Chapter 891: Deep into the Tiger's Den (4)
The night, as dark as ink, hung heavy over the town, seemingly swallowing everything in it. Taking advantage of the moonlight, Zhang Hao and his companions, like ghosts, cautiously crept towards the abandoned warehouse west of the city. The surroundings were eerily quiet, an invisible membrane that enveloped them tightly, amplifying every subtle sound. Only the gentle thud of their footsteps echoed through the stillness, like the drumbeat of death, beating at everyone's taut nerves.
The abandoned warehouse, like a dormant beast, emanated a sinister aura in the darkness. The warehouse door was tightly closed, with a faint light peeking through the crack. The light flickered in the darkness, as if it would go out at any moment, yet it was like the eyes of a demon, luring everyone closer.
Zhang Hao signaled for silence. His eyes betrayed a wary focus, like a cheetah poised for action. Then, he slowly approached the door, taking each step with extreme caution, fearing the slightest sound. He leaned over and peered through the crack in the door. He saw shadowy figures moving about in the warehouse. They loomed in the dimness, drifting like ghosts.
"There are quite a few people inside, everyone, proceed with caution," Zhang Hao whispered, his voice as soft as a gentle breeze, yet carrying an undeniable firmness. Everyone nodded, their eyes revealing tension and determination. Their hands clenched their weapons, their knuckles turning white from the exertion, as if swearing their resolve for the coming battle.
They circled the side of the warehouse and found a dilapidated window. The glass had long since shattered, and jagged fragments of glass clung to the frame, gleaming coldly in the moonlight. Ling Yu, nimble as a black panther, was the first to scramble inside. His movements were so light and soundless as he landed. After landing, he quickly and vigilantly scanned his surroundings, his eyes as sharp as an eagle's, scanning every corner. After confirming that it was safe, he gestured to the people outside. The gesture was simple and clear, like a signal on the battlefield, conveying the message of safety.
Everyone climbed through the window one after another. The warehouse was filled with a stale, rancid smell that was as tangible as a substance, nearly nauseating. A mountain of debris obscured their view. The objects, in all shapes and sizes, resembled discarded furniture, others like battered wooden crates, like ferocious monsters in the dim light. They navigated carefully among the storage, as if groping through a maze. Every step was filled with uncertainty and danger, and they tried not to make any noise, fearing to alert the enemies lurking in the darkness.
Suddenly, a conversation was heard up ahead. The sound was particularly abrupt in the silent warehouse, like the cry of a night owl, breaking the suffocating silence.
"We have robbed a lot of treasures this time. Brothers, you can divide them well." A voice was heard with greed and excitement, as if he had already seen the glittering gold and silver treasures falling into his pockets.
"Hmph, don't be too happy too soon. Things are tense lately, so we'd better be careful." Another voice was full of caution and worry, which doused the excitement of some of the companions like cold water.
Zhang Hao and his companions approached quietly. In the dim light, they saw a group of thieves gathered around a pile of gold and silver treasures. The leader was a massive figure, towering over the crowd like a small mountain. A hideous scar stretched from his forehead to the corner of his mouth, making him look particularly terrifying in the dim light, like the mark of a demon.
"It's them." Ling Yu said in a low voice, with a hint of excitement in his eyes. That excitement was like the light when a hunter sees his prey, full of fighting spirit and desire.
Zhang Hao was just thinking about what to do when suddenly, a rat jumped out from the pile of debris and ran past a thief. Startled, the thief shouted, "What the hell!" The cry resounded like thunder in the warehouse, breaking the silence.
Everyone thought to themselves that this was not good, they were now exposed.
The thieves instantly became alert and drew their weapons. Their eyes were filled with vigilance and ferocity, staring at Zhang Hao and the others like hungry wolves. "Enemy!"
Zhang Hao knew that he could no longer hide, and shouted, "Go!" The shout was as loud as a bell, full of courage and determination, like a charge horn, inspiring everyone's fighting spirit.
A fierce battle erupted between the two sides. The bandits were numerous, surging like a tide, their weapons flashing with a cold light, as if threatening to overwhelm Zhang Hao and his companions. But Zhang Hao and his companions were undaunted. As resolute as steel, they met the bandits' attack.
Zhang Hao wielded his sword, its blade flashing and gleaming. Each strike carried a fierce momentum, seemingly slicing through the very air. The sword in his hand swung like a swift dragon, forcing the thieves to retreat. His gaze was firm and sharp, gazing at the enemy like a hawk, and each strike was precise and powerful.
The mysterious man, like a ghost, weaved through the thieves, his dagger piercing their vital points with pinpoint accuracy. His movements were light and agile, like an assassin in the dark night, making them impossible to guard against. Each strike was accompanied by a scream from the thieves.
The woman cast a spell from behind, sending beams of light shooting towards the thieves like meteors, providing support to the others. The beams were brilliant and dazzling, like meteors in the sky, carrying a powerful magical force. After hitting the thieves, loud noises were emitted.
An old man stood aside, muttering something, casting a buffing spell on everyone. His voice was deep and mysterious, as if communicating with the heavens and the earth. As he chanted, rays of light enveloped the group, increasing their strength and speed.
Ling Yu engaged several thieves in close combat. He was as agile as a monkey, looking for opportunities between the thieves' attacks. The dagger in his hand gleamed coldly in the moonlight, and every swing carried a deadly threat.
However, the thieves fought desperately, and they would do anything to protect their treasure. For a while, the two sides were in a stalemate and the battle entered a white-hot stage.
"This is not a solution. We must end this quickly!" Zhang Hao shouted. His voice became hoarse due to the battle, but still firm and powerful.
At that moment, the mysterious man spotted the bandit leader's weakness. His eyes lit up instantly, like a hunter discovering his prey's weakness, and a surge of excitement surged in his heart. He adjusted his position slightly, ready to deliver the fatal blow...
