In the years of famine, I led a comfortable life with my husband
Chapter 15 Act of Justice
Su Zhizhi couldn't contain her excitement. She dug out a bunch of mutated vegetable seeds from the universal capsule, said hello to Xie Chengjin, and ran towards the field.
In order to avoid attracting attention, Su Zhizhi specially found a piece of cloth and carried the vegetable seeds to the field.
The piece of land that Su Zhizhi found was a small piece of wasteland. Although the soil was fertile, no one was willing to spend time and effort to take care of it, and it became abandoned over time. In order to find this place, Su Zhizhi ran almost all over the village.
The place was not big, and Su Zhizhi didn't spend much time pulling out the weeds and loosening the soil. Seeing that the land was a little short of water, she even fetched some water from home.
Su Zhizhi finally breathed a sigh of relief after planting the seeds. In order to avoid confusion, she made a secret mark, which made it easier to distinguish them and to check them every day.
After finishing all this, Su Zhizhi was very tired. She sat down by the field to rest for a while. Seeing that it was getting late, she packed up and went back.
After returning home and having a simple dinner, Su Zhizhi lay down on the bed and fell asleep early. Before going to sleep, she was still thinking about the seeds she had planted that day.
The next morning, Su Zhizhi woke up early. The first thing she did was to go to the field to see what she had achieved yesterday.
Those seeds were indeed mutated. On the second day, Su Zhizhi saw that the seeds he had planted the day before had sprouted. This made Su Zhizhi very excited. He came to the field three times a day to check, for fear that they would be stolen by someone.
Sometimes Xie Chengjin would come with Su Zhizhi to take a look, but he couldn't see any signs of growth and just thought that what Su Zhizhi had planted were just vegetable seedlings.
But Xie Chengjin still discovered a clue. It was the third day after Su Zhizhi started planting. She pulled Xie Chengjin to the field early in the morning. From a distance, they saw that the small piece of land was already full of green vegetables, which were already mature.
But Xie Chengjin remembered clearly that when he came over the day before, the vegetables were clearly just seedlings. Thinking of this, there was something wrong in the look he gave Su Zhizhi.
Su Zhizhi felt someone's gaze fixed on her, which made her feel a chill down her spine. She turned around and met Xie Chengjin's scrutinizing gaze.
Su Zhizhi's heart skipped a beat and she quickly looked around. Seeing that there was no one around, she breathed a sigh of relief.
Walking up to Xie Chengjin, she whispered, "Please put away the vegetables for me first. I'll explain it to you when I get back. This matter can't be explained clearly in a short time. If someone sees it, it will be troublesome."
Xie Chengjin still knew what was important and what was not, so he quickly squatted down and put away the vegetables with Su Zhizhi.
Although the place is not big, it produces a lot of vegetable seeds, which is a bit unexpected.
It took the two of them almost half an hour to put the dishes away.
Su Zhizhi had been bending over for a long time and felt a little tired. Just as she was about to stand up to relieve her back pain, she saw an old man appear not far away.
He was an old man whom Su Zhizhi had seen before. His name was Changsheng. He was old and lonely. Sometimes when they met him in the village, Su Zhizhi would occasionally give him some food, which was considered as a humanitarian act.
But what happened next made Su Zhizhi feel sick. Changsheng was holding a half-grown child in his hand. It was a girl who looked to be about seven or eight years old.
Changsheng looked around and didn't notice Su Zhizhi and Xie Chengjin. He turned around and wanted to touch the girl, clearly wanting to bully her.
Su Zhizhi couldn't bear to see this happen, so she immediately shouted, "What are you doing!"
As she said that, she pulled Xie Chengjin out from the bushes, which scared Changsheng.
Although the little girl was young, she still understood some things. When Changsheng wanted to attack her, she kept struggling, but Changsheng kept covering her mouth, so she couldn't shout.
It was not until Su Zhizhi appeared that the little girl struggled to break free from the shackles of Changsheng, ran behind Su Zhizhi, and burst into tears.
A trace of embarrassment flashed across Changsheng's face. Seeing that the truth was exposed, he wanted to turn around and run away.
But Xie Chengjin reacted faster. He caught up with Changsheng in no time, grabbed him, and brought him in front of Su Zhizhi.
Su Zhizhi comforted the little girl for a few words, then protected her behind her and looked at Changsheng coldly.
"I didn't expect that you are so brave at such an old age. You can even lay your hands on such a young girl. If Xie Chengjin and I were not here today, this girl would have been ruined by you!" Su Zhizhi said coldly, with anger in her voice.
Changsheng was furious when he saw that not only was his good deeds caught, but he was also accused by a yellow-haired girl. "Who do you think you are? How dare you accuse me? You'd better let me go now. Otherwise, if something happens to me, I think your reputation will be bad, right?"
Changsheng's threat was a blatant one, but Su Zhizhi wasn't afraid of him at all. "We can't just let this happen today. I can't make the final decision on this matter. I'll take you to the village chief and let him administer justice!"
After saying that, Su Zhizhi signaled Xie Chengjin to take Changsheng to the village chief's house.
Coincidentally, the village chief was at home today and did not go out, so when he saw Su Zhizhi and Xie Chengjin bringing a girl and Changsheng to his house, the village chief was a little confused.
"Miss Su, what are you doing?" the village chief asked Su Zhizhi, who looked angry.
Su Zhizhi told the village chief what she had just seen in the field. The village chief's face looked a little strange. He sighed heavily and looked at Changsheng with a very strange look.
"I think you are getting older and more confused! She is old enough to be your granddaughter, and you actually did such a shameless thing to her."
The village chief criticized Changsheng a few times with regret.
Changsheng's face turned red, but he couldn't say anything.
The village chief asked someone to invite the girl's family over. After all, the girl was still young and many things still had to be decided by her parents.
The person who went to report the news was very nimble, and in just an incense stick's time, the little girl's parents arrived at the village chief's house.
The village chief told the couple the whole story, but their reactions made Su Zhizhi's heart sink to the bottom.
After hearing this, the two men looked at the little girl with disgust in their eyes, as if she were some dirty thing.
Su Zhizhi also sensed the anxiety of the girl next to her and could feel her small body trembling slightly.
Su Zhizhi moved the person behind her, and the little girl was not so scared anymore.
Her parents rolled their eyes at Su Zhizhi, as if they were displeased with her meddling in other people's business. Then the man grabbed Changsheng by the collar, his face full of calculation.
