Diablo traveled through time and became a necromancer
Chapter 274 They are here again!
Emma, the sentry commander, a resolute warrior, had red eyes, yet she fought back tears. She walked over to Irene, her pale, tear-stained face and the blood-soaked bandages on her back. Her lips trembled slightly. She reached out, her movements stiff, yet incredibly gentle, she brushed away the tear-stained hair from Irene's forehead, her fingertips trembling imperceptibly.
"It's okay... Irene..." Emma's voice was hoarse and low, with the tone of a sister trying to comfort but unable to hide her heartache. "The captain and the others... will be proud of you." She gently patted Irene's shoulder and turned her gaze to the body covered in white cloth on the ground. Her eyes instantly became extremely sharp and cold. "Rogge will remember their vengeance."
Irene threw herself into her sister's arms, her suppressed sobs finally bursting out, her shoulders shaking violently. Emma hugged her sister tightly, her chin resting on the top of Irene's head, her teeth clenched, her jawline as sharp as a knife.
Wu Ye stood aside, silently watching the embracing sisters. He clutched the dark red token tightly in his hand, its cold touch burning his palm. The twisted evil eye emblem on the token seemed to grin silently in the dim light. Nicholas's warning echoed in his ears again—"The waters of Westmarch are deep."
"Commander Emma," Wu Ye's voice broke the oppressive silence with an unquestionable determination. "The situation at the outpost needs to be reported to Kasha immediately. This token and Irene's testimony are key evidence." He paused, his eyes sweeping over his comrades covered in white cloth on the ground. "They... also need to go home."
Emma took a deep breath, gently released Irene, and shielded her behind her. She straightened her back, her gaze regaining the sharpness and composure of a commander, though deep within them, a sliver of deep sorrow and hatred surged like molten lava. "I understand. The sentries will step up their vigilance and handle the aftermath. You..." Her gaze fell on Wu Ye and Skeleton Brother, a subtle hint of gratitude and entrustment in her voice. "Be careful. Thorien's minions... will not give up."
Wu Ye nodded heavily. He took one last look at the bodies of his three comrades, draped in white cloth. Then he looked at Irene, who clung to her sister, tears in her eyes, but struggled to stand upright. He clutched the token tightly and turned to sit on a stone bench nearby.
Skeleton Brother followed silently, his tall skeleton like the most silent guard, and the dark blue soul fire burned calmly in the dim morning light.
The sea breeze carried a salty smell, blowing up the sand, as if everything that had happened before had no effect on the scenery before it.
Wu Ye didn't leave immediately. He sat on the cold stone bench, his back against the rough wooden sentry wall, exhaustion washing over him like a tide. A day and night of fighting, fleeing, and the grief that ripped through his bones had stretched his mind and body to their limits. He needed rest, even if only for a moment.
Skeleton Brother stood at his side like a silent sentinel, his dark blue soul fire vigilantly scanning the outpost. Commander Emma didn't disturb them, but arranged for someone to bring them clean water, food, and bandages. Wu Ye briefly treated the burn marks on his arms and legs from the shadow lightning.
Irene was taken by her sister, Emma, to the relatively clean barracks inside the outpost to treat her wounds and rest. The next morning, as the salty sea breeze blew through the outpost again, Irene's face remained pale, but her eyes had regained some of their spirit. However, the deep sadness was like a brand, difficult to erase.
"Elder Wu Ye," Commander Emma approached with two fully-armed Rogue warriors. Behind her followed a figure, his hands shackled in specially crafted rune shackles and covered with a black hood. The figure was hunched over, dressed in a tattered black robe. A faint aura of fel energy emanated from him. Despite being restrained, he exuded a disturbing chill.
"This is the 'Tongue' we captured while clearing the perimeter of the battlefield." Emma's voice was filled with cold murderous intent. "He hid in a crevice in the reef, trying to conceal his presence with some kind of sorcery, but was still discovered by our detection array. Judging from the tokens found on him and his sporadic confessions, he holds a high position in Thorien's cult, at least a 'Crow' responsible for delivering secret orders."
Wu Ye's gaze fell on the hooded figure, and his brows furrowed slightly. This was indeed an unexpected gain, and the only valuable "trophy" of this trip.
"Erin's injuries require rest, but the conditions at the outpost are limited and unsafe." Emma looked at her sister, with reluctance and worry in her eyes, but more of determination.
"This prisoner must also be sent back to Rogge as soon as possible and handed over to Lord Kasha for personal interrogation. What's in his head may be more valuable than that token." She turned her gaze to Wu Ye, entrusting him with an unquestionable trust. "Elder Wu Ye, the task of escorting Irene and this prisoner back to Rogge can only be entrusted to you. I need to be at the outpost to guard against Thorien's retaliation."
Wu Ye stood up and nodded: "Don't worry."
He looked at Irene, "Can you still hold on?"
Irene bit her lip and nodded vigorously: "Yes! I want to... see this bastard being brought before Lord Kasha with my own eyes!" Her gaze was like a poisoned dagger, stabbing fiercely at the blindfolded prisoner.
Skull Brother silently walked behind the prisoner and clasped his bone-covered palms around his shoulders like a clamp. The prisoner's body stiffened noticeably, and he let out a suppressed groan.
Emma hugged Irene one last time, whispered a few words in her ear, and then patted her back vigorously: "Go, sister. Be careful on the road."
Wu Ye took a specially crafted leather collar with a confinement rune from Emma and personally placed it around the captive's neck. The spikes on the inside of the collar pierced the captive's skin, causing him to groan in pain again. The runes on the collar illuminated slightly, suppressing the remaining fel energy within him.
"Let's go." Wu Ye said concisely.
Brother Skeleton led the captives in front, followed closely by Wu Ye and Irene, as they once again set out on the road to Rogge Camp. This time, with the addition of a prisoner emitting a chilling aura, the atmosphere became even more solemn and oppressive.
The captive, his head covered, stumbled, but Skeleton Brother's strength prevented him from breaking free. Irene's gaze remained fixed on the figure, the hatred in her eyes almost tangible. Wu Ye remained on high alert, his mental awareness like an invisible spiderweb, constantly enveloping his surroundings, wary of any possible attack.
The sea breeze still howled, stirring up the dust. The journey home was long. Carrying the remains of the fallen, escorting the enemy's messengers, and burdened with the weight of the truth, they moved forward resolutely toward Rogge. The storm might have subsided temporarily, but the seeds of hatred had been sown, and a greater vortex awaited them ahead.
The sea breeze, carrying salt and sand, lashed my face like a cold whip.
The return journey was even more arduous than the journey there. Skull Brother led the hooded, black-robed captive, his bone-covered palms clamping like iron clamps around his shoulder blades. Every time the captive stumbled, the force intensified, drawing a suppressed groan of pain.
Irene followed closely beside Wu Ye. The wound on her back was aching slightly from the bumpy ride, making her face pale, but she clenched her teeth, her eyes like poisoned ice cones, fixed on the prisoner's hunched back, as if she wanted to torture him to death with her eyes.
Wu Ye's mind was like a taut bowstring, his perception like an invisible spiderweb, spreading out to its fullest extent, covering this perilous coastline. He held the bone staff lowered slightly in his hand, its tip shrouded in a faint, pale mist, ready to respond to any emergency. The cold edges of the token pressed against his palm, the mark of the evil eye burning silently.
Just half a day after leaving the outpost, when the team passed through a reef area that had been eroded into strange shapes by the sea breeze, something strange happened!
"Om-!"
An invisible, icy wave of extreme malice instantly spread out like ripples on water! Wu Ye, Irene, and even Brother Skeleton froze in their tracks! It was as if countless icy tentacles were wrapping around them, attempting to forcibly drain their physical and mental strength! Irene groaned, her face instantly turning pale as paper, and she could barely stand.
Wu Ye felt that the flow of magic power in his body became sluggish and sticky!
Aura of blasphemy! And it's even purer and more sinister than the one emanated by the Hand of the Rot Nest! The goal is clear - suppress them, especially the power of Skeleton Brother!
"Be careful!" Wu Yeli shouted, slamming his staff down on the ground! "Bone Wall!"
"Boom!" Two white walls made up of thick bones rose from the ground in an instant, blocking the team on the left and right, protecting everyone in the middle!
Almost at the moment the bone wall was formed!
"Whoosh whoosh—!"
"Whoosh whoosh-!"
Sharp, air-piercing sounds echoed from all directions! From the crevices of the reef on the left, bone spikes shrouded in dark green poisonous mist shot forth! From behind the towering black reef on the right, several poison-tempered crossbow bolts, burning with dark blue will-o'-the-wisp flames, flew in! Their target was the people protected by the bone wall, and—the prisoner held by Brother Skeleton!
Obviously, the other party not only wants to silence the witnesses, but also wants to prevent the prisoners from being taken away!
"Dang, dang, dang! Puff, puff!" Bone spurs and poison arrows slammed into the bone wall! The sizzling sound of corrosion and the explosion of energy annihilation rang out, and the bone wall shook violently, with debris flying everywhere! But the tenacious bone barrier firmly blocked this wave of sneak attacks!
"Roar!" Soul fire surged in the skeleton's eyes, and it slammed the captive to the ground with such force that he let out a scream! At the same time, the rune-shaped giant sword swept out with a sharp scream that tore through the air. Purple-black lightning exploded, accurately splitting away several poisonous arrows that had bypassed the bone wall at a tricky angle!
"Mage! Suppress the high point on the right!" Wu Ye instantly determined the source of the most threatening crossbow arrows! He quickly pointed his staff, targeting the rugged black reef on the right!
Behind them, soul fire suddenly lit up in the empty eye sockets of the three skeleton mages!
"Swoosh!" Icy blue air, like a polar cold current, instantly covered the top of the reef! Sharp ice spikes grew wildly on the rock surface!
"Swish!" Immediately afterwards, the dark green poisonous fog, like a maggot attached to the bone, drilled into the cracks in the rock along the cracks eroded by the ice edges!
"Boom!" The compressed crimson fireball crashed down like a meteorite! It exploded violently on the reeftop, weakened by both frost and poison, its structure brittle! Debris, mixed with ice slag and poisonous smoke, scattering everywhere! Several shrill screams echoed from the rocktop; it was clear that an ambusher had been caught in the blast!
The bone spur attack on the left side slowed down!
"The source of the halo!" Wu Ye's spiritual perception, like the sharpest hound, instantly locked onto the core of the cold, malicious wave—it didn't come from some powerful individual, but from a seemingly ordinary black reef half-buried in the sand on their path ahead! The reef's surface was covered in twisted, blasphemous runes, emitting a faint red light!
"Brother Skeleton! Smash that stone!" Wu Ye pointed at the target, his voice filled with determination!
"Understood!" Skeleton's smooth voice was tinged with cold murderous intent! Ignoring the sporadic bone spurs that attacked from the left (deflected by the bone wall and its own armor), its tall skeleton erupted with terrifying speed, dashing towards the rune reef like an arrow from a bow! The greatsword was raised high, and the entwined purple-black thunder emitted a piercing scream!
"Stop it!" A hoarse, distorted voice echoed from behind the reef! Three figures clad in tattered black robes suddenly burst out, holding bone staffs wrapped in a foul black light. Three solid shadow arrows, with a piercing scream, shot towards Skeleton Brother's back! At the same time, the ground surged with gravel, and two blasphemous puppets made of rotting flesh and broken bones broke out of the ground, waving their claws and pouncing at Skeleton Brother!
"Don't even think about it!" Wu Ye's eyes flashed with coldness! He swept his staff across, "Bone Spear!!"
"Swish! Swish! Swish!" Three pale bone spears tore through the air, arriving first and precisely intercepting the three shadow arrows on their trajectory! The bone spears and shadow arrows collided violently in the air, exploding into balls of foul energy!
The Skeleton Brother ignored the interception and the puppets that rushed towards him! He had only one goal - the source of the blasphemous aura!
"broken!"
The giant sword, wrapped in tremendous thunder, slashed fiercely on the black reef engraved with runes!
“Boom—Crack!!!”
Dazzling lightning flashed! The solid rock shattered under the mighty sword imbued with the power of chaos! Countless rubble inscribed with blasphemous runes scattering in all directions! The suffocating, icy, draining feeling that enveloped the entire arena vanished in an instant, like a severed rope!
"Ah!" The three black-robed cultists who cast the spell were attacked by the halo, and they groaned at the same time and froze in their movements!
It was at the moment when the halo was broken!
"Zi la——!"
A ghostly flash of pale lightning struck without warning from the dark clouds hanging overhead! The target wasn't Wu Ye or Brother Skull, but rather—the captive lying on the ground, his head covered! The other party actually had a hidden trump card, aimed squarely at silencing him!
Too fast! The destructive aura contained in this lightning far surpassed the previous attack!
At the critical moment!
"Bone Shield!" Wu Ye's roar and movement were almost synchronized! A pale diamond-shaped shield composed of countless tiny, dense bone fragments instantly solidified above the captive's head!
"boom--!!!"
Pale lightning fiercely struck the bone shield! Violent energy rushed in! The bone shield groaned under the heavy burden, and its surface was instantly covered with spider-web-like cracks, and it was on the verge of collapse!
"Hmph." A calm and cold snort seemed to ring in everyone's ears.
An invisible icy wave with an absolute freezing will came first, like an invisible cold current sweeping across the pale lightning!
