Rise of the Otherworld.

Chapter 657 A New Journey (9)

After escaping the cave, they found themselves in an unfamiliar forest. Sunlight filtered through the dense foliage, creating patches of light that fell on the ground like golden fragments. A fresh breeze, carrying the fragrance of grass and earth, finally soothed their frayed nerves.

Zhang Hao looked around, pondering his next move. His gaze was deep and resolute, as if he could pierce the dense forest and see the path ahead. "We have just received a mysterious inheritance, and we cannot let it go to waste." His voice was deep and powerful, remarkably clear in the silent forest. His clothes fluttered gently in the breeze, still tattered, but his straight back betrayed an indomitable spirit.

The woman gently brushed off the dust on her body and said, "But we don't know what this inheritance will bring. The road ahead is still full of unknowns." Her brows furrowed slightly, and a hint of worry lingered in her eyes. Her hair was a little messy, with a few strands sticking to her forehead, but it still couldn't hide her beauty and gentleness. Her hands unconsciously twisted together, revealing her inner uneasiness.

The herbalist looked around excitedly, "Never mind, let's get out of this forest first!" His eyes sparkled, filled with curiosity and desire for the unknown. His steps were brisk, as if all these difficulties could not stop him from moving forward.

The old man nodded. "Indeed, we must first find a populated area and learn about the surrounding area." His voice was steady and calm, carrying the wisdom and composure accumulating over the years. His eyes scanned the forest, as if searching for a clue.

The black-robed man remained silent, seemingly lost in thought. His eyes were deep and complex, difficult to read. His black robe swayed slightly in the wind, adding to his mysterious aura.

So, the group began their journey through the mountains and forests. Along the way, they encountered numerous obstacles. The steep slopes seemed like an insurmountable chasm, and the soft, slippery soil beneath their feet required immense effort with every step. A rushing stream roared past, splashing and roaring. They had to find narrow stone bridges or thick tree trunks to cross; the slightest mistake could mean they were swept away. Dense thorn bushes grew, and their sharp thorns scratched their skin, leaving bloody marks.

At dusk, they finally emerged from the forest and spotted a small village in the distance. The village was surrounded by golden wheat fields, which rustled gently in the breeze. Smoke curled from the chimneys on the rooftops, creating a tranquil and peaceful pastoral scene.

The group quickened their pace and arrived at the village. The village's main gate was made of simple wood, with a worn brass bell hanging on it. Zhang Hao knocked on a door. It opened, and an old man poked his head out. His face was covered in wrinkles, but his eyes were bright and sharp.

"Who are you?" The old man looked at them suspiciously. His eyes swept over everyone with a hint of vigilance.

Zhang Hao quickly explained, "We are travelers who got lost in the mountains and forests and would like to stay here for one night." He had a sincere smile on his face, trying to dispel the old man's doubts.

The old man looked them up and down, and finally nodded, "Come in." His voice was hoarse and gentle, and he turned around and led everyone into the house.

Everyone felt a warm sensation as they walked into the house. The interior was simple and neat, with a few ancient calligraphy and paintings hanging on the wall and an oil lamp on the table, emitting a dim light.

During their conversation with the old man, they learned that this area harbored many unknown secrets and dangers. "It's said that in a nearby mountain lies a mysterious cave, hidden within countless treasures and powerful magical artifacts, but also guarded by ferocious beasts," the old man said. His eyes revealed a hint of awe and fear.

Zhang Hao and the others were moved when they heard this. "Perhaps this is our chance to improve our strength." Zhang Hao looked at the others, his eyes gleaming with determination.

The woman was a little worried. "But it could also be life-threatening." Her voice was soft and hesitant, her hands tightly grasping the corners of her clothes.

The herbalist did not hesitate, "What are you afraid of? We have the inheritance!" His voice was loud and firm, and his face was full of confidence.

The old man looked at them and sighed softly, "Young man, you still have to be careful."

After some discussion, they decided to explore the mountain the next day. At night, they lay awake on their simple beds, their hearts filled with anticipation and anxiety for the unknown...
