Wanqing feel cold all over.

The matter is now clear as day. The person who poisoned her is undoubtedly Shen Wanru.

Shen Wanqing's eyes darkened. Shen Wanru's cruelty was far beyond her imagination.

Now that she has gotten the answer she wants, there is no need for her to look at Shen Wanru's fake face.

After coming out of Jinxiu Courtyard, Shen Wanqing was in a heavy mood, her mind full of Shen Wanru's guilty and frightened expression.

Maybe this time, she doesn't need to do anything at all, and the people from the first house will reveal the truth.

When passing by the garden, Shen Wanxiu came to meet them.

Shen Wanqing humbly bowed as usual. She exchanged a few words of greeting and was about to leave when Shen Wanxiu blocked her way.

"Is there something wrong, Second Sister?"

Shen Wanxiu's smile was warm. "You don't look well, but if you have any troubles, you can talk to your second sister. Maybe your second sister can solve it."

Shen Wanqing looked natural, and her tone was filled with joy. "I don't have any worries at all. Thank you for your concern, Second Sister."

"Sister, there is one more thing. That day, several maids in Wutong Courtyard talked about you as an unlucky person. Later, I heard that the person who spread the rumor might be the eldest lady. I am not telling you all this today to destroy the relationship between you and the eldest lady. I just want to remind you." Shen Wanxiu did not miss any expression on Shen Wanqing's face. Seeing that she looked normal, as if everything was under her control.

"Thank you for your reminder, second sister. Since you told me this news, I will also give you a gift in return. What you want to know is exactly what you guessed in your heart." Shen Wanqing seemed to have said nothing, but also seemed to have told her everything.

Shen Wanxiu looked at the inconspicuous fourth sister in front of her, and then she realized that Shen Wanqing's entire temperament had instantly become different from before.

This is no longer the same person who used to be submissive and watch people's faces in the mansion.

Shen Wanxiu unconsciously took a step back. Fortunately, she had never been an enemy of Shen Wanqing. Although they were not very close, they were not enemies either.

"Second sister is right. When mother gave birth to me, the maids and the nanny in the room were all strictly ordered to keep their mouths shut and not spread the ominous news of my birth. The maids and the servants naturally didn't have the courage to do so. You can imagine who made up the rumors in this mansion." Shen Wanqing said slowly, her eyes bright.

No matter how much Su disliked her daughter, she was the mistress of the house, so it was impossible for her to spread such rumors.

Nanny Zhu was the most unlikely. Su's favorite was Shen Wanru, so the news of her ominous origin must have come from Shen Wanru. She was not even afraid. It couldn't be anyone else except Shen Wanru. Shen Wanxiu saw that Shen Wanqing's eyes changed instantly.

Before, Shen Wanqing was very supportive of her as the elder sister and obeyed Shen Wanru's every word. She really thought that Shen Wanqing knew nothing.

Now it seems that Shen Wanqing had been pretending to be stupid. She knew exactly how adults treated her.

"Sister, I really underestimated you before. I didn't expect you to be such a clever and clever person!" Shen Wanxiu joked.

"Second sister actually laughed at me. I was just trying to protect myself in this mansion. It's not as good as you say."

As the two were talking, the voices of the maids talking could be heard from not far away.

"Tell me, how did the servant and his mother get poisoned?"

"Who can tell for sure? I heard the Madam is investigating."

"This matter has caused a lot of uproar in the mansion. I heard that it is haunted. It's scary to think about it."

A little girl shrank her neck as she spoke.

Shen Wanqing and Shen Wanxiu looked at each other and knew in their hearts that if this matter was not thoroughly investigated, there would be no peace in the Hou Mansion.

Back at Qingfeiyuan, Shen Wanqing was deeply troubled. She had no solid evidence to support her suspicions; everything was just her own suspicions. Shen Wanru was cautious, so finding evidence against her would be difficult.

After Shen Wanqing left, Shen Wanru was no longer as calm as she appeared. She knew that her mother was investigating the matter and she had to find a solution as soon as possible.

A few days passed, and the people in the first house seemed to have accepted the fact and did not make any movement. Shen Wanqing thought that Su would be able to give them a clear answer after finding out the truth.
