Demonic Dao Fanfiction: Protecting You from Worries for a Lifetime
Chapter 4 Yiling City
Chaoyang held Wei Ying in his arms carefully, took out one of his coats from the space, and put it on Wei Ying, seeing Wei Ying covered tightly.
"Aying, you look very tired. Why don't you lie on your uncle's shoulder and rest for a while!" Wei Ying nodded, a trace of fatigue flashed in his eyes, but he still tried to open his eyes wide, as if he still couldn't believe that he had an uncle.
Chaoyang patted his back gently and said softly, "Don't worry, uncle will take good care of you."
In the darkness of the night, Chaoyang carried Wei Ying and walked towards the nearest town.
And Wei Ying fell asleep in Chaoyang's arms under Chaoyang's careful care. Chaoyang looked at the sleeping child in his arms, and a warm feeling surged in his heart.
Looking at the city ahead, this must be Yiling City, where Wei Ying had been wandering. Looking at the short city walls, Chaoyang couldn't help but wonder: How had Wei Ying managed to stay in Yiling City for five years? There was also a patriarch of an aristocratic family who spent five years searching for a child, but his memories showed that Yiling was very close to Yunmeng. It seemed that there was something fishy about this Jiang Zongzhu.
It wasn't that he was suspicious, but it all seemed a little illogical. Chaoyang decided to stay in Yiling City for a while and investigate carefully to understand this world.
The streets of Yiling City were bustling with people. Chaoyang, holding Wei Ying, carefully made his way through the crowd. He noticed that the architectural style of Yiling City was different from the world he was familiar with. The houses here were more ancient, and the shops lining the streets looked a bit old.
The moment Chaoyang stepped into Yiling City, he was filled with even more doubts. From his powerful senses, Yiling City didn't seem particularly large; it could even be considered a relatively small city. Yet, in such a modest place, it took the head of an aristocratic family five years to finally find a child. What on earth was going on?
As far as he could remember, Ah Ying had been living on the streets since he was four, and wasn't brought back to the Jiang family until he was nine. Thinking back on it was truly hilarious. Yiling might be small, but finding just one child took five years! Even more intriguing, Jiang Fengmian might have seen Ah Ying before he was four. So, how did he recognize Ah Ying so instantly in Yiling? After all, he didn't know what Ah Ying looked like at the time. Unless he had always known Ah Ying was in Yiling and had monitored his wandering for five years. Just imagine, how could a little beggar, starving and cold, bitten by a dog, driven away, without a place to wash or change clothes, covered in dirt and unrecognizable, be easily recognized?
In the Jiang family, Ah Ying received no monthly allowance and was often referred to as the son of a servant. Whenever Ah Ying inquired about his parents, he was punished with a purple lightning whip. Furthermore, whenever his fellow disciples played together, Ah Ying was the only one to be punished. Furthermore, the posthumous reputations of Wei Changze and his wife, and Ah Ying's position as the chief disciple, were puzzling. After all, how could a senior sister be above the chief disciple? The Yunmeng Jiang family, a family that neither resembled an aristocratic family nor a sect, was truly incomprehensible and fraught with myriad problems.
Chaoyang thought to himself that the Jiang family's affairs seemed much more complicated than they appeared on the surface.
Chaoyang carried Wei Ying in his arms as they entered Yiling City. The city was brightly lit, and the streets bustled with people. Chaoyang carefully made his way through the crowd, fearing to disturb the child in his arms.
After some searching, he finally found a rather quaint inn on the streets of Yiling City. Entering the inn, he asked the owner for a quiet room, hoping to provide Wei Ying with a comfortable rest. Chaoyang gently held Wei Ying in his arms and carefully laid him on the bed. Looking at his sleeping face, his heart filled with love and concern. Chaoyang stood by the bed, his eyes gently gazing at the sleeping Wei Ying. He saw that Wei Ying's face was covered in dust and his clothes looked a little dirty. Chaoyang felt a surge of pity and wanted to wash him, to restore him to a clean and tidy appearance. However, he was worried that in the process of washing Wei Ying, he would accidentally wake him up and disturb his rare sleep.
After some thought, Chaoyang decided on a compromise. He gently raised his hand, silently chanted an incantation, and cast a sleeping spell on Wei Ying. This spell would allow Wei Ying to continue in a deep sleep, unaware of any external disturbances that would wake him.
After casting the sleeping spell, Chaoyang carefully took off Wei Ying's dirty clothes. Looking at the old scars on the child's body, Chaoyang couldn't help feeling sad.
I retrieved an exquisite bathtub from the space and carefully placed it on the ground. Then, I drew a generous amount of water from the spiritual spring and poured it into the tub until the water level reached a satisfactory level. Then, I used my spiritual power to heat the water, ensuring it was the perfect temperature—neither too hot nor too cold—for the following bath.
Chaoyang gently picked up Wei Ying and carefully placed him in the warm water. The child was still asleep under the sleeping spell, but a peaceful smile appeared on his face.
Chaoyang gently washed Wei Ying's body, and every scar he saw made him heartbroken. He couldn't help but recall his own lonely years, which made him more determined to create a warm home for this child.
Watching Wei Ying in the tub, his wounds gradually healed under the nourishment of the spiritual spring water. It was as if time stood still at that moment, and all the pain and fatigue slowly dissipated in the clear spring water. Each drop of spiritual water seemed imbued with magical power, gently caressing Wei Ying's skin, removing the scars of varying depths. The wounds, once horrific, gradually became less hideous under the care of the spiritual spring water, and finally disappeared.
Wei Ying's breathing gradually became steady, and a long-lost sense of ease and tranquility appeared on his face, as if in the embrace of this spiritual spring, he had found a long-lost sense of security.
Chaoyang then began to clean Wei Ying. He carefully wiped away the dirt from his face. His movements were gentle and meticulous, fearing any noise that might disturb Wei Ying's slumber. Under Chaoyang's meticulous care, Wei Ying's face gradually recovered, looking incredibly adorable.
He carefully dried Wei Ying's body with a soft towel, then took out a set of clean clothes from the space and put them on the child.
The whole person looked refreshed, as if he had been reborn. Chaoyang looked at the clean, handsome child in front of him, and his heart was filled with a sense of accomplishment and satisfaction.
[Don't ask where the children's clothes come from, because the clothes are vestments and can change size automatically.]
"Uncle will protect you, Aying." Chaoyang said softly, with a firm light in his eyes.
He gently placed Wei Ying on the bed and covered him with a soft blanket. Chaoyang decided to let Wei Ying rest and recover his strength and spirit. He himself planned to use this opportunity to inquire about Yiling City, learning about its customs and potential dangers. Chaoyang knew that only by fully understanding the environment could he better protect Wei Ying and ensure their safety. So, he gently closed the door and set up a protective formation at the entrance, so that he would immediately detect anyone trying to enter the room. After making all the arrangements, Chaoyang left the inn and began to explore Yiling City.
Chaoyang found a teahouse, ordered a pot of tea, and pretended to ask the waiter about the situation in Yiling City. The waiter was a talkative young man and soon started chatting with Chaoyang.
Chaoyang casually asked, "Has there ever been a couple of cultivators with a child in Yiling?"
The waiter scratched his head, thought for a moment, and then replied, "Although Yiling is not a big place, there are many people coming and going. However, I don't remember the couple of cultivators with children you mentioned. However, there is one strange thing."
Chaoyang's heart moved, and he continued to ask: "Oh? What's strange?"
The waiter approached Chaoyang mysteriously and said in a low voice, "There's been a rumor about a missing child in Yiling City lately. It's said that the head of a prominent family has gone to great lengths to gather information about his long-missing child."
Chaoyang was startled. Could this be related to Sect Master Jiang's search for Wei Ying? He calmly continued, "Oh? What's the family head's name? Is there anything special about him?"
The waiter looked around to make sure no one was paying attention before continuing, "The patriarch's surname is Jiang, and his name is Fengmian. He's the head of the Yunmeng Jiang family. It's said that he's searched nearly the entire continent for his missing child, but never found him. Only recently did he find some clues in Yiling City."
Chaoyang frowned slightly, thinking to himself, "It seems that Jiang Fengmian's search for Wei Ying wasn't accidental, but the result of a long period of investigation and effort. But why would he expend so much energy just for a child? There must be some unknown secret hidden in this."
Chaoyang continued to inquire with the waiter, "Did Patriarch Jiang take any special actions in Yiling City? Or did he come into contact with anyone?"
The waiter shook his head and said, "I'm not sure about that."
Chaoyang nodded slightly in gratitude, but his heart was filled with even greater confusion. Why was Jiang Fengmian so obsessed with finding Wei Ying? Was it simply because he was his brother's son?
Chaoyang sat in the teahouse, observing Yiling City with his spiritual sense, taking in every corner of the city. He discovered that although Yiling City was small, it still had quite a few cultivators, especially near the city gates.
Chaoyang frowned slightly, thinking to himself, "This Yiling City is indeed not a simple place. It seems he needs to be more cautious." He thanked the waiter, ordered another pot of tea, and sat quietly in the teahouse, observing the people passing by.
