Movie Variety Show: Starting from a New World

On the outskirts of Xushui in J Province, at the garrison of a unit of the Beiping Military Region, two sentries are on guard duty.

"Old Zhang, are you really not going to become a volunteer soldier?" a new recruit asked the veteran.

"I'm not going anywhere else. My family needs me to go back! My parents are getting old, and my sisters are all married. They can't be left without someone to take care of them!" the veteran, called Old Zhang, said helplessly.

"Sigh, we're the closest people in our class, you take the best care of me! Now that you're gone, I feel like there's no point in being here anymore! If I didn't have two more years, I would have just retired this year too!" the new recruit said with a bitter expression.

“Xiao Wang, don’t be upset! Everyone goes through this! You still have two years left in your service. If you have the chance to become a volunteer soldier, you must do so. After all, your family is from the countryside, and it’s not easy for you to join the army! Besides, you have two younger brothers and sisters at home, and you don’t need to take care of them. What’s the rush?” Old Zhang said with a smile.

"I can't stand it either. Everything else is fine, but these veterans are always ordering me around. I can't stand it at all!" the new recruit called Xiao Wang said angrily.

"Bang!" A gunshot interrupted Old Zhang's words.

Before Xiao Wang could react to seeing Lao Zhang lying on the ground, another gunshot rang out.

"Bang!" Xiao Wang fell to the ground immediately after the gunshot.

In the darkness, Bai Baoshan, carrying a Type 56 rifle, strode over to Lao Zhang's side, grabbed the Type 81 rifle slung over his shoulder, snatched the magazine from his body, and ran away without looking back.

Bai Baoshan had only been running for less than a minute when seven or eight soldiers rushed out of the camp. Seeing Lao Zhang and Xiao Wang lying on the ground, they immediately went forward to check on them.

Meanwhile, Bai Baoshan quickly ran back to the abandoned brick kiln where he had rested, wrapped the two rifles in a tarpaulin, and buried them in the pit he had dug earlier.

Then he ran to another spot, dug a small pit, and threw the magazine and bullets into it. He then took off his old military uniform, put on the clothes he had worn when he arrived, wrapped the uniform up, and placed it in the pit as well. After filling the pit with soil, he left the abandoned brick kiln and headed towards the highway.

Meanwhile, the police in Xushui had received a notification from the military and began setting up checkpoints on the main routes in and out. Two police officers, four armed police officers, and two soldiers, all fully armed, began checking passing vehicles and pedestrians.

Bai Baoshan boarded a bus on the roadside to return to Beiping.

By this time, it was already getting light, and by the time the car reached the checkpoint, it was around seven in the morning.

"Hey, what's going on? Even the military is out here? What big thing happened?" A passenger sitting in the car asked loudly, full of curiosity.

"I don't know where these bandits came from, but in the early hours of the morning, they attacked the army sentries and stole their guns!" The policeman didn't connect the person who was trying to get information out of him with the person who stole the gun, so he didn't hide anything.

"Oh ho, this guy is too arrogant? He actually dares to steal a gun at the gate of the army?" Bai Baoshan asked, feigning surprise.

"That's right, this guy is incredibly arrogant. All roads in and out of Xushui are now blocked. The higher-ups have given strict orders to find him!" The policeman said, handing the ID card back to Bai Baoshan.

"Yes, we absolutely cannot let someone like that out there. It's far too dangerous!" said a passenger in front of Bai Baoshan.

"Everyone, please keep a close eye out. If you spot any suspicious individuals, be sure to report them to the nearest police station!" the police officer said to the passengers on the bus.

"Don't worry, officer! We'll report anything we find!" the passengers on the bus readily agreed.

"Alright, you can leave after the checks are finished!" After checking everyone's IDs, the police officer said this and got out of the car, continuing to walk towards the cars behind.

Bai Baoshan looked at the police officers getting out of the car and a satisfied smile appeared on his face.

At noon, Bai Baoshan had packed up his things and reappeared in front of Xie Yumin's stall.

"Why are you back today?" Xie Yumin asked curiously.

"Forgot? Don't worry about my business! Just do your own thing!" Bai Baoshan glared at him and said irritably.

"Alright, alright! I won't ask anymore!" Xie Yumin quickly suppressed her curiosity and spoke gently to Bai Baoshan.

For the next few days, Bai Baoshan continued to accompany Xie Yumin to her clothing stall every day, acting as if nothing had happened. As for the guns and ammunition hidden in Xushui? They could only be retrieved after the turmoil had completely subsided; for now, they could only remain buried in that old kiln.

Meanwhile, the Beiping Municipal Bureau was holding a case analysis meeting, attended by cadres at or above the division level from the Beiping Municipal Bureau.
