Being a Life Player in the Middle Ages
Chapter 1 Chapter 1 (Revised)
"Help, help..."
Run, the faster the better.
In the wild jungle, Mia ran forward in panic, shouting for help. She didn't know how long she had been running, nor did she know if anyone could really hear her cries for help, but she didn't dare to stop. The villains behind her were following her like a shadow, and the malicious laughter that followed made her shudder. She probably thought that in the eyes of those people, she was like a mouse being toyed with under the claws of a cat, unable to escape and could only be entertained by them. When they got tired of playing with her, she, the prey, would be torn apart and eaten, without even a bone left.
Oh, those guys who were obviously not good people might not eat her, but whether she was caught and sold, or suffered a more cruel fate, it would make Mia so terrified that she dared not think too much about it.
That would definitely be the beginning of a nightmare like hell.
So she had no choice but to run. Even though she was exhausted and her heart felt like it was about to jump out of her chest, she didn't dare to stop.
But after shrinking to a child's size, Mia was even less adept at moving. Moreover, this was an unfamiliar forest, filled with tall trees that blocked her view. Mia didn't know where she was or where to go.
She didn't even know where those villains came from, let alone why they wanted to catch her.
She was clearly at home enjoying the air conditioning, drinking cold drinks and playing games the moment before, then a white light flashed before her eyes, she heard a loud bang, and then she lost consciousness in a burst of pain.
When she woke up again, she found that she was no longer at home. The surroundings had turned into a strange dense forest, her body had become smaller, and she had changed her clothes.
But before she could figure out what had changed about herself, the four men with weapons in their hands and vicious faces suddenly appeared, saying things like "There's still a fish that's been caught" and "You look good, so you should be able to fetch a good price", and they were about to catch her.
Fortunately, although Mia looked confused, she was very alert and smart. As soon as she realized something was wrong, she turned around and ran away, so she was not caught on the spot.
But her situation wasn't much better now. How could a child outrun several strong adults? It was only a matter of time before she was caught.
Her feet felt heavier and heavier as if they were filled with lead. Fatigue and weakness spread throughout her body, and even breathing became difficult. She knew she could not hold on for much longer.
The next moment, as if fate agreed with her thoughts, Mia felt something trip her feet and she stumbled and fell on the wet ground covered with dead branches and rotten leaves.
Inertia caused Mia to fall heavily. She cried out in pain, but still tried to get up tenaciously, but the pursuers were already here.
"This girl can run quite well. She's in good shape."
"She's not bad looking, the brothel should be willing to spend a few more gold coins to buy her."
A few villains were joking, and one of them was about to catch Mia.
Mia suddenly grabbed a handful of dirt and threw it at the other person's face, hitting the other person's eyes. At the same time, she seemed to get up from the ground and run.
"hateful!"
The man, whose eyes were hurt by the mud all over his face, became angry and ferocious, and raised the knife in his hand to teach her a lesson.
"Hey, don't!"
The companions nearby saw this and tried to stop him. If he was chopped to death, he would lose several gold coins.
Before they could grab the man's hand, several sounds of breaking through the air were heard.
"Whoosh!"
"what!!!"
Mia had already closed her eyes and prepared to die, but the expected pain did not appear. Instead, the villain holding the knife cried out in pain, and the knife in his hand fell to the ground with a clang.
Mia opened her eyes and saw this scene. Without caring about anything else, she immediately rushed towards the knife that fell not far from her. When she picked up the knife and struggled to stand up, she found that the villains who were originally showing off their power were now pierced by arrows. The one who wanted to stab her was shot in the hand and was holding his injured right hand in pain and unable to speak. The other three villains were even more unlucky. They had arrows stuck in their chests. The arrows pierced through their unprotected chests, pierced their hearts, and brought death.
Mia then realized that the sound of breaking air that she had just vaguely heard was not from the knife that was about to chop her, but from the sharp arrows flying towards her.
She held the knife she had picked up in both hands and moved cautiously away from the villain who had an arrow in his hand but might still pose a threat to her, then she turned her eyes towards the direction where the sharp arrow came from.
Judging from the angle at which those people fell, the arrow should have been shot from behind her left side.
Soon, there was a sound of chaotic footsteps getting closer and closer, and then five people on horseback, dressed as knights, emerged from behind the trees.
These knights all wore helmets that looked like half a football, with a tuft of colorful horsehair fluttering in the wind on the top of the helmet. They wore chain mail made of leather strips and metal sheets, with sharp blades hanging around their waists, shields on their backs, and bows and arrows in their hands. The sharp arrow that hit the villain and saved her was shot by them.
These people saved her life.
But Mia did not relax. She held the knife with both hands and backed away slowly and cautiously. If she had not been so exhausted and her right ankle would have been in pain if she had exerted even a little force, she would have most likely sprained it. Mia would have definitely run away.
She was unsure of her current situation, nor could she be sure whether the knights who had saved her were friends or enemies.
When she met those villains, she realized that something was wrong with her situation.
The people chasing her obviously did not look Chinese, but more like Westerners. The clothes they wore were not what modern people would wear, but more like the medieval clothes described in books and movies. Moreover, their language was very unfamiliar. It was not Chinese, nor was it the English that had tortured her for three years in high school. Logically, Mia should not have understood it, but the fact was that not only could she understand it, she could even speak it herself. Just now, when she was running away and shouting for help, what came out of her mouth was not her native language or English, but the same language as theirs.
At that time, Mia suspected that she might have traveled through time, and most likely into someone else's body, but she had no memory and could not figure out what had happened that made "her" stay alone in the jungle, and she could not trust anyone.
Seeing her vigilance and fear, the leading knight dismounted from his horse, put away his weapon, and raised his hands to indicate that he meant no harm.
The knight was very tall, with blue eyes, deep features and sharp angles. He had a typical European appearance and was very handsome. He was also very young, probably about the same age as her - of course she was referring to her age before she shrank.
The young blue-eyed knight spoke to Mia soothingly, "Don't be afraid, young lady. We are His Majesty's guards, and we've been ordered to go out of the city and wipe out the surrounding bandits. These bandits won't harm you anymore, so you're safe."
As he spoke, a "ding" sound suddenly popped up in Mia's mind.
The dinging sound that sounded like an auditory hallucination attracted Mia for a moment, but now was not the time to explore this. She looked at the tall knight in front of her and saw the sincerity in his eyes that did not seem fake. Her heart, which had been hanging for a long time, finally settled down, and her tense emotions relaxed. Then tears flowed out involuntarily.
Mia frantically wiped the tears from her face with one hand, but she still had the knife in her hand. She sniffed, stopped crying, and said, "I'm sorry, please forgive my rudeness. I was just too scared."
The knight's attitude softened. "It's okay. I understand."
While he was trying to comfort Mia, the other knights had already dismounted and walked towards the knocked-down villains. At this time, except for the villain who intended to commit the crime, the other three had already died.
The only surviving villain became their target for interrogation.
Looking at those hideous corpses, Mia took a few steps back with difficulty, not daring to look anymore.
As an eighteen-year-old high school student living in modern times, it was her first time seeing a real corpse.
The knight who stayed with her noticed her difficulty in moving. "Are you injured?"
Mia nodded and said, "I think I twisted it when I fell just now."
The knight said, "Excuse me," and squatted down in front of her. He took off his gloves and reached out to check her injured right foot.
Mia was wearing a brown long skirt at this time. The fabric was quite fine and she had stockings on her feet. When the knight helped her check her wound, he did not take off her socks, but carefully touched the wound directly through the socks. After groping for a while, he probably confirmed her condition. Mia only felt that the hands supporting her feet suddenly exerted force, and she screamed in pain again.
The knight who had already treated her let go of the injured foot and put on his gloves again: "Okay, your condition is not serious, just rest for a few days."
Mia, whose tears were falling again due to the pain, nodded and thanked him: "Thank you."
"You can sit down and rest for a while."
The knight took down a rolled-up blanket from the horse's back, spread it on the ground for her to rest, and then walked over to his companions to inquire about the results of the interrogation.
Mia did not refuse the other party's kindness. At the moment, this group of people gave her a relatively friendly feeling, but she really could hardly stand.
She sat on the blanket, the thick blanket isolated the dampness of the ground. She carefully placed her injured foot, the knife was placed at hand where she could reach it at any time, and her eyes turned to those people.
Although she was far away from the corpses and danger, she could still hear the conversation clearly at this distance.
The only survivor was not a tough guy. Under the interrogation of the knights, he quickly told everything about himself and his dead companions.
As the knight said, these people were indeed the target of their trip, a group of bandits who had come from other places and were entrenched in this dense forest.
This bandit group was quite large, with as many as fifty people. Moreover, they had just robbed a caravan not long ago. The main group returned to their lair with the looted property. The four of them chased after them because they found that there were still some fish caught in the net.
When talking about the fish caught in the net, the man glanced at Mia, and also attracted the attention of several knights.
Mia's heart tightened. She was still not sure what her situation was, and she had no memory of anything. If these people wanted to ask her something, she would have no way of answering.
Fortunately, these knights probably saw that Mia was young and had encountered such a situation, and was probably quite frightened, so they did not come over to question her. Instead, they continued to ask the man where the caravan was attacked and where the lair of these bandits was.
The villain didn't want to say anything at first, but the knight in charge of the interrogation drew the sword from his waist and stabbed him, and the other party obeyed.
