Demonic Dao Fanfiction: Protecting You from Worries for a Lifetime
Chapter 8 Leaving Yiling
In the Yiling Jiang family's villa.
Jiang Fengmian sat in the study, looking at his men below, frowning and asking, "Haven't you found it yet?"
"Reporting to the master, we have searched the entire Yiling, but still found no trace of Wei Ying." A subordinate replied respectfully.
Jiang Fengmian's brow furrowed, his heart filled with worry. Ever since he learned of Wei Ying's talent, he had been keeping an eye on the child. Wei Ying's disappearance left him feeling uneasy, fearing that this gifted young man would fall into the hands of someone with ill intentions.
"Continue the search, never give up." Jiang Fengmian ordered in a deep voice, "Also, strengthen Yiling's defenses to prevent any suspicious individuals from entering or leaving."
"Yes, Master." One of them took the order and left.
Jiang Fengmian slowly rose from his seat and walked steadily to the window, gazing out at the shimmering Yiling River. His mind was filled with a whirlwind of thoughts, as restless as the river's waves. He turned to face the crowd and asked, "Did you see any other strangers during your time in Yiling?"
Everyone present glanced at each other, seemingly trying to recall something, before each of them fell into a brief moment of contemplation. After a moment, one of them answered for the group, "Yiling, being near a mass grave, is often plagued by evil spirits. While some cultivators would go there to exorcise them, we had people monitoring the child. Therefore, no cultivator could actually get close to the child, and even if they did, we would cleverly lure them away. As for the mortal merchants, they seemed completely oblivious to these events, as if they hadn't seen them at all. So..."
They didn't finish their words, but the underlying meaning was clear. In Yiling, they had already laid a tight net, making it difficult for cultivators and mortals alike to approach the child.
After listening to their story, Jiang Fengmian fell into deep thought, his brow furrowed in anxiety. After a moment, he raised his head, staring at them sharply, and asked in a serious tone, "When exactly did Wei Ying disappear? Can you give me an exact time?"
"Master, this is what happened," one of them answered hesitantly, "The night before last, when the pedestrians on the street gradually dispersed and everyone returned to their homes to rest, we saw Wei Ying walking back to his shabby little house alone. And then he left. The next morning, after we had breakfast, we found that Wei Ying had not come out of the house. At first, we thought he might have gone somewhere else to beg, so we didn't pay much attention to it. We just sent a few people to look for him everywhere, but we searched every corner of Yiling and still couldn't find any trace of him. It was not until then that we realized that Wei Ying might really be missing." After saying this, he lowered his head, looking very guilty, worried that the master would be furious because of their negligence and even punish them severely.
After hearing their explanation, Jiang Fengmian's expression darkened even further. He stood up from his seat in anger and gave each of them a sharp kick to show his dissatisfaction. Then, he demanded sharply, "So, you don't know the exact time when Wei Ying disappeared, right?"
"Yes, Master." The other person answered tremblingly, his voice full of fear, fearing that the Master would punish them more severely.
Jiang Fengmian's heart burned with rage, but he quickly realized that anger wouldn't solve anything. He took a deep breath, trying to suppress his inner excitement and calm himself down. Then, he slowly asked, "Before Wei Ying disappeared, were there any unusual circumstances in Yiling?"
"There's nothing unusual." The subordinate replied concisely.
Jiang Fengmian's brow furrowed, his heart filled with doubt. Although Yiling was close to the mass graves, it had always been relatively peaceful. Wei Ying's disappearance made him feel uneasy, as if some ominous premonition was lingering in his heart.
"Continue the search and don't miss any clues." Jiang Fengmian ordered in a deep voice.
At this critical moment, one of them seemed a little hesitant. He took a deep breath and then spoke cautiously, "Master, have you ever considered that perhaps it was Baoshan Sanren who took Wei Ying away?"
"That's impossible. If Baoshan Sanren really took Wei Ying away, why would he have delayed it until today?" Jiang Fengmian retorted flatly.
Hearing this, the man continued to ask, "If it wasn't Baoshan Sanren's doing, then how do you explain Wei Ying's disappearance? Sect Master, is it possible that those two didn't actually die?"
Jiang Fengmian suddenly raised his voice and said firmly, "This is absolutely impossible!" He stood up from his chair and paced back and forth in the room in agitation. His originally gentle face was now filled with anger and anxiety.
Wei Changze and Cangse Sanren were poisoned by my Soul-Dispersing Powder, a poison powerful enough to rob them of their spiritual power, rendering them defenseless. Furthermore, I witnessed Wei Changze being stabbed through the heart by a sword, and Cangse being struck by a lightning bolt while trying to save Changze, leaving him nearly dead. Furthermore, while they were powerless to resist, I also deliberately set up a Soul-Dispersing Formation around them, ensuring they could not escape death. Under these circumstances, how could they still be alive? It couldn't possibly be them!
Hearing his men's words, a trace of pain and determination flashed in his eyes. He was unwilling to believe that Cang Se San Ren and Wei Chang Ze were still alive, and even more unwilling to admit the crimes he had committed.
"Master, how do you explain Wei Ying's disappearance?" the subordinate asked cautiously.
Jiang Fengmian took a deep breath, trying to calm his emotions and let the turmoil in his heart gradually subside. He slowly sat back in his chair, his hands gently placed on his knees, and his eyes swept over everyone present with a firm and serious look, as if he wanted to engrave their faces one by one in his heart.
"You all must remember," he said in a deep, powerful voice, "in this world, there are some things you can say, and some things you absolutely cannot say. Think twice before you speak, or you might lose your life."
Jiang Fengmian's words sent a chill down the spine of everyone present. They knew the Sect Master's authority could not be challenged, and they also understood that some secrets were forbidden areas. They all nodded in understanding.
"No matter who took Wei Ying away, we must find him." Jiang Fengmian said firmly, "We can't let the efforts we invested in him go to waste. Keep searching."
Jiang Fengmian pondered for a moment and spoke again, "Continue the search, and notify all Jiang family disciples to keep a close eye on the movements around Yiling. Also, send people to the major families to see if anyone has any trace of Wei Ying. Be careful not to expose yourself."
"Yes, Sect Master." Everyone responded in unison, and then dispersed, each carrying out Jiang Fengmian's orders.
Jiang Fengmian stayed alone in the study, but he couldn't calm down. Wei Ying's disappearance made him feel an unprecedented anxiety.
As night falls, the streets of Yiling are deserted, with only the occasional hoot of an owl breaking the silence.
Chao Yang was completely unaware of what was happening in the Yiling Jiang family's villa. He was still bathing Wei Ying and cooking for him in the inn.
"Okay, Ah Ying, we've been busy for a long time. Now it's time to take a good rest." Chao Yang gently stroked his little face, then carefully pulled the quilt up to ensure that he would not feel the slightest breeze. "Okay, I understand." Wei Ying nodded gently. Although he was used to such care, his hand still tightly grasped a corner of Chao Yang's sleeve, as if seeking a sense of security and dependence.
Chaoyang's gaze fell on Aying. He noticed that Aying's hand was tugging at his sleeve, but he didn't pull it away. Instead, he sat by the bed. Chaoyang knew that Aying was still feeling unwell and was afraid that he would disappear. So, he sat by the bed, quietly watching, until Aying gradually fell asleep. Although Aying was already asleep, Chaoyang did not leave. He simply sat cross-legged on the couch. As usual, he closed his eyes and began to meditate.
The morning sun shone through the window onto Wei Ying's face. He slowly opened his eyes and saw Chao Yang still sitting on the couch. He smiled happily. "Uncle, good morning!" Chao Yang looked at him with a smile and said, "A Ying, good morning! What do you want to eat in the morning?"
"Uncle, I want to eat the porridge you made." Wei Ying's eyes flashed with anticipation.
Chaoyang nodded, smiled, stood up, and while dressing him, he said, "Okay, I'll do it for you right away. Go wash up first."
Wei Ying nodded sharply.
He skillfully used his spiritual sense to deftly wash the rice in space, as if his fingers were gently scrubbing each grain of rice without him even noticing. Then, with precise control of his spiritual sense, he slowly poured an appropriate amount of clean water into the washed rice, ensuring that every grain was evenly covered. After completing these steps, he gently waved his hand and placed the pot firmly on the stove. The entire process seemed effortless, as if it were nothing more than a daily routine for him.
After the porridge was cooked, Chaoyang filled a bowl and carefully placed it in front of Wei Ying. Wei Ying took the bowl and couldn't wait to taste it. A satisfied smile appeared on his face: "Uncle, the porridge you made is really delicious."
Chaoyang looked at Wei Ying, his heart filled with warmth. He knew that this child had become an indispensable part of his life.
"Aying, after eating the porridge, your uncle will take you away from Yiling to see a wider world." Chaoyang said with a smile.
Wei Ying's eyes flashed with surprise, and then he became excited: "Really? Uncle, where are we going?"
"Uncle, I haven't decided yet. How about we go out and play for a while? Chaoyang smiled at Wei Ying, his eyes gleaming with anticipation. "Aying, this way we can go to many places, broaden our horizons, and make more friends. Okay?"
Wei Ying nodded excitedly, his eyes gleaming with a desire for the unknown world. "Okay! Okay! I'll listen to my uncle."
Wei Ying nodded vigorously, his eyes gleaming with longing for the future: "Uncle, I will work hard."
Chaoyang smiled and patted Wei Ying's shoulder: "Okay, Ying, have breakfast first. After that, we will set off."
Wei Ying nodded excitedly, quickly finished the porridge in the bowl, and then stood up impatiently, ready to embark on a new journey.
Chaoyang looked at Wei Ying's energetic figure and felt relieved.
Chaoyang carefully packed everything, then gently lifted Wei Ying into his arms and slowly descended the stairs. They reached the counter and smoothly checked out. However, just as they stepped out of the inn's door, they were greeted by several cultivators standing not far ahead, sternly questioning passersby. Chaoyang couldn't help but wonder: after so many days, why were the Jiang family still so persistent in their search?
One of the monks saw him holding a child tightly and immediately shouted, "Stop! Who are you? Who is this child?"
Chaoyang was infuriated by the Jiang family's shameless appearance. "How dare you!" He narrowed his cold eyes slightly, and his tone was filled with unquestionable majesty: "Why should I announce my identity to you unknown juniors? This child is my closest relative, what does it have to do with you? If the Jiang family is really sincere in looking for someone, why not do it openly and honestly? Why intercept innocent passers-by here and tarnish the family's reputation?" After that, he gently patted Wei Ying in his arms to show comfort, his eyes like torches, scanning the surrounding cultivators who were ready to move, and emitting an aura that could not be ignored, as if he was ready to deal with any unexpected situation at any time.
The surrounding cultivators were intimidated by Chaoyang's sudden aura. They looked at each other in bewilderment, and for a moment, no one dared to step forward. The cultivator who had first launched the attack turned pale, clearly not expecting such a strong response from the other party. He was about to speak again, but was silenced by a look from the older cultivator beside him. The older cultivator stepped forward, his tone relatively calm but somewhat tentative, "Sir, please calm down. We are outer disciples of the Jiang family, ordered to search for the child of the sect master's friend. We mean no harm. However, this child bears a strong resemblance to the person we are looking for, so we hope to forgive any offense. Excuse me, sir, does this child have any characteristics that can prove his identity?"
Chaoyang's expression softened slightly upon hearing this, but he remained wary. He glanced down at Wei Ying in his arms. The little fellow seemed to sense the tension, his hands unconsciously clutching his shirt. Chaoyang sighed softly and spoke slowly, "Characteristics? This child's innocence is his greatest characteristic. As for the person the Jiang family is looking for, I don't know the details, but if there truly is a misunderstanding, it should be resolved properly, rather than harassing innocent people like this."
With that, Chaoyang ignored the crowd's varying expressions and continued forward, Wei Ying in his arms, his steps firm and composed. The surrounding cultivators, though reluctant, were also wary of his imposing presence, and no one dared to intervene. Chaoyang thought to himself: no matter how chaotic the outside world, he would protect Wei Ying and give him a peaceful environment to grow up in. As for the grudges and entanglements, they would eventually be resolved.
As Chaoyang and Wei Ying walked further away, the hustle and bustle behind them faded, leaving only the sound of their determined footsteps echoing across the empty road. Sunlight filtered through the sparse clouds, dappling them and adding a touch of warmth to the somewhat heavy atmosphere.
