Demonic Dao Fanfiction: Protecting You from Worries for a Lifetime
Chapter 100 Night Hunt
Wei Ying and Xue Yang flew for half an hour before a vast expanse of ocean and a shimmering golden beach came into view. A hundred or so houses were scattered neatly on the hillside not far from the coast. One of them, constructed of blue bricks and tiles, stood out, standing in stark contrast to the other mud brick, stone, and tiled houses in the village.
That must be the residence of the village chief or clan leader. Wei Ying and Xue Yang flew above the village and looked down, only to see a layer of gray haze mixed with black resentment, like a huge curtain, covering the entire village. Moreover, this resentment seemed to be constantly spreading, gradually spreading.
From Wei Ying's perspective, the resentful spirits seemed to possess life, baring their fangs and claws as they darted outwards towards the village's perimeter, as if searching for a target. It was precisely because of the presence of these resentful spirits that the brightly sunny day inexplicably seemed dark and cold, as if enveloped by an invisible haze.
Wei Ying stared at the thick resentment and turned to Xue Yang, saying, "It seems to be a man-made disaster. It's quite a big deal. The resentment is so strong."
Xue Yang also frowned and responded, "Well, this resentment is indeed unusual. We must proceed with caution."
The two slowly landed near the village entrance and headed towards it. They found a group of innocent children gathered there. They were enthusiastically playing with the mud, as if creating their own little world. Children, always sensitive and curious about their surroundings, chose a place to play right at the edge of the unpleasant resentment. The sunlight streamed down upon them unimpeded, a warm and bright glow.
As the two approached, the children stopped playing and stared at the two approaching mysterious figures with eyes filled with surprise, amazement, and intense curiosity.
This place is so remote that it is rare to see outsiders coming here all year round.
Apart from those high-ranking "immortals" invited by the village before, almost no one comes here.
However, the attitudes of those "immortals" were too ferocious, and not as good-looking as these two brothers. Moreover, the smiles of these two brothers were really beautiful.
Are these two brothers also "immortals"? The children like these two brothers.
"Children, is your family leader here?" Wei Ying walked forward, squatted down, and smiled. He made people feel extremely warm and happy at first glance, making people like him unconsciously and let down their guard.
“Here! Here!” a group of children shouted excitedly, but in their hearts they were thinking, “This little brother looks so cute when he smiles!!!”
"Hey, take me to find him, okay? I'll treat you to some candy." Wei Ying took out the osmanthus candy, and the children's eyes immediately sparkled. They rushed to be the first to lead the way, all eager to be the first to taste the delicious osmanthus candy.
"Okay! Brother, come with us!" Even if there was no candy, these children were very willing to lead the way for Wei Ying just because of his friendliness.
"Chief, chief, two little brothers are looking for you!" A group of children, chewing osmanthus candies they had never tasted before, were overjoyed. They ran to the front of the house, calling out loudly, and rushed into the house excitedly, eager to show their own value and live up to the candies given by the handsome brother!
Sure enough, the most conspicuous blue brick and tile house was the patriarch's residence.
Wei Ying and Xue Yang stopped at the door, waiting.
The moment Wei Ying and Xue Yang entered the village, they were struck by the thick, pervasive resentment. As they advanced deeper into the village, this resentment seemed to permeate everything. Though dispersed, they could still clearly sense its uneven distribution. Along the way, they observed that the resentment seemed to selectively linger around certain areas, particularly a few houses. The resentment seemed to have a particular preference, emanating a thick, dark, and almost suffocating atmosphere. These houses seemed tightly enveloped by the resentment, becoming the most concentrated point of resentment in the entire village.
Wei Ying and Xue Yang couldn't help but develop a strong interest in the owners of these houses. They thought that if someone lived in such a house for a long time, even if there were no evil spirits to harm them, they would easily become ill or encounter misfortune.
"I, an old man, greet the two young masters. What brings you to our humble village? I wonder?" Just as Wei Ying and Xue Yang were surveying the nearby house, shrouded in a thick atmosphere of resentment, a thin, plain-clothed old man swiftly approached. A hint of surprise crossed his face when he first saw Wei Ying and Xue Yang, but as his gaze settled on their clothing and swords, he immediately turned respectful and bowed.
"Old man, there's really no need to be so polite. May I ask your name?" Wei Ying and Xue Yang said in unison. Simultaneously, they reached out their hands and carefully supported the old man's body. They successfully prevented the old man from attempting to salute.
Upon hearing this, Clan Leader Liang seemed flattered and replied, "My surname is Liang. Our village is mostly made up of Liangs, with only four or five families from other families migrating here later." He had never seen such a polite and approachable immortal. The immortals he had met before were all arrogant, as if even a glance at them would taint their noble vision. He had seen this many times.
"Hello, Chief Liang. My junior brother and I heard that an evil spirit appeared here and killed many villagers, so we came here to take a look. Could you please tell me the situation in detail?" Wei Ying explained patiently.
Patriarch Liang looked at the two overly handsome young men and asked with confusion, "Are you the only two young men here? Are there no others?"
Wei Ying and Xue Yang heard this and thought he was worried they couldn't solve the problem, so Xue Yang immediately replied, "Don't worry, Clan Leader Liang. Although there are only two of us, we are more than capable of handling this matter. Furthermore, we are not the first to go out and exorcise evil spirits, so please tell us in detail what happened."
Clan Leader Liang heard Xue Yang's firm tone, but he couldn't help but persuade him. "To be honest, sir, this evil spirit is extremely dangerous! I'm afraid it's difficult for you two to handle it alone. Perhaps, could you consider having your family send a few immortal masters to assist?" Clan Leader Liang, drawing on his life's knowledge and experience, tried to tactfully express that he didn't doubt the two young masters' abilities, but rather believed that it would be more appropriate to have an additional expert to help.
Clan leader Liang naturally hoped that the Immortal Sect could quickly eradicate that evil entity, and he dreamed of that day almost every night. However, having witnessed the splendor of the Immortal Sect, Clan leader Liang naturally knew that the members of the Immortal Sect's aristocratic families were arrogant and dismissive of many things. Furthermore, most of them were paid without any work.
However, the most frightening thing is not that one pays money but fails to expel the evil spirits, but the immortal family's method of venting their anger on others!
