Rise of the Otherworld.

Chapter 402 Turning Point and Crisis

The next morning, sunlight shone upon the crowd, but it couldn't dispel the gloom that hung over their hearts. The soft light outlined their exhausted yet resolute figures. Zhang Hao gazed at the closed city gate, pondering a strategy. The gate seemed like an insurmountable chasm, standing in their way.

"This isn't going to work. We have to find a way to get into the city." Zhang Hao's brows furrowed, his eyes revealing anxiety and determination. His voice was deep and powerful, as if he was trying to cheer himself and his companions up.

Mo Ying suggested, "How about we sneak in?" A hint of adventure flashed in his eyes, and his hand gripping the hilt of the sword turned slightly white due to nervousness.

Feng Wuhen shook his head: "The city walls are heavily guarded, and it's too risky to sneak in. If we're not careful, all our efforts will be wasted." His eyes were calm and composed as he analyzed the current situation.

Just as everyone was at their wit's end, an old man slowly approached from a distance. His steps were unsteady, but each step exuded a calm and composed composure. He was dressed simply, his washed-out robe swaying gently in the wind. Yet, his eyes revealed an extraordinary aura, profound and wise, as if he had experienced the vicissitudes of life.

"Young man, I see you've been wandering here for a long time. What's going on?" the old man asked. His voice was hoarse but gentle, carrying a reassuring power.

Zhang Hao hurried forward, bowed respectfully, and explained the whole story to the old man. His words were urgent and sincere, hoping to get the old man's help.

The old man smiled slightly, the wrinkles on his face crisscrossing like ravines, but it only made him look kinder. "I'm an old acquaintance of the mayor of this city. Perhaps I can say a few words for you."

Upon hearing this, a glimmer of hope ignited in the hearts of the people. That hope was like a candle in the darkness, though faint, it was enough to illuminate the direction they were heading.

With the old man's help, the city gate finally swung open. The heavy gate clunked, a sound that spoke of the city's mystery and majesty. Everyone was able to enter, stepping into this city filled with unknowns.

However, before they could rejoice, they noticed a strange atmosphere within the city. The streets were deserted, and the deserted cobblestone pavement seemed especially desolate under the sunlight. Most shops were closed, their shuttered doors and windows as if hiding some unspeakable secret. The few passersby who occasionally passed by were hurried, heads lowered, unwilling to make eye contact.

"This city seems to be hiding some secrets," Feng Wuhen said warily. His eyes scanned the surroundings, not missing any suspicious details.

Zhang Hao nodded: "Everyone, be careful." He lowered his voice, fearing that it would attract unnecessary attention.

They found an inn to settle down temporarily, preparing to further explore the situation. The inn's lobby was filled with a dull atmosphere, and the waiters were expressionless and busy mechanically.

At night, Zhang Hao went out alone, hoping to find some clues. The moonlight was like water, spreading across the quiet street, stretching his figure outwardly and lonely.

When he walked into a secluded alley, he was suddenly surrounded by several dark figures. In the darkness, the figures of those dark figures were looming, emitting a dangerous aura.

"Kid, stay out of my business, or you'll be in trouble!" a dark figure said viciously. His voice was low and fierce, like a threat from hell.

Zhang Hao gripped the sword tightly in his hand, and the sword reflected the cold moonlight. "Who are you?" His voice was calm and firm, without any fear.

Just as the two sides were at a stalemate, a figure suddenly appeared. As fast as lightning, it instantly reached Zhang Hao's side.

"Stop it!" A crisp voice rang out, and everyone was startled.

The person who came was a young woman in a red dress, with a pretty face and a heroic air.

"You are so brave to cause trouble on my territory!" The woman raised her eyebrows and glared at the dark shadows.

The black shadows seemed to be afraid of the woman. They exchanged glances with each other and then slowly retreated.

"Thank you for your help, young lady." Zhang Hao said with a fist salute.

"You're welcome. The water in this city is very deep, so be careful." After the woman said this, she turned around and disappeared into the night.

Zhang Hao gazed at the direction the woman had left, lost in thought. What secrets did this city hold? How would they face the challenges ahead?
