Chapter 373 I Hate All Females
Rosie sat on the stone at the entrance of the cave, fiddling with a few grass stems, trying to weave a simple trap according to the falcon's instructions. The sunlight shone through the gaps in the leaves, and mottled light and shadows danced on her face.
"No, it will fall apart if weaved this way." Falcon came over, his bronze arm reaching out from behind her and taking the grass stem from her hand. His chest was almost pressed against her back, his breath brushing against her ear.
Rosie's body stiffened and she leaned forward subconsciously.
"What are you afraid of? I'm not going to eat you." The falcon scoffed, and his fingers nimbly wove the grass stems into a strong net. "Watch this, this is how you can trap your prey."
Rosie turned her head and was faced with Falcon's face, which was very close to her. In the sunlight, his eyes were as bright as amber, and his eyelashes cast a small shadow under his eyelids.
"I'm not scared." Rosie took the trap and examined the details of the weaving with feigned calmness. "I'm just not used to people being so close to me."
Falcon raised an eyebrow, took a step back, and leaned against a nearby tree trunk with his arms folded: "Rain is fine?"
Luo Xi paused and looked up at him: "What do you mean?"
"It's meaningless." Falcon looked away, his tone suddenly cold. "Keep practicing. Make ten of them, and I'll take you to set traps tomorrow."
Rosie bit her lower lip and lowered her head to continue knitting. Ever since she saved the injured orc that day, Falcon's attitude towards her had subtly changed. He no longer targeted her and even began teaching her some wilderness survival techniques. But whenever the topic of rain came up, he became erratic.
"Why are you teaching me all this all of a sudden?" Rosie asked, running her fingers through the grass stems.
Falcon was silent for a moment: "When Yu is gone, someone has to protect you."
"I thought you hated me."
"I hate all females." Falcon said calmly, "But you saved that orc, proving that you are not completely useless."
Luo Xi chuckled: "Is this a compliment?"
Falcon didn't answer, but came over to inspect her work. His fingers touched hers, and the temperature was surprisingly high. Rosie's heartbeat inexplicably quickened, and she quickly pulled her hand away.
"Just barely passing," Falcon commented. "Tomorrow I'll teach you how to use a stone knife."
"Why are you so nice to me?" Rosie couldn't help asking.
Falcon's eyes flickered: "I promised Yu."
Luo Xi nodded, but she was not completely convinced. She felt that Falcon's change in attitude towards her was not just because of his promise to Yu.
The next day, Falcon took Rosie to a nearby stream. The morning sun shone through the leaves, dancing on the water. Falcon squatted by the stream and motioned for Rosie to do the same.
"See those shadows underwater?" He pointed. "Those are fish. When using a stone knife, aim, but not where you see them."
"Why?" Rosie wondered.
"Water refracts light, and the fish's actual position is lower than you see." Falcon picked up the stone knife, shook his wrist, and the stone knife pierced into the water accurately, bringing out a struggling fish.
Luo Xi opened her eyes wide in surprise: "This is amazing!"
Falcon raised the corner of his mouth slightly and handed her a stone knife: "Try it."
Rosie took the stone knife and, mimicking the falcon's stance, aimed at a fish, took a deep breath, and threw the stone knife. The knife fell into the water but missed its target.
"Come again." Falcon's voice was surprisingly patient.
Rosie tried a few more times, and finally caught a small fish on the fifth try. She cheered and turned to look at the falcon, her face filled with the joy of victory.
Falcon's expression froze for a moment. In the sunlight, Rosie's smile was dazzlingly bright, as if it could melt ice and snow. He looked away, his Adam's apple rolling.
"Just lucky." He pretended to be indifferent. "Ten more times."
Over the next few days, Falcon taught Rosie a different survival skill each day: how to identify poisonous berries, how to track prey, and how to find clean water in the wild. Rosie learned quickly, mastering each skill in a short period of time.
Falcon found it increasingly difficult to maintain his indifference towards her. Whenever Rosie smiled happily because she had mastered a new skill, his heart would beat faster uncontrollably. He told himself that it was just because she learned quickly and saved him the trouble.
One evening, Rosie was practicing making a fire with flint at the entrance of the cave. Falcon sat beside her, watching her profile, which was softly and brightly illuminated by the firelight.
"What did you do in your original world?" Falcon asked suddenly.
Luo Xi paused and said, "I'm an ordinary person, nothing special."
"Then how do you know so much? That 'sugar', and how to heal wounds."
Luo Xi smiled and said, "I like reading and learned some basic medical knowledge. As for sugar, it's a very common thing in our world."
Falcon nodded, his eyes fixed on her hands. Those hands were slender and fair, yet they could expertly treat wounds and master various survival skills in a short period of time. He had to admit, this female was much tougher than he had imagined.
"Do you miss home?" Falcon asked again.
Rosie shook her head. "Not really. There's nothing worth remembering there."
There is really nothing worth reminiscing about a family like that, but for some reason, when Rosie said this, she felt empty inside.
It seemed like she had forgotten something important.
Just as she was about to think carefully, her thoughts were interrupted by Falcon's sudden question.
"What about Yu? Do you miss him?"
Rosie looked up and met Falcon's eyes: "Of course I do. He's very good to me."
Falcon's expression darkened and he stood up, his bronze muscles tensed in the firelight.
"I'll take you hunting tomorrow so you can go to bed early." He spoke in a low voice, his eyes drifting away, "so that you won't be too tired to hold me back tomorrow."
Luo Qian looked up at him, her heart inexplicably tense. At night, there were often stray orcs wandering outside the cave, and occasionally ferocious beasts would break in. Being alone here, even with the firelight by her side, it was hard not to feel fear.
"What are you going to do?" she asked, her voice softer than she expected.
The tips of Falcon's ears were visibly red. He had his back to Rosie, and his shoulders were tense.
"Don't worry."
Luo Xi immediately understood. She pursed her lips and watched Falcon's departing back, puzzled. Why did Falcon's attitude become strange every time he mentioned rain?
Forget it, if you can’t figure it out, just stop thinking about it.
As the night deepened, the wind outside the cave grew louder. Rosie curled up on the animal hide, the light from the fire casting flickering shadows on the cave wall. She closed her eyes and tried to fall asleep, but was always awakened by the noise outside.
Suddenly, a sharp cry pierced the night sky.
Rosie sat up suddenly, her heart beating rapidly. It wasn't the wind, but the cry of some creature, a cub?
She hesitated for a moment, then picked up the torch and cautiously walked towards the cave entrance. In the moonlight, a small figure was stumbling towards the cave, followed closely by a huge black shadow.
Ferocious beast!
Luo Qian's pupils suddenly constricted. It was a massive black beast with sturdy limbs and fangs flashing with cold light, chasing an orc cub that looked no more than three or four years old.
The cub fell down, letting out a desperate cry, and the ferocious beast was about to bite the cub -
