Chapter 129 Lan Xichen wakes up
Chaoyang shook his head helplessly, knowing full well that Xiao Jixue's temperament was always like this, and ignored him. Chaoyang's gaze shifted to Lan Xichen, sprawled on the bed, noticing his filthiness. With a gentle wave of his hand, Chaoyang cast a cleansing spell. In an instant, the dirt, dust, and blood on Lan Xichen's body vanished without a trace, leaving him looking brand new. Chaoyang gazed at the clean and tidy Lan Xichen with satisfaction, silently sighing: This is how he should be.
After doing all this, Chaoyang picked up the quilt beside him and covered Lan Xichen with it, then left the room with Xiao Jixue.
Xiao Jixue slowly walked towards Chaoyang and whispered softly in his ear, "Is the person you rescued the puppet mascot of the Lan family?"
When Chaoyang heard this, his brows furrowed, a hint of displeasure flashed in his eyes, then he rolled his eyes, snorted coldly, and turned away.
Seeing this, Xiao Jixue hurriedly chased after him, put on a flattering attitude, and said, "Hey, don't go! Can't I just stop talking? Don't be angry."
Chaoyang stopped, turned around, stared at Xiao Jixue with a cold gaze, and said sternly: "Speak properly."
Xiao Jixue's smile froze on his face. He knew he had said the wrong thing. "I understand." Chaoyang's expression eased slightly, but he still kept his distance. He said lightly, "Some things are not what you imagine."
Xiao Jixue nodded, indicating she understood the situation, but her curiosity remained. She wasn't curious about Lan Xichen himself, but rather Chaoyang's overly friendly attitude toward that person. After all, Chaoyang wasn't someone who would easily lend a hand. Chaoyang was generally gentle and polite, but deep down, he was cold and distant, and few could ever win his favor.
Chaoyang's genuine devotion to Wei Ying is unique in this world. Even with Meng Yao, Xue Yang, and Fen Hua, Chaoyang only trains them as capable assistants to Wei Ying. Although Chaoyang was initially forced into the trade, the rules didn't prevent him from training them as his subordinates; otherwise, the forbidden spell he cast wouldn't have been successful.
However, towards Lan Xichen, Chaoyang was not only gentle, but even a little too caring.
Lan Xichen's eyes suddenly snapped open, his gaze sharp and alert. The first thing he saw was the unfamiliar rooftop. Startled, he quickly sat up and looked around, trying to figure out where he was. However, everything around him felt strange to Lan Xichen, not a hint of familiarity.
Lan Xichen took a deep breath, attempting to mobilize his spiritual energy, hoping to gain some understanding of his condition. However, the flow of spiritual energy wasn't smooth, instead causing him to feel a dull ache in his meridians and dantian, as if reminding him of his physical weakness. He gritted his teeth, resisting the pain, and once again lifted his arms, attempting to rise from the bed.
However, his movement affected the wound on his back, causing him to groan involuntarily fall back onto the bed due to a sharp pain.
At this crucial moment, a crystal-clear jade bottle suddenly appeared within his field of vision. Lan Xichen's gaze was immediately drawn to it, and he noticed a note quietly lying next to it. He reached out and picked it up, seeing a few clear words written on it: "Take one when you wake up." Lan Xichen carefully poured a pill from the bottle and placed it in his palm. It was the familiar Gu Yuan Dan.
Lan Xichen then remembered that he had seen Senior Xuanyuan before losing consciousness and realized that he had been rescued.
Thinking of this, Lan Xichen finally relaxed completely. He also realized belatedly that he was not wearing any clothes, but was only gently covered by a layer of soft and supple gauze, shielding his body. Moreover, all the wounds on his body had been carefully medicated and properly bandaged.
Lan Xichen couldn't help but blush, then he lay down on the bed and began to look around the room carefully.
This is a remarkably elegant room. Outside the window, the shadows of trees sway gently in the breeze, while the chirping of birds and the chirping of insects weave into a natural symphony. Sunlight filters through the gaps between the bamboo leaves, dappling through the window and onto the rustic table by the window, adding a touch of warmth and vitality to the quiet space.
On the table lay the four treasures of the study—brush, ink, paper, and inkstone—each revealing the owner's cultural heritage and refined taste. In addition, a burner of incense burned, its white smoke curling upward like dancing fairies, dispersing in the air and emitting a pleasant, soothing aroma.
To the right of the room stood an exquisite beam, draped with several garments, swaying gently in the breeze. Further away, a gauze screen, embroidered with exquisite poetry, stood at the doorway, like a beautiful landscape painting, adding to the elegance of the room while cleverly blocking the view outside.
Looking over to the bedside, there was a small coffee table, a tray carefully placed upon it. Inside the tray lay Lan Xichen's personal belongings: an exquisitely carved jade pendant; two or three storage bags; and an exquisite headband. A headband! Oh my! Lan Xichen stared in astonishment at the headband on the tray, embroidered with white rolling clouds and the word "Huan" meticulously embroidered at its end. His eyes widened, his expression dazed as he stared at the headband on the tray, his mind a blur.
At this moment, suddenly, distinct footsteps were heard at the door, and a slender figure slowly emerged from behind the screen. He said in a playful tone, "Hey! Are you awake?"
Lan Xichen immediately became alert upon hearing the unfamiliar sound, looking up towards its source. A slender figure with a striking demeanor emerged into his field of vision. His long, flowing silver hair and skin as white as fresh snow, so delicate it practically translucent, were accentuated by lips as red as vermilion, strikingly striking and dazzling against his handsome features.
Lan Xichen asked warily, "Who are you? Where is Senior Xuanyuan?"
The man smiled softly, a sly glint in his eyes as he asked, "You've never seen his face, so how do you know I'm not him?" He walked over to Lan Xichen's bedside and continued, facing him closely, "Also, I saw you staring at that headband in astonishment. Does it hold any special meaning for you?"
Before Lan Xichen could figure out who the person in front of him was, he was stunned by the other party's rapid-fire questions and was completely unable to keep up with the other party's pace.
When Chaoyang entered the room, he saw Xiao Jixue whispering something to Lan Xichen. "Xiao Jixue, what are you doing?"
Chaoyang's voice echoed in the room. Xiao Jixue slowly raised his head and his eyes met Chaoyang's. He smiled slightly, with a hint of amusement in his tone: "Chaoyang, you've come at the right time. I just want to ask Master Lan how he knew I wasn't you."
Chaoyang wore a mask, revealing his delicate chin. He then curled his lips and questioned, "Are you stupid? Look at your hair, then look at mine. How can they be the same?" After saying that, he ignored the other person and turned to look at Lan Xichen who was staring at him. A smile curled up at the corner of his mouth and he asked softly, "Awake?"
"..." Lan Xichen. Chaoyang thought he might have been frightened by Xiao Jixue's behavior and hurriedly explained, "Master Lan, this is my good friend Xiao Jixue. He's just joking and means no harm. Please don't mind!"
Lan Xichen nodded slightly. Although he still felt doubtful, he politely responded, "Hello, Master Xiao. I am Lan Xichen."
