Chapter 874: Escape from Life and Death (2)
When everyone heard the little girl's words, it was as if they saw a ray of light in the darkness, and they rushed towards the passage with their last bit of strength.
Zhang Hao led the way, swinging his sword relentlessly, severing incoming spider silk. His steps were unsteady, but his gaze was resolute, and he kept shouting, "Quick! Follow!" Each swing of his sword pierced the wind, its blade gleaming faintly in the darkness. His clothes were already tattered, and the wounds on his body had reopened from the intense movement, staining his clothes red with blood. But he paid no mind, his only thought being: to lead everyone out of this terrifying place.
The woman pulled the little girl along, following closely behind Zhang Hao. Though her magic was weak, she still managed to shield everyone from the flank attacks. Her breathing was rapid, her face pale as paper, but a determined light shone in her eyes. The little girl clutched the woman's hand tightly, her eyes filled with fear, but she didn't cry. She bit her lip and tried to keep up with the others.
Lingyu and the mysterious man were left behind, engaging in a desperate struggle with the pursuing spider. The mysterious man's dagger darted between the spider's long legs, each strike laced with a desperate determination. His eyes were cold and resolute, as if he had transformed himself into a killing machine. Lingyu picked up rocks from the ground and smashed them hard at the spider. His arms ached from the exertion, but he kept throwing, shouting, "Come on! You damned bastards!"
The old man panted heavily and struggled to follow the group. The staff in his hand had lost its luster. His body was shaky, but he still held on with a strong will.
The passage was narrow and rugged, and as they ran through it, they were bumped by protruding rocks from time to time. The sharp stones scratched their skin, causing bursts of stinging pain, but they did not dare to stop for a moment, as the footsteps and hissing sounds of the spiders behind them were getting closer and closer.
"Ah!" The woman screamed. She was tripped by a stone and the little girl almost slipped out of her hand.
Zhang Hao hurriedly turned around and pulled up the woman and the little girl, "Don't stop!" His voice was full of anxiety and concern.
The pressure on Lingyu and the mysterious man suddenly increased, and several spiders seized the opportunity to pounce. The mysterious man couldn't dodge, and a spider's long leg scratched his back, instantly staining his clothes red with blood. But he didn't retreat at all. Instead, he roared and attacked the spiders even more frantically.
"Go!" the mysterious man shouted loudly and struggled to insert the dagger into the eye of a spider.
Everyone finally rushed into the depths of the passage, however, a fork appeared in front of them.
"Which way?" Ling Yu asked anxiously, his voice trembling with fear.
"No time to hesitate, left!" Zhang Hao made a quick decision. He quickly scanned the two passages and made his choice based on his intuition.
Everyone ran towards the passage on the left, with the spider still chasing them closely.
This passage seemed even narrower, only wide enough for one person to pass through. Zhang Hao let the woman lead the little girl ahead, while he stayed behind to fend off any spiders that might catch up.
Suddenly, a pungent smoke filled the passage, making it difficult for everyone to breathe. The smoke carried a strong, fishy smell that made everyone's eyes water.
"Cover your mouth and nose!" the old man shouted, his voice sounding particularly weak in the smoke.
But the smoke grew thicker, blurring everyone's vision. It was as if a thick veil obscured the view, and only vague figures could be seen.
Just then, a spider burst out of the smoke and pounced at Zhang Hao. Zhang Hao could barely make out the spider through the smog and swung his sword to block it. However, his vision was obstructed, and his movements were a little slow. The spider's long legs swept him, and he fell to the ground. He felt a sharp pain and his head was buzzing.
"Zhang Hao!" The woman's voice came from the smoke, full of worry.
Zhang Hao endured the pain and climbed up, "Don't worry about me, just go!" His voice was hoarse and firm.
Amidst the smoke and the spiders chasing them, the group continued to move forward with difficulty. Every step was filled with uncertainty and danger, and every second seemed like a race against death.
The passage seemed endless, darkness and fear enveloped everyone. They had no idea what lay beyond it, nor did they know if they could escape this life-or-death crisis. But the flame of hope in their hearts remained unextinguished, a longing for life, an anticipation for the future...
