Black Hearted Mage
Chapter 262 Cultivation Resources
In a bustling square, several old nobles stood in front of Caesar's stall. Their expressions were extremely awkward and reluctant, but they still took turns apologizing to Caesar and placing the compensation gold coins on the side of the stall.
As the old nobles left, Caesars smiled with satisfaction. He happily began to count the gold coins, then carefully took out a box, put the gold coins in it, and handed it to Emily to keep.
Kaisas's stall was filled with various items at relatively low prices, attracting many discerning mercenaries to come and choose. These mercenaries were very satisfied with the quality of Kaisas's products and bought what they needed.
By noon, Kaesas's stall had sold over thirty sets of leather armor, a dozen magic steel bows, and hundreds of magic steel arrows. However, he had only sold four or five magician items, as there weren't many magicians out and about. Otherwise, he could have sold a few more.
At this moment, a luxurious carriage from the Duke's Mansion pulled up at the edge of the square. It was pulled by six sturdy black horses, completely black without a single stray hair. Such horses were extremely rare in Fire Maple City.
Seeing this, Caesars packed up his stall early and got on the Duke's carriage with a wine cabinet. The carriage was so spacious that even with four people sitting inside, it would still feel a bit empty.
At the gate of the Duke's Castle's towering and heavy walls, the burly commander of the guards, Delon, stood majestically. His voice was deep and powerful, as if it could penetrate the solid walls, as he directed the guards to quickly and orderly open the two huge gates.
Following Delon's order, the guards worked together to push the heavy door, which made a dull creaking sound. The door slowly opened, revealing the spacious and beautiful garden inside the castle.
A richly decorated carriage slowly approached, its wheels making crisp sounds on the cobblestone road. The carriage was moving at a moderate speed, as if enjoying the tranquil and elegant atmosphere.
When the carriage reached the castle gate, it stopped steadily. At this moment, the old butler appeared in front of the carriage door like a ghost. His movements were swift and skillful. With a slight pull, the carriage door opened silently.
"Old housekeeper, we are old acquaintances, you don't have to be so polite!"
Caesars walked out of the carriage and looked at the somewhat old steward of the Duke's Mansion with a smile.
The old butler bowed slightly and replied respectfully, "Master Magician, this is not courtesy, but the rules of the Duke's Mansion. The door of this carriage can only be opened by Delong and me."
Caesars smiled, seemingly unconcerned about the rule. He walked towards the castle and chatted with the old butler.
"Time flies so fast. More than 20 years have passed in a flash. I still remember when I first came to Huofeng City, I was only six or seven years old!" Kaisas said with emotion.
The old butler smiled and nodded, a glint of memory flashing in his eyes. "Yes, Master Magician, you were just an innocent child back then. Now, you have become a highly respected great magician. How gratifying!"
The two of them talked as they walked into the castle. The corridors inside the castle were spacious and bright, with exquisite paintings and ancient tapestries hanging on the walls, showing the glorious history of the Duke's family.
The Duke's mansion's living room was spacious and magnificent, with a dozen people standing or sitting scattered throughout. These were all Duke Solomon's children and grandchildren. Caesar had met several of the older ones before and had even sold them his own captured leaf snakes. However, Caesar had no memory of the other young nobles.
As Caesars was looking at these people, Duke Solomon noticed his arrival. The Duke smiled and immediately waved to him, "Caesars, come and sit down!"
Seeing this, Caesars hurriedly led Emily to the center of the living room. They slowly sat down on the sofa next to Duke Solomon, while the plump puppy lay obediently beside the sofa.
At that moment, the eyes of Duke Solomon's descendants all fell on the dark red puppy. Their scorching gazes seemed to set the puppy on fire. One of them suddenly asked, "Master Magician, are you selling this fat dog?"
Before he finished speaking, Duke Solomon turned his head sharply and shouted at the person who asked the question: "Bron, you damn idiot!"
"Old Duke, calm down! This just proves they're all very discerning. After all, who doesn't want to take shortcuts? The fat dog can easily defeat a great wizard, but it won't obey any of your commands. If you piss it off, it'll eat you up! This fat dog is quite intelligent and can perfectly understand our conversation. It's just that it simply doesn't bother to pay any attention to you. In its eyes, you're as weak as insects. It doesn't even bother to bare its teeth at you!"
Caesars explained slowly and with a smile on his face, gently patting the plump puppy at his feet as if to comfort it. To instill fear in the young nobles and deter them from provoking it again, Caesars offered half a savage ox leg. However, the bacon on the leg was almost completely depleted.
"You silly dog, lunch will have to wait a while. Just eat some of this to fill your stomach first!" Caesars said gently to the puppy.
The listless puppy, upon smelling the aroma of the cured meat, suddenly became animated, its dull eyes instantly lighting up. It took a closer look and saw that it was the leftover ox leg from yesterday. Without hesitation, it opened its mouth and bit down.
A crisp, thunderous "crack" sounded through the air, sending shivers down my spine. The sound came from the bull's massive thigh bone, snapped right through by a tiny puppy! The bone, several inches thicker than a human arm, was no match for the puppy's sharp teeth.
The puppy seemed very satisfied with the bone. It chewed it with gusto, chewing the meat and bones together. Every time it bit the bone, the sound was so crisp and loud that it seemed to penetrate the eardrums and make the scalp numb.
Caesar quietly observed the descendants of Duke Solomon. He noticed that the faces of several of them had turned as pale as paper, obviously frightened by this horrific scene; the veins on the foreheads of several others were throbbing, showing their extreme tension and fear.
Caesar's gaze finally fell on Duke Solomon. He hesitated for a moment, then asked softly, "Old Duke, are we going to fight?"
Duke Solomon frowned slightly, seemingly unsurprised by Caesar's question. He was silent for a moment, then slowly said, "Caesar, I knew I couldn't hide this from you. Come, let's go to the small living room and talk."
After saying this, Duke Solomon stood up, his movements somewhat slow, as if he was carrying a heavy burden. He looked at his children and grandchildren, sighed helplessly, and then turned and walked towards the back of the living room.
Before leaving, Caesars reminded Emily, "Emily, just stay here with Fatty Dog. You can eat as much of the snacks as you want. If you can't finish them, take them away. Don't leave anything behind. If anyone bullies you, let Fatty Dog bite them!"
"Okay, brother!"
In the small living room behind the living room, Duke Solomon gestured for Caesars to sit down.
"Kaisas, the Empire's war resources are almost ready, but we're not planning to launch a war just yet. This is just revenge for the Roland Empire. They killed many people in Fire Maple City a few years ago. This is an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth!"
"So that's what happened!"
Caesars felt his joy was in vain. He continued, "Old Duke, I have two pieces of news for you. The first is that over two hundred high-ranking assassins from the Church of Saint Laurent have died in the Violet Alliance, along with over a hundred archers and ten magicians. The second piece of news is that Sandro has been seriously injured and will take four or five years to recover!"
"This is truly great news!" Solomon exclaimed excitedly, his already wrinkled face now appearing even more distorted by his smile. However, amidst his joy, a trace of doubt welled up in his heart: "How could Eagle Eye have detected nothing at all?"
Caesars seemed to see through Solomon's thoughts. He quickly explained, "Your Excellency, this incident happened five years ago, quite some time ago. Perhaps the Eagle Eye spies hadn't started paying attention to this information at the time. Furthermore, the members of the Saint Laurent Church have provoked the Thorn Flower Trading Company, which is quite a problem. Their members will naturally be secretly executed to prevent future trouble."
Solomon nodded and said thoughtfully, "I see. It happened five years ago... But five years is really nothing when it comes to training a high-level professional. After all, it takes at least fifteen years to train a high-level professional!"
He paused and continued, "This is definitely great news! I must inform Carlos immediately and let him know the good news." Duke Solomon said as he nodded to the old butler standing beside him.
The old butler understood, bowed slightly, and then quietly left the small reception room. The tacit understanding between him and Duke Solomon was beyond words; a simple nod and bow were enough to convey each other's intentions.
Caesars and Solomon were chatting, and before a quarter of an hour had passed, a figure in black leather armor appeared in the small reception room like a ghost.
The man who came was the spy chief, exuding a mysterious and cold aura. His steps were light, as if blending into the darkness, making it difficult to detect his arrival.
"Solomon," the spy chief's voice was slightly hoarse, revealing a hint of excitement, "This news should be true. About five years ago, a group of people from the Church of Saint Laurent suddenly left, and no one has returned since then!"
There was certainty in his words, as if he was completely sure of the news.
However, Caesars was somewhat dissatisfied with the spy chief's attitude. He frowned, looking at the skinny old man in leather armor, and thought to himself, "This old guy always wears a mask. Does he have some hidden secret?"
An urge surged in Caesar's heart, wanting to take off the other person's mask and see what he looked like.
"Lord Carlos," Caesars said with a hint of displeasure in his tone, "I personally participated in this execution and witnessed the entire process. It's so disappointing that you actually doubt the news I brought you!"
His voice revealed his distrust of the spy chief, as if he felt that his efforts were being underestimated.
The spy chief's expression changed slightly when he heard Caesar's words, but he quickly regained his composure. His eyes, sharp as a hawk's, stared at Caesar and said, "Caesar, you should have told us this news right away!"
There was a hint of dissatisfaction in the spy chief's tone, and he was obviously a little unhappy with Caesar's delay.
Caesars shrugged helplessly and explained, "Lord Carlos, I also wanted to pass on the news to you as soon as possible, but I was in a coma for almost five years and there was no chance at all!"
"Caesars, are you seriously injured?" Carlos looked at Caesars in front of him with concern. He saw that his face was rosy and his voice was full of energy. He didn't look like he was seriously injured.
The corners of Caesar's mouth rose slightly, revealing a disdainful smile, "Lord Carlos, you really don't wish me well. I've just been meditating in a coma for five years!" There was a hint of dissatisfaction in his tone, as if he didn't appreciate Carlos' concern.
Carlos widened his eyes and looked at Caesar with suspicion, "Meditate continuously for five years? How is that possible?" His voice was full of disbelief.
Caesars rolled his eyes at Carlos and said, "What's impossible? There is a magic circle that provides me with an endless supply of magic power!" He said it lightly, as if it was not a big deal.
Hearing Caesar's words, Carlos was secretly surprised. He knew the power of the magic circle, but meditating within it for five consecutive years without interruption was something not everyone could achieve. Even an ordinary great magician, even if they practiced diligently, would need about fifteen years to reach Caesar's current level.
"Caesar, you are about to be promoted, right?" the spy chief asked tentatively.
"It's too early! My cultivation resources have been exhausted, so I can only come to Fire Maple City to buy magic crystals. You all know that the magic crystals in the Red Stone Kingdom are monopolized by major forces. It's very difficult for me to buy more!"
"Kaisas, your demand for magic crystals is too great. Last time, you bought magic crystals worth millions of gold coins, causing the price of magic crystals in Fire Maple City to rise!"
"Master Carlos, I bought more this time!"
