Moreover, their fault zone is relatively long, at 150 meters, and is about 300 meters long along the tunnel axis, and is a water-rich stratum. Under such circumstances, the project department uses a double-shield tunnel boring machine for construction, but under this situation, they can still make progress of 45 meters per day. Their experience has also accumulated relatively rich experience in excavation in similar strata.

The challenges we face in constructing the West Tianshan Long Tunnel are no less severe than theirs, and even greater. Why? Our tunnel may ultimately exceed 15 kilometers in length, traversing the entire West Tianshan Mountains in a straight line. Our current technology may not be cutting-edge, not even our shield machine. However, our use of side-level pilot tunneling technology has significantly reduced the risks we face.
