NCA batteries have the characteristics of high energy density, long cycle life and excellent thermal stability, and are widely used in fields such as electric vehicles and hybrid vehicles.
The NMC formula in the third-level technology that Hao Qiang obtained is actually the early and mid-stage technology of Ningde Times, not NCM811.
NCM811 is only found in the ternary lithium formula of the four-level technology.
But he just doesn't know it yet.
Even if we know it, the difficulty of research and development is still very great.
The NMC formula currently under development has a nickel-cobalt-manganese ratio of 5:2:3, which Hao Qiang calls NCM523. It will also be the mainstream NCM ratio for ternary lithium in the next ten years.
As the proportion of nickel in positive electrode materials increases, the research and development of electrolytes also faces challenges.
The tetravalent nickel ions in high nickel have high catalytic activity, fast oxidation and decomposition rate, and can easily destroy the electrolyte structure.
So, it is not possible to develop a product just by having a formula.
If there are slight differences in the process, it may not be successful.
At present, Hao Qiang is mainly responsible for the research and development of electrolytes and is working hard to solve the problems of positive electrode nickel and electrolytes.
At the same time, he is also learning about the current international market prices of nickel, cobalt and manganese.
Throughout the year, the average spot price of nickel on the London Metal Exchange (LME) was US$/ton;
Cobalt metal is much more expensive, about 3.5 times that of nickel.
The price of electrolytic manganese is much cheaper, just like 304 stainless steel, only about 10,000 yuan per ton.
A 50-kWh ternary lithium battery pack has a cell weight of about 210 kilograms. According to the NCM523 formula, the total weight of nickel-cobalt materials is about 70 kilograms, and the material cost alone is 1.5 yuan.
This is also the reason why an electric car battery pack can cost nearly 100,000 yuan.
The production cost of other battery factories is not low.
Hao Qiang changed into work clothes and worked with the researchers to develop NCM523.
Sometimes, he would do the work himself, but mostly he would provide guidance.
Although he knew the electrolyte formula, the experiment was carried out step by step. He had to experiment continuously to obtain data and analyze the trends. It was not something that could be done overnight.
