Witch Special
Chapter 65 The Three Golden Rules of Magic
Although the magic circle drawn by Lin Zhenxi is complex and huge, it is very easy to use when it is actually used. It does not require too much operation and is completely automatic.
After all, Lin Zhenxi only has a cat named Yanyan who he can rely on. It's okay to ask those servants to help with some small things, but if Lin Zhenxi really wants to entrust his life and property to these intellectually disabled guys, Lin Zhenxi himself will not feel at ease.
Therefore, Lin Zhenxi could only make the magic circle run automatically, moving all the trouble to the magic circle drawing stage. Although this would make the magic circle drawing three or four times more difficult than the normal situation with human operators, once it was running, there was no need for human supervision.
There were only two places where the magic circle could truly interact with the user. The first was the energy pool, where Lin Zhenxi would lie down, a large circle at the center of the magic circle. The second was the magic circle's transformation center, located at the twelve o'clock position. Where the countless lines of the magic circle converged, there was a groove just deep enough to hold the end of the staff. When the magic circle began to operate, all of her magic power would evaporate into the environment through this groove.
After so much foreshadowing, it's finally time to reveal what Hayashi Maki is up to. As a brief aside, Hayashi Maki's nickname in the company's records is "Fairy Tale Witch," a reference to the fact that many of her magic tricks can be traced back to fairy tales. Hayashi Maki is rather frustrated by this. Either her teacher's style isn't right, or the world itself has a tendency towards that. In short, almost all the worlds she's traveled through have had some connection to fairy tales, completely distorting her magical style and making her appear more... well, "gentle" than a typical company correspondent.
But Lin Zhenxi didn't really like this aspect of herself. While the Fairytale Witch wasn't a bad name, her lack of aggression was a real weakness. So what if she was omnipotent? When she first arrived in this world, even if Lin Zhenxi had summoned all her familiars, that thousand-meter-tall giant wouldn't have been able to stop her. If she were to reveal her true colors, by the time she recovered, she'd be surrounded by a swarm of renowned masters. There was no other way; she'd make too much noise, and it would be difficult to control.
The Witch Book has the ability to record witch templates. All witch-related career templates that Lin Zhenxi has seen can be recorded. When Lin Zhenxi needs them, she can directly apply these career templates to herself. The worlds that Lin Zhenxi has traveled through all have characters that meet the definition of "witch", so over the past ten years, Lin Zhenxi has accumulated several pages of powerful witch templates. This is the confidence that allows her to dare to enter this world without even knowing the situation. However, the process of switching witch templates is accompanied by some "side effects" that Lin Zhenxi finds difficult to accept. Therefore, under normal circumstances, Lin Zhenxi never considers using those special witch templates, and instead chooses to strengthen her normal state.
The magic circle in front of him was designed by Lin Zhenxi to make up for the lack of his own firepower.
Consider what Lin Zhenxi can do under normal circumstances. She can unleash invisible blades, cast life-destroying spells, and effortlessly summon blazing flames. However, nearly all of her magic is designed to target humanoids. Spells that are powerful enough to kill a normal-sized humanoid are far less effective against larger or more resilient foes.
Oh, I think I mentioned this at the very beginning of this volume... ahem, but at that time, I hadn't figured out a solution, so I could only stay away and sigh helplessly. Now it's different. Lin Zhenxi has found his own way to deal with those large, undead cockroach-like enemies.
All fear comes from insufficient firepower. We just need to increase the firepower, and no matter what monsters there are, they will all be crushed to pieces!
This is Lin Zhenxi's idea. Under the guidance of this central idea, Lin Zhenxi completed this large magic circle.
Supernatural powers are abstract and illusory. Lin Zhenxi didn't know about the other special agents, but to facilitate her understanding of her own power, she visualized magic power as a liquid originating from the heart, flowing throughout the body, and manipulated through mental power. This offered the advantage of easy manipulation, accessibility, and the ability to perform delicate operations. However, because the magic power was in liquid form, it, like Lin Zhenxi's blood, could only flow within her body and, at best, be transferred to her weaponry through the close connection between souls. Once outside Lin Zhenxi's body, such as when enchanted onto an object, the magic power's manifestation became fixed, losing its free-flowing properties and remaining only as simple magical properties.
Successfully casting a spell typically requires three steps. The first step is generating the thought, essentially activating the mind. The second step is drawing the magic power from the body and directing it toward the location where it will be used, such as a wand or fingertips. The third step is amplifying the magic power with a wand (or casting without a wand), concentrating it at the designated location. This resonates with the surrounding elements, creating a magical effect that adds elemental radiance; or, through the principle of equivalent exchange, produces a magical effect without attributes.
Fireballs, ice spears, wind blades, and earth spikes are all elemental magic, while the unlocking spell is a magic without attributes. The same goes for the Transfiguration Spell, the Levitation Spell, the Imprisonment Spell, the Armor Spell, and even the Death Spell... They all consume magic power to produce magical effects, but in fact they adhere to two different basic magical laws.
Besides the First Law of Elemental Resonance and the Second Law of Equivalent Exchange, there's actually a third, less common, fundamental magical law: "Soul Materialization." More simply, it means "interfering with reality through will." This corresponds to telekinesis and magic involving the soul. This type of magic often bypasses the mental manipulation of magical power, skipping directly from the first step to the third, consuming mental energy to produce the magical effect.
The Second Law: Principle of Equivalent Exchange and the Third Law: Soul Materialization are both typically based on the principle of "getting what you want," with little room for maneuver. Therefore, while they are more agile and precise than elemental magic, their power is significantly inferior to that of the First Law. Unless one is truly gifted, such as by consuming Holy Demon Fruit (sweet potatoes) or by consuming CPH4 to develop their brain to 100%, allowing them to squander magic and mental energy without restraint, the destructive power of the Second and Third Laws cannot match that of a First Law user who can multiply their magic power through elemental resonance.
Lin Zhenxi's mental and magical powers are both exceptional. After all, he's one of the company's first crop of talent, chosen from a pool of billions. Picking ten out of a hundred, or one out of ten thousand, is nothing compared to a talent picked from tens of millions. So, wouldn't you be afraid of a genius picked from tens of millions? Therefore, regardless of the world, Lin Zhenxi's talent is considered supreme. However, mortals and protagonists are incomparable. Compared to those abnormal beings with seemingly limitless basic abilities, Lin Zhenxi's meager qualities are still insufficient. Therefore, to compete with these chosen ones with boundless magical and mental powers, Lin Zhenxi can only rely on the first principle: elemental resonance.
In other words, the First Law is actually the one that spellcasters encounter most often. Elements exist within all things, forming the foundation of the world. Wherever they exist, chants and gestures can unleash the miracle known as magic. The Second and Third Laws often place more stringent demands on spellcasters, and therefore their number is far less.
Coincidentally, in the worlds Lin Zhenxi traveled through, the highest-ranking witch she encountered was a sorceress known as the "Seven Stars," a master of all elemental magic. Not only did this senior witch possess an unimaginably vast underground library, she also readily shared her unique insights into magic with the newly hatched witch. A teacher is someone who teaches, educates, and resolves doubts. In the realm of magic, she was Lin Zhenxi's first true teacher. Lin Zhenxi learned a wealth of valuable magical knowledge from this great witch of the Seven Stars. Even the transformation ritual she was currently preparing for her advancement was heavily influenced by her teacher.
The first principle: Elemental Resonance. This principle involves using one's own magic power to influence the magical elements in the air. Through the arrangement and combination of these elements, a variety of magical effects can be created. The more magical elements activated, the greater the power of the magic. And this power is almost unlimited. As the number of elemental particles affected by magic increases, the power of the magic will naturally increase accordingly.
Therefore, we only need to increase the contact area between magic power and external elements, so that magic power has more opportunities to touch the elements, and naturally we can call on more elements, thereby making the power of elemental magic greater.
But the reality Lin Zhenxi now faced was that her magic power was in liquid form, flowing within her body. It couldn't leave the range of her body and wand. Therefore, her magic power could only maintain a point-like contact with the external elements, and the elements it could touch were naturally limited. Now, she was planning to use this transformation array to transform her magic power from liquid to gaseous. Once vaporized, this magic power would have the ability to leave Lin Zhenxi's body and diffuse into the outside world.
