The President's Tender Trap

Chapter 13 The Fog of Identity

Su Wan's heart was filled with anticipation, but it was also filled with more complex emotions. Ever since her first date with Lu Ming, their relationship seemed to be heating up. Every day at work, she could feel Lu Ming's care and consideration. This warmth gradually allowed her to let go of her guard and begin to enjoy this wonderful relationship.

However, everything changed on an ordinary working day.

That afternoon, Su Wan and her colleagues had lunch together. Everyone was chatting and laughing, and the atmosphere was lively. Just then, a colleague suddenly mentioned a piece of company news: "I heard that Lu Ming's father is discussing the succession issue recently, and Lu Ming is likely to become the company's new chairman."

These words hit Su Wan's heart like a hammer. Her hand trembled, and she almost dropped her chopsticks. Lu Ming? The chairman's successor? She couldn't believe this fact, and countless questions flashed through her mind.

"What are you talking about?" She pretended to be calm, trying to hide her inner turmoil.

"It's Lu Ming. Everyone knows that he is the son of a senior executive and his family is very well-off." The colleague continued, his face full of envy.

"Really..." Su Wan's voice faded, her heart churning. Could it be that her long-standing closeness was simply due to Lu Ming's identity? She secretly speculated that she was just one of his many suitors. Was she just a temporary plaything in his heart?

After lunch, Su Wan's mind was restless. She was distracted at work, glancing at Lu Ming from time to time. He was busy with his task, his expression focused, seemingly oblivious to the outside world. But she couldn't let go of the worry in her heart. Lu Ming's identity weighed like a mountain on her heart.

Finally, unable to bear it any longer, Su Wan decided to confront Lu Ming. After get off work, she arranged to meet him at a cafe near the company. Lu Ming arrived as scheduled, still wearing a warm smile, as if he hadn't noticed Su Wan's unusual behavior.

"How was your work today?" he asked with concern after sitting down.

"Not bad." Su Wan was absent-minded, her eyes wandering, not knowing how to start.

"What's wrong with you? You look like you're in a bad mood." Lu Ming noticed her change and spoke with concern in his tone.

"I... I have something I want to talk to you about." Su Wan mustered up her courage, but a complex emotion surged in her heart.

"Okay, you say." Lu Ming smiled slightly, with anticipation flashing in his eyes.

"I heard that you... are the heir to the company's top management." Su Wan finally said it, her voice trembling slightly.

Lu Ming's expression froze for a moment, then he regained his composure. He lowered his head and took a sip of coffee, seemingly pondering his response. Silence stretched between the two of them, and Su Wan grew increasingly uneasy.

"Yes, I am. But this doesn't affect my feelings for you." Lu Ming finally spoke, his tone serious and firm.

"But I'm worried that I'm just a plaything in your heart." Su Wan's voice lowered, with anxiety and doubt in her eyes. "I don't want to be an accessory in your life."

"You shouldn't have such thoughts at all." Lu Ming's tone became serious, and a hint of dissatisfaction appeared in his eyes. "I hope you can believe my feelings for you."

"But..." Su Wan was conflicted and couldn't let it go.

"I hope you can give me a chance to prove my sincerity with actions." Lu Ming's voice was low and gentle, as if carrying an invisible force, trying to touch her heart.

"Action?" Su Wan looked up and saw the determination in Lu Ming's eyes. Her heart was stirred, as if this emotion wasn't as frivolous as she had thought.

"Yes, I will use my actions to prove my feelings for you." Lu Ming's tone was full of determination. He moved slightly closer, his eyes as gentle as the morning light.

A warm feeling welled up in Su Wan's heart, but she still couldn't completely let go of her doubts. She wanted to believe Lu Ming, but the uneasiness in her heart followed her like a shadow, unwilling to leave.

"Okay, I'll try to believe you." Su Wan finally said, silently hoping to find that sense of belonging.

Lu Ming smiled with relief, as if he had finally seen the light. He reached out and held Su Wan's hand, the warm touch sending ripples through her heart.

"I'll let you see that I'm definitely not a frivolous person." Lu Ming's voice was firm and gentle, as if whispering in her ear, giving her endless comfort.

"I'm looking forward to it." Su Wan smiled slightly and prayed secretly in her heart that this relationship could go smoothly.

However, life doesn't become easier just because of a momentary determination. In the days that followed, Su Wan found that the pressure brought by Lu Ming's identity became increasingly obvious. Whenever she was with Lu Ming, colleagues would always cast strange glances at her, as if judging her choice.

"Is Lu Ming with you for some kind of benefit?" A colleague hinted privately, making Su Wan feel uneasy.

"Don't you think he is not on the same level as you?" Another colleague also expressed doubt, with disdain in his tone.

Su Wan felt suffocated, and her confidence in this relationship was shaken again. She began to think over and over again about Lu Ming's true thoughts, and the doubts in her heart were like a thorn, piercing her heart.

At this moment, Lu Ming noticed Su Wan's change and asked with concern: "You seem to be in a bad mood recently, what happened?"

"I... am fine." Su Wan forced a smile, but she felt uneasy in her heart.

"If there is something that bothers you, be sure to tell me." Lu Ming's eyes were firm and gentle, as if he was trying to warm her heart.

"I'm just a little tired." Su Wan lowered her head and suppressed the fluctuations in her heart.

A few days later, Lu Ming specially arranged a short trip, hoping to take this opportunity to relieve Su Wan's pressure. Although Su Wan was a little hesitant, she finally agreed.

On the day of the trip, the sun was shining brightly and the mountain air was fresh and pleasant. The two of them toured the beautiful scenery together, and Su Wan was gradually attracted by the beauty before her.

"This place is so nice," she exclaimed, and her mood seemed to brighten.

"I want to bring you here because I hope you can let go of the worries in your heart." Lu Ming smiled, his eyes showing concern.

"Thank you, Lu Ming." Su Wan's heart was touched. At this moment, she seemed to be able to feel his sincerity towards her.

As time went by, their relationship gradually stabilized, and Su Wan began to slowly let go of her doubts. She no longer paid too much attention to the outside world, but tried hard to understand Lu Ming's heart.

However, just when she thought she could devote herself to this relationship, new challenges quietly arrived.

One day, while working overtime at the company, Su Wan overheard two colleagues discussing Lu Ming. She vaguely heard the words "family pressure" and "successor" mentioned, and her heart tightened.

"Lu Ming will take over the company sooner or later. He is with Su Wan because of this pressure." One of the colleagues said with disdain in his tone.

Su Wan felt a wave of loss in her heart. Could it be that she still couldn't escape the shadow brought by this identity? She silently retreated to her desk, feeling extremely wronged and uneasy.

At this moment, Lu Ming walked in. Seeing Su Wan's expression, he immediately realized that something was wrong with her. "What's wrong? You look depressed." He asked with concern.

"I'm fine." Su Wan pretended to be calm, but the turmoil in her heart could not be calmed down.
