Time Travel and Love

Chapter 57 Departure

Chu Qingmeng had been taking his medicine regularly for the entire time. She wanted to get better quickly, and she wanted to send him off to war. Time flew by, and soon it was the day before the departure. Concubine Liu emerged from the Buddhist temple, grumbling with reluctance. She wished nothing more than for her three sons to be safe and sound for the rest of her life, and she was powerless to care for anything else. But now that both of her sons were about to go off to the battlefield, she felt uneasy, and she prepared everything she could think of for them to take with them. She kept giving them instructions all day, so they were finally able to leave at night to say goodbye to Chu Qingmeng and Mu Lingxue.

Chu Qingmeng's injuries had healed considerably. She had been sitting on the porch since morning, waiting for Mo Liujin. Chun and Xia Zhi had taken turns urging her to go back inside and wait, but Chu Qingmeng remained unmoved. She felt that only the cold could clear her mind. She was terribly anxious. She had only drunk water all day and couldn't eat anything.

Finally, before dinner, Mo Liujin arrived. Seeing her sitting in the corridor, he hurried over, helped her up, and brought her into the house to sit on the soft couch. He frowned and said, "It's so cold, why are you sitting outside?"

Touching Chu Qingmeng's cold hand, he quickly put it into his arms to warm it. Chu Qingmeng replied softly, "I want to wait for you. My heart is in a panic. But I don't know what to do."

"Promise me that you will take good care of yourself and don't skip meals, or I'll be worried at the border. Don't distract me, okay?" Mo Liujin pulled her into his arms and comforted her, "I'll write you a letter every month. If you have anything you want to say, tell me. Don't worry about trivial matters or go to see mother. Let Chun and Xiazhi accompany you wherever you go. If you don't want to socialize, tell mother, don't force yourself. Don't leave Feiying and the others behind when you go out. Things are not peaceful right now, and I'm worried about you staying in the mansion, so you must not leave the secret guards behind. And..."

Looking at Mo Liujin's endless instructions, Chu Qingmeng suddenly laughed, "I'm the one who's sending you off to fight, not you sending me off to fight."

Mo Liujin let out a long sigh and rested his head on Chu Qingmeng's neck again, muffled and said, "But I'm worried about you. I'm afraid that when I come back, you'll leave me and run away again."

"I promise you I won't do that this time." Chu Qingmeng hugged him back and replied softly. Unfortunately, Chu Qingmeng's only promise was not fulfilled.

Mo Liujin felt relieved. He was afraid that Chu Qingmeng would leave again after finally returning alive. Then he heard Chu Qingmeng whisper, "Have you had dinner? Do you want to have some with me?" Mo Liujin nodded. After they had dinner, Chu Qingmeng wanted him to go back to his own courtyard to rest for a while, but he was leaving for the expedition the next day, so how could he miss the last bit of time they had together?

After turning off the lights, Chu Qingmeng rested her head on his arm, deliberately turning her back to him, hoping he'd sleep early. But there was no way Mo Liujin would let her go. He pulled her into his arms again, inhaling the scent of her neck. He was burning with desire, but he also had to consider whether her injuries could withstand it. So, for the first time ever, he asked, "Is it okay?"

Chu Qingmeng sighed and nodded slightly.

The room was filled with springtime that night, and they fell into a deep sleep just as the sky was about to light up. The next morning, Mo Liujin got up carefully, covered her with a blanket, and was about to get dressed when Chu Qingmeng woke up and got up drowsily. Mo Liujin told her to sleep a little longer and not to send him out, but Chu Qingmeng refused. He took out a bulletproof vest from his backpack and taught him how to put it on, repeatedly reminding him to wear it close to his body when he went out and not to think it was too heavy, especially on the battlefield, he must never take it off.

Mo Liujin nodded, and looking at her dressing him, he couldn't help but ask again, "Qingmeng, if I come back, will you marry me?"

Chu Qingmeng paused while tying his belt, then continued tying it without looking up. "Mo Liujin, I'm only your legal wife, not your concubine. And if you marry me, you can never take a concubine. If you marry me, you'll need to give me a divorce letter first. If you ever marry someone else, I'll take the divorce letter and leave you. Think this over before you answer me."

Mo Liujin's smile grew even more intense. "I agree to your request. I will do whatever you say. As long as you don't regret it."

"Okay." She helped him tie his belt and looked up at him with a smile.

Mo Liujin picked her up and placed her back on the couch, letting her sleep a little longer. He needed to return to the palace to change into his battle robes. Chu Qingmeng nodded and watched him leave. After he left, she began to dress quietly. Sitting at the dressing table, she picked up the box of medicine, hesitated for a moment, and then put it back. "Let's leave it to fate," Chu Qingmeng thought. She called Chunhe to help her dress.

At the beginning of the morning hour, the army was fully assembled and stationed at the city gates. Chu Qingmeng and Mu Lingxue joined the farewell procession. Chun and Xiazhi protected Chu Qingmeng, while Qiushou and Dongzang protected Mu Lingxue. After the emperor bid farewell to the army on the city wall, the army began to assemble and set off.

Looking at Mo Liujin, dressed in military uniform and riding on his horse, Chu Qingmeng was filled with emotion. As expected, the young general in his battle robes looked even more handsome. Mo Liujin smiled at her, and seeing that her eyes were full of him and she had agreed to marry him, his heart was now filled with only happiness and the pain of separation.
