Black Hearted Mage

Chapter 245: Fat Dog's Mutation

Kaisas took out some food from his space ring and placed it in the puppy's magic steel bowl. The food didn't seem much, only half a bowl, and it was all meat.

The puppy was immediately unhappy when he saw the food. He stared at Caesar with his eyes wide open, and kept making humming sounds, as if expressing his dissatisfaction with the amount of food.

"You idiot!" Caesars cursed angrily at him. "Don't be so ungrateful! The bad guys are coming, and you're so full of food, how can you help Master Caesars kill the enemies? When we're done, I promise to make sure you're so full that you're dragging on the ground!"

Hearing Caesar's scolding, the puppy blinked its round eyes, as if it understood its master's meaning. It hesitated for a moment, but finally buried its head in the magic steel bowl and began to devour the food voraciously.

Puppies eat very quickly, almost devouring everything in their path. They don't care about the taste or texture of the food at all, and will never chew it as long as they can swallow it directly.

After a while, the puppy had eaten up half the bowl of meat. However, it was obviously not full and its stomach still felt a little empty.

"Have some dessert, you idiot!" Caesars said with a smile, looking at the puppy's eager expression. "But remember, when you work later, you have to work hard!"

As he spoke, Caesars took out a large piece of cheese with honey from his pocket and gently placed it in the magic steel bowl.

As soon as the cheese fell into the bowl, the puppy's eyes lit up and its short, dark red tail swayed wildly like a windmill, showing that it was very satisfied with the dessert.

"Kaisas, I'm going to keep five people alive for interrogation. And remember one thing: the people from the Saint Laurent Empire are likely carrying a lot of alchemical bombs and poisons. Strike quickly, accurately, and ruthlessly. Don't give them any chance to resist!"

Orcus stood there, his eyes fixed on the Nighthawk in the sky. The Nighthawk circled high in the sky, its flight path gradually pointing towards the ambush site, which meant that the team was approaching.

Orcus wore a spider silk robe that shimmered faintly in the moonlight, seemingly blending in with his surroundings. With graceful and swift movements, he raised his hand and gently waved it in the direction of the Shadow Warriors, a simple signal for them to prepare for action.

The elves swiftly rode their shadow leopards, quickly searching for hidden locations. Their movements were light and silent, as if blending into the darkness. On the other side of the road lay the towering Yellowstone Mountains, a natural barrier that trapped the Saint Laurent Empire's team in this area, leaving them with no way to retreat.

Orcus's silhouette gradually grew hazy in the moonlight, as if shrouded by a veil. His form gradually faded, blending into the night. The process was incredibly swift; in less than two breaths, he had completely vanished from view, entering stealth mode.

Orcus's stealth skills are unparalleled, not achieved overnight, but the result of years of continuous practice. Long ago, Orcus was also an elven shadow warrior, his strength was astonishing.

The name "Shadow Warrior" comes from the extremely powerful skill they possess: Shadow Strike. This skill is similar to a magician's Blink, but even more powerful. As long as a Shadow Warrior's physical strength is sufficient, they can perform Shadow Strike repeatedly, instantly traversing space and appearing where their enemies least expect. However, Blink has a time limit, preventing its arbitrariness from being as flexible as Shadow Strike.

The elves' tiers for assassins are relatively straightforward, unlike the complex tiers used by humans. Initially, they are called Elven Assassins. As they further increase their strength and master specific skills, they advance to Spellbreakers. Furthermore, once they learn the Shadow Strike skill, they advance to Shadow Warriors.

Faced with the situation, Caesars had no choice but to settle for the next best thing. He quickly hid behind a large tree and cast an invisibility spell to conceal himself. Meanwhile, the puppy mimicked Caesars's movements, twisting its plump body and nimbly burrowing into the thick pile of fallen leaves, as if it were an innate skill.

Just then, the crisp sound of horse hooves echoed on the road not far away. In the hazy night, three covered carriages could be vaguely seen slowly approaching. The carriages were covered with black animal hides, and the wood used for the wheels and carriage boards looked brand new.

Under the cover of darkness, the carriage advanced slowly and at a leisurely pace. However, for an ordinary mercenary group, this behavior seemed somewhat unusual. After all, visibility was poor at night, and road conditions were unreliable. A carriage traveling in such conditions could easily overturn or suffer an accident. Normally, a normal mercenary group would choose to camp and rest at this time, rather than risk such a dangerous night journey.

The first carriage suddenly encountered a violent bump, and the wheels seemed to have fallen into a big pit. With a heart-pounding crash, the sturdy wooden wheels broke instantly.

The carriage lost its support and, as if shoved by an invisible hand, toppled sideways. The passengers were caught off guard and screamed in terror at the sudden change. Two of the unfortunate individuals were violently thrown from the carriage.

The horses pulling the cart were also frightened by this scene. They neighed and tried to break free from the reins and escape from this terrible place.

However, all of this was within the elves' expectations. This meticulously designed trap was their signal to strike. The shadow warriors had already silently approached their target, stalking the darkness like ghosts, waiting for the perfect moment to strike.

Caesars, holding the Staff of Death, loomed in the night. He quickly recast his invisibility spell, blending completely into his surroundings. His mission was to kill the occupants of the first carriage.

"Damn it, how could there be such a big hole on the road! The wooden wheel is broken!" The person who fell outside the carriage cursed loudly, his voice full of fear and anger.

However, before he could finish his curse, a shadowy arrow, gleaming faintly like lightning, instantly pierced his throat. The immense force of the impact caused his body to tremble violently, and the wound in his throat was torn horribly. Blood gushed out of the bone-riddled wound like a fountain.

At the same time, another shadowy arrow followed suit and struck another man. This arrow accurately pierced his leather armor and pierced his heart. In an instant, blood gushed out from his heart, forming a shocking column of blood.

The elven shadow warriors began their silent assassination, their strength overwhelming the Saint Roland Empire's men. They struck in the same spot as Caesars, but their tactics were even more sophisticated, using their Law-Breaking Blades to directly sever their targets' cervical vertebrae. There were no screams, no gushing blood.

The plump puppy rushed towards the carriage like a cannonball, its eyes gleaming with joy, as if the carriage was filled with endless delicacies waiting for it to enjoy, and it ran recklessly.

Because of the noise Caesars made while killing his enemies, the people in the carriages had clearly noticed something was wrong and rushed out. However, their vigilance didn't cause Caesar much trouble. Caesars rained down shadow arrows on the leather-armored figures. Before they could even react, they were struck by the arrows and fell to the ground screaming in pain.

The puppy bypassed the carriage and rushed directly to the other side. In an instant, a shrill scream came from the other side of the carriage, which made people shudder.

No one emerged from the carriage, so Caesars quickly quickened his pace, sprinting towards it. When he reached it, the puppies were frantically tearing at someone's neck, blood splattering everywhere. On the ground lay two bodies, their heads severed from their bodies. The scene was horrific and bloody.

Caesars calmed himself and began to examine the carriage carefully. He noticed that the fur cover had been neatly slashed open by a sharp blade, just enough for people to enter and exit freely. Caesars carefully climbed in to take a look and immediately began to count the bodies inside. He soon noticed something amiss—the carriage seemed a little undermanned, and the driver, who had fallen to the ground, was nowhere to be seen.

Caesars cursed softly, "Damn it! Someone must have taken advantage of the chaos and escaped!"

His eyes fell on the puppy, and suddenly an idea struck him. He shouted at it, "You damn dog, someone's escaped. If you can find them, I'll give you half a bowl of cream!"

Caesars carefully examined the bodies on the ground, feeling somewhat surprised. He discovered that the majority of those he had killed were archers, while there were only two assassins. Furthermore, the number of bodies seemed to be fewer than he had expected, only nine in total.

Meanwhile, the adorable puppy excitedly stuck out its tongue. Its favorite food was buttermilk, the first sweet treat it had tasted since hatching from its egg. When it heard there was still half a basin of buttermilk waiting for it to enjoy, nearly all of the high-level magic patterns on its body glowed a brilliant red.

The puppy howled with excitement and ran towards the Yellowstone Mountains impatiently. It was so fast, like a gust of wind, and disappeared from Caesar's sight in the blink of an eye.

Seeing this, Caesars hurriedly quickened his pace, following closely behind the puppy. He thought to himself, "These Saint Laurent assassins are truly cunning! They didn't flee to the forest like most people, but instead chose to flee to the Yellowstone Mountains. Clearly, they're hoping to use the mountain's terrain and the moonlight's shadows to conceal their whereabouts."

Caesars heard a loud crash, the sound of bones breaking, followed by a miserable cry. A figure in black leather armor clutched its crotch and wailed. The puppy pounced, and with a crisp "crack," the assassin's neck was severed.

In that breathtaking moment, two inky black blades pierced the puppy with lightning-fast speed. Like messengers from hell, they carried an endless killing intent and determination that sent shivers down one's spine.

At the same moment, two assassins in black leather armor suddenly emerged from the darkness like ghosts. Their movements were swift and precise, clearly the work of well-trained assassins. These two assassins knew that if they wanted to escape this life-or-death struggle, they had to kill the fat dog before them.

However, what was unexpected was that when the two sharp blades stabbed at the puppy, it was as if they had hit a layer of extremely tough hard armor. No matter how hard the assassins tried, they could not penetrate it at all.

The puppy was obviously stung by the sudden attack, its eyes instantly turned blood red. It opened its mouth full of fangs and blood, and let out a loud angry howl.

At this moment, one of the assassins saw this and quickly changed the direction of his attack. The dagger in his hand, like a venomous snake, stabbed the puppy's "chrysanthemum" with astonishing speed! This attack was extremely insidious, completely unexpected and impossible to defend against.

Just as the puppy was about to turn around to deal with the sudden attack, the other assassin's dagger followed closely behind, like a flash of black lightning, piercing straight into its eyes! The speed of this attack and the angle were so tricky that it was simply unbelievable, leaving the puppy no time to react.

Caesars stood not far away, witnessing this thrilling scene, his heart tightening. His heart was burning with anxiety, and he ran desperately towards the puppy. However, despite his best efforts, the distance between him and the puppy was still far beyond the range of his spell.

The plump puppy suddenly seemed frightened by something, ducking its head and tucking its tail between its legs, the entire movement flowing smoothly. At that moment, two gleaming blades came darting towards it like lightning, striking it instantly.

In an instant, intense pain surged through the puppy's body like a tide, which triggered an unexpected change - the originally dull high-level magic patterns on its body suddenly burst into a dazzling red light under the stimulation of severe pain, as if boiling magma was flowing under its fur.

The two assassins were clearly shocked by this scene. They had originally thought that this blow was enough to kill them, but they had not expected this seemingly ordinary puppy to be so tenacious. Just as they were about to turn around and flee the scene, a row of bloody sharp fangs suddenly appeared before their eyes. Immediately afterwards, a powerful force suddenly hit their heads, causing them to lose consciousness instantly.

Caesars watched in amazement as the puppy's size suddenly increased several times in a single instant. Originally small and adorable, it had become incredibly large, its maw terrifying. It effortlessly bit off the assassin's head and swallowed it like candy.

The puppy did not give up, it quickly turned around, facing the open space at the foot of the cliff, and burst into a roar that shook the earth. The roar was so deafening that it seemed as if the entire Yellowstone Mountains were shaking.

Accompanied by roars, two figures in leather armor appeared in Caesar's sight. Clearly, their stealth was completely broken by the puppy's roar. Seeing this, Caesar unleashed his magic without hesitation, sending shadow bolts hurtling towards the two assassins like meteors.

However, something surprising happened again. Just as the shadow arrows were about to hit the assassins, the two assassins suddenly collapsed to the ground as if all their strength had been drained away, unable to even dodge.
