Witch Special

Chapter 19: So, she packed her bag. (End of Prologue)

The time that the onlookers were distracted by looking directly at the star map was longer than Lin Zhenxi had expected. After Princess Bai left, Lin Zhenxi waited there for another five or six minutes before Yan Qing gradually came back to her senses.

And even this speed was considered fast. When Yan Qing woke up, almost half of the people in the entire teleportation hall were still in a trance.

Yan Qing saw a large group of people standing there like stupid stakes, feeling both terrified and curious. Cats are just like that; the more scared they are, the more adventurous they are. Cats' suicidal spirit is always at the highest level.

"Maki Maki, look at them, they're just standing there looking stupid, meow!"

"Stop looking. You were like this just now. Let's go." Lin Zhenxi skillfully grabbed Yan Qing's neck and pulled her away.

The teleportation hall is the closest point between this plane and the otherworld. The frequent opening of portals to otherworldly realms fills this area with a strong otherworldly aura, making it a hotspot for paranormal activity. However, the company confines these otherworldly auras to this area, and this area is usually deserted, so even if a strange creature were to cause trouble, it wouldn't have anyone to prank. But things are different now. Today, a large number of ordinary people, unable to "see spirits," have arrived. Lin Zhenxi feels that if she stays here any longer, she might encounter some strange things.

Yan Qing had come with her, or rather, dragged her along. No matter what, Lin Zhenxi had to get Yan Qing out safely. As for what would happen to the others... well, that was for them. Satisfying curiosity came at a price.

Yan Qing actually wanted to stay here a little longer. After all, it was her first time in the teleportation hall, and she didn't know if she would have the chance to come again. It would be a shame not to explore it properly. But Lin Zhenxi pinched the back of her neck, which would make any feline stiffen and become easily manipulated. So Yan Qing was dragged away by Lin Zhenxi.

Before leaving the teleportation hall, Lin Zhenxi glanced back and saw that her colleagues had quietly spread out to various points in the hall, apparently ready to deal with any emergency. Her eyes turned cold, but she didn't say a word. She dragged Yan Qing through the portal and left the place.

In reality, someone could have simply shouted at the awakened to take the unconscious away. However, Lin Zhenxi's colleagues, seeking internal company credit for "suppressing paranormal activity," allowed the phenomenon to continue. This extreme selfishness, which completely disregarded the lives of ordinary people, was something Lin Zhenxi completely disagreed with.

After becoming special envoys and possessing the ability to travel to other worlds, some of them become self-important, viewing the natives of both this and other worlds as highly intelligent NPCs, completely at their service. This mentality, while being managed by a company in this world might be fine, is often accompanied by the distant and distant world of other worlds, leading them to act with extreme abandon.

The company's weapons, equipped with fantastical abilities, allow these agents to thrive in the otherworld, adapting to its rules. In the pursuit of profit, these ruthless agents often resort to unscrupulous means, completely disregarding moral principles. Since the company's rules don't apply to the otherworld, they can do whatever they please and walk away, free from all responsibility unless they're killed by the powerful natives. While the first time might be a burden, after repeated attempts, their evil desires are completely unleashed, transforming them into demons.

The company was solely responsible for issuing commissions to special envoys and maintaining public order in this world. As for the spiritual development of the special envoys, the company had no intention of interfering, even seeming to... let it run its course, watching it develop.

Of course, not all special agents develop such perverted mentalities. Some remain clean, like Hayashi Maki. However, the reason she doesn't join those corrupted agents isn't due to any noble character, but simply because her philosophy for completing commissions differs from theirs. Rather than placing herself on a pedestal, dictating the lives and deaths of the otherworldly natives, Hayashi Maki prefers to blend in and become part of their community. After all, the otherworld is not lacking in powerful individuals, some so powerful they barely register in the background, barely even appearing in ordinary intelligence. If those corrupt agents go too far, they risk being swiftly annihilated by the powerful aliens. Instead, maintaining a positive mindset and attempting to blend in can, while somewhat difficult, guarantee safety.

She wasn't on the same page as the special envoys, but there was no need to offend so many people. She could just take Yan Qing away and be done with it. Let them make trouble. After all, this was within the company, and even if there was trouble, the company would cover it. It wouldn't get too far.

After leaving the teleportation hall, Yan Qing's excitement quickly faded. As the head of the resettlement center, her primary job was to help newly arrived foreigners complete the introductory education necessary to integrate into the human world. Watching the collective teleportation ceremony was considered a sabbatical, so she had to hurry back afterward. After waving goodbye to Yan Qing, Lin Zhenxi returned to her office and, as expected, saw a light blue, Rubik's Cube-sized, translucent block on her desk.

This should be the independent space module that Princess Bai had given her in advance, a stable independent space that could hold a lot of things. Moreover, as long as the things were placed in the space, they could be taken through the portal to another world.

This is an absolutely great thing. It is even qualified to occupy a separate display cabinet in the company's initial arsenal, and is on the same level as Lin Zhenxi's elderberry wand.

Having an independent space module is like having an extra portable space pocket. Whether it is water, food, seeds, books, electronic products, or even guns and ammunition, you can put anything into it as long as the space inside the independent space module is not filled up.

If Lin Zhenxi's wand represents the extensibility and growth of abilities, then the independent space module represents the pinnacle of a specific area. While it doesn't offer the same potential for developing a full professional skill tree as a wand, it stands at the end of the road in the field of space storage from the very beginning. Perhaps in the long run, the elder wand is indeed superior to the independent space module, but in the early days of becoming a special agent, carrying a large amount of supplies to travel to another world clearly increases the chances of survival compared to traveling with only the clothes and a wand.

After all, it takes a lot of practice to use a wand to cast magic. In the beginning, Lin Zhenxi's magic was not even enough to ignite a pile of weeds.

Yanyan crawled out of the pendant that Lin Zhenxi wore on her chest, flew to the blue block that looked like it had a group of particles swirling inside, and stretched out her claws curiously.

"Is this the independent space module? It doesn't look anything special, meow."

Clap, clap.

Lin Zhenxi walked over, threw Yanyan, who was about to show her claws to compete with the Rubik's Cube, aside, and picked up the cube herself.

As soon as he took the cube in his hand, Lin Zhenxi felt that his mind had established a stable connection with the cube. The next second, the cube's physical sense disappeared, and Lin Zhenxi's palm directly reached into the cube's interior.

The interior of the cube was completely empty, yet at the same time, it had a distinct sense of layering. Lin Zhenxi closed her eyes and carefully "read" the instruction manual built into the space module, quickly understanding how to use it.

Then Lin Zhenxi realized her previous impression of this thing was completely wrong. In her mind, the independent space module was a portable space that could accompany her across worlds, transcending the restrictions of only being able to carry personal clothing and soul-bound items (generally, the company's weapons provided to special agents, but some high-secret items also have this property). She could store a lot of things inside, and that was it. However, after reading the instructions, Lin Zhenxi realized that this thing was not a travel pocket, but a spatial grocery store that required her to stock up on her own.

There is a line in the instructions for this thing that says: When storing objects of the same type, the capacity must not exceed the upper limit of the independent space.

However, different types of objects have independent storage spaces.

In other words, Lin Zhenxi could store drinking water up to its capacity in this space, and this wouldn't prevent her from adding salt to the space. Even mineral water and purified water could be considered two different categories. Once she understood the rules for classifying items, Lin Zhenxi could skirt the boundaries of these rules and break the entire world into small, individually sized pieces, then store them within this space.

Although it has a single function, the potential that can be tapped into seems to be no less than the elderberry wand in Lin Zhenxi's hand.

Fortunately, while this thing has no storage limit, extracting its contents requires an energy expenditure proportional to its mass, and it can't be stored indefinitely. Otherwise, it might be used as a weapon, and a nearly unstoppable space weapon. As it stands, it's at best a concealed weapon with significant limitations, suitable only for close-range sneak attacks. Lin Zhenxi wouldn't count on it to win a battle.

The primary function of an independent space module is to store things, and the most important thing is its maximum capacity. However, this independent space module is of the lowest level, with the internal independent space being just a cube with a length, width, and height of one meter. Strictly speaking, it's actually quite small, and even purified water can only be stored for one ton, making it completely unusable.

But it can hold a ton of liquor, a ton of beer, a ton of iced black tea, and a ton of green tea by just turning a page... So, the capacity is not a big problem. The real problem is Lin Zhenxi's wallet.

They were about to journey to an unknown world, and Lin Zhenxi procured and stockpiled supplies almost as if they were on Mars. Who knew if the atmosphere there would be much different from Earth's? If it were all methane, she'd be blinded. To this end, she even spent a fortune to purchase a single-person, permanent biosphere from the company's internal store.

Literally, it means that after it is unfolded, it is a high-end product that allows people to survive no matter how harsh the conditions are. It is the core component of the super shelter.

The average person wouldn't need this thing. Only the wealthy with too much money to spend would dream of building a doomsday fortress in their home. The Persistent Ecosystem was a super-powered Plus version of that thing. So, naturally, its price was ridiculously high. Lin Zhenxi's savings, which he'd accumulated for ten years, had shrunk by 60% after buying this thing. Add to that all the other purchases, and it was practically gone.

In the past, when Lin Zhenxi visited other worlds, she hadn't focused on collecting wealth. She couldn't bring any back anyway, so aside from soul-bound items, the company could only ensure the safety of the correspondents' clothing. But this time, with the independent space module in her possession and her wallet completely destroyed, if she didn't want to live on instant noodles every day after returning, she had to focus on collecting valuable hard currency that could be exchanged for money on Earth.

For example, gold, diamonds and the like.

It’s better to survive first... I hope that world doesn’t have very special rules, and gives her a warm and hospitable kill at the door.

Five days seemed like a long time, but they flew by amidst the frenzy of shopping and frantically shoveling items from other worlds she'd visited into the Space Cube. On the morning of the fifth day, Lin Zhenxi received a notification that the portal was about to open. Having already informed everyone she needed to of her upcoming journey, Lin Zhenxi felt no lingering concerns. She simply packed her belongings and entered the portal hall once again.

Unlike the last time, the hall was completely empty. Lin Zhenxi walked through the empty hall, her footsteps hitting the surrounding walls and echoing throughout the vast yet enclosed space.

At the end of the hall, the portal leading to another world slowly cracked open a narrow gap, revealing the illusory star map behind it.

"Come on... I'm ready." Lin Zhenxi looked up at the star map and said softly.

After saying that, she walked into the portal and became a dim star on the star map.

A new world, she is coming.
