Chapter 440 Turning danger into safety
Zhang Hao noticed the wound on the black panther's hind leg, and a thought struck him: perhaps this was a turning point. A flash of calm thought flashed across his eyes, and his brain quickly worked on a countermeasure.
He whispered to the herbalist, "Don't panic. It's injured and may not be as agile. We may have a chance." His voice was steady and powerful, trying to inject a bit of calmness into the herbalist who was so nervous that he almost lost his mind.
The herbalist's voice trembled: "But...but it's still very scary." He couldn't take his eyes off the black panther's body that exuded a dangerous aura, and his legs couldn't stop trembling slightly.
Zhang Hao stared at the black panther and said slowly: "We should try not to provoke it, but we must also be prepared for defense." His body was tense, like a fully drawn bowstring, ready to deal with the black panther's attack at any time.
The black panther seemed to sense their vigilance and became increasingly restless. It paced back and forth, and the roar in its throat became deeper and deeper. The sound was like a roar from hell, which was terrifying.
Zhang Hao moved cautiously, trying to find a favorable position. Each step was as light as a feather, fearing a sudden attack from the black panther. Suddenly, the black panther pounced. It was extremely fast, like a flash of black lightning.
Zhang Hao dodged to the side, swinging his sword with the force of the blow. The blade scraped against the air, emitting a sharp whistling sound. The black panther missed its pounce, landed, and turned to attack again. Its movements were slightly slowed by the injury to its hind legs, but it remained incredibly ferocious.
Zhang Hao dodged while observing the black panther's movements. He noticed that due to the injury on its hind legs, the panther's attack direction was always slightly off. His eyes grew more determined, and he gradually gained confidence.
"Target its weakness!" Zhang Hao shouted to the herbalist. His voice echoed in the cave, carrying an undeniable determination.
The herbalist gripped his stick nervously, but didn't dare to move forward. His forehead was covered in sweat, and his heart was beating like a drum.
Zhang Hao seized the opportunity and, just as the black panther lunged again, stabbed it in the injured hind leg. The tip of the sword pierced the wound accurately, and the black panther screamed in agony, its howl so loud that the rubble in the cave fell. After landing, the black panther's attack slowed down.
"Now!" Zhang Hao shouted, his voice full of strength and encouragement.
The herbalist mustered up his courage and swung his stick at the black panther, which landed heavily on the panther with a whistling sound.
Under their combined attack, the black panther gradually lost ground. The fierce gleam in its eyes faded, and it began to hesitate and retreat. Finally, realizing it couldn't gain any advantage, it turned and slowly disappeared into the bushes.
"Huh... finally leaving." The herbalist sat down on the ground, breathing heavily. His clothes were already soaked with sweat, as if he had just been pulled out of the water.
Zhang Hao also breathed a sigh of relief and wiped the sweat from his forehead: "Let's go quickly, we shouldn't stay here for long." There was a hint of fatigue in his voice, but more of a sense of vigilance towards the unknown ahead.
They continued along the stream and after walking for a while, they found a cave in front of them. The entrance of the cave was covered by vines and weeds, and it was difficult to find without careful observation.
"Do you want to go in and take a look?" the herbalist asked. There was a hint of hesitation and fear in his voice, as he was still frightened by the fight with the black panther.
Zhang Hao hesitated for a moment: "Be careful, go in and take a look." His eyes stared into the depths of the cave, as if trying to see through the unknown darkness.
As they entered the cave, a damp atmosphere filled the air. The smell of earth and rock was oppressive. They explored carefully, the rocks beneath their feet were uneven, and they could easily fall if they weren't careful.
Suddenly, a faint sound of dripping water was heard. "Tick, tick..." The sound was particularly clear in the silent cave.
"What's that sound?" the herbalist asked nervously, his voice trembling as it echoed in the cave.
Zhang Hao walked in the direction of the sound and saw drops of clear water falling from the cave wall, forming a small puddle on the ground. The water in the puddle was crystal clear and reflected the strange rocks on the cave ceiling.
"Maybe this is an underground water source," Zhang Hao said, his voice echoing in the cave, a hint of thought in his voice.
Just then, a strange sound came from behind them. It sounded like something was moving slowly, rubbing against the ground and making a rustling sound...
