Chapter 478 Cave Exploration
The stone slab slowly rose, and a pungent odor gushed out of the cave, forcing everyone to cover their mouths and noses. The smell was like that of a rotten swamp, mixed with a strong, fishy stench, making them nauseous.
Zhang Hao frowned and cautiously entered the cave first, the sword in his hand gleaming coldly in the dim light. He walked slowly, each step carefully, as if the slightest mistake would lead to his demise.
The cave was dark and damp, with the walls covered in an unknown type of moss, a dark green that gave off a rotten smell. The ground beneath my feet was also muddy, making a puffing sound with every step.
The herbalist followed closely behind, his voice trembling as he said, "This place feels eerie. Could there be something scarier?" His eyes darted around, his face filled with fear. He gripped the stick tightly with both hands, his knuckles turning white from the strain.
The man in black robe snorted coldly: "If you are afraid, don't follow me." His tone was full of disdain, and his figure looked even more mysterious in the darkness.
The old man comforted him, "Just be careful." His voice was steady and gentle, giving people an inexplicable sense of security.
They continued to go deeper into the cave, and in the dim light, they could see some messy footprints on the ground. The footprints were deep and shallow, of different sizes, and looked very recent, as if someone had hurriedly passed by not long ago.
Zhang Hao squatted down and observed carefully, "These footprints look very new, they should have been left not long ago." His eyes were focused, trying to find some clues from these footprints.
At this moment, a strange sound came from the depths of the cave, like the low groaning of some creature. The sound was low and long, like a call from hell, echoing in the cave, making people shudder.
"Everyone, be careful!" Zhang Hao said vigilantly. He stood up, gripping his sword tighter, his body tense, ready to fight at any moment.
They slowed down their pace and became more cautious. Every step was careful, and the sound of their heartbeats was particularly clear in the silent cave.
Suddenly, a giant spider swooped down from the cave ceiling. It was massive, more than a man's height, its fur gleaming eerily in the darkness. Its long legs, like sharp blades, made the air whirr.
Zhang Hao swiftly swung his sword to block, but it collided with the spider's long legs, sending a shower of sparks flying. He was knocked back a few steps by the immense force, but he quickly regained his balance and faced the enemy once more.
The spider opened its bloody mouth and spewed out a stream of green venom.
The old man cast a spell, and a beam of light struck the spider, causing it to freeze. Like a flash of lightning, the light instantly illuminated the entire cave.
The herbalist also plucked up the courage to help with the attack with a stick. Although his stick could not cause much damage to the spider, it distracted the spider.
With everyone's joint efforts, the spider was finally repelled and hid in a dark corner.
"We can't stay here for long. Let's hurry up," the black-robed man said. His voice was urgent, and his pace quickened.
They continued on their journey and soon came to a spacious stone chamber. The walls of the chamber were inlaid with faintly glowing gemstones, allowing a vague view of the interior.
Inside the stone chamber stood a huge sarcophagus, its lid covered in strange patterns. The lines of those patterns were twisted, as if telling a terrifying story.
"This sarcophagus exudes an evil aura," the herbalist said. He unconsciously took a few steps back, his eyes filled with fear.
Zhang Hao stepped forward and tried to push open the coffin lid, but found it incredibly heavy. He took a deep breath and used all his strength, but the lid didn't budge at all.
"Let's go together!" the old man shouted.
Everyone worked together and finally pushed the coffin lid open slowly.
A strong stench of decay filled the air, and inside the coffin lay a skeleton, clutching a black token in its hand. The token emitted a dim light, sending chills down one's spine.
Zhang Hao picked up the token and looked at it carefully, "This token may be related to the secret of the seal." His eyes were focused, trying to find some clues from the token.
Just as they were about to investigate further, the cave began to shake violently. Rocks from above fell, and huge cracks appeared on the ground.
"Oh no, this cave is going to collapse!" exclaimed the herbalist.
"Run to the exit!" the man in black robe shouted.
In the chaos, everyone ran towards the exit. The cave behind them continued to collapse, as if to bury them forever in this darkness...
