Qingyun's Love: Tiger Boy Falls in Love with a Pretty Lawyer
Chapter 45 Stay
Ran Mo wanted to say it was nothing, but when he thought about the nightmares he often had at night, he couldn't help but frowned.
Seeing her silence, Qingsheng assumed she was genuinely frightened, so he teased her, "Ha, you're quite the little scholar. You're even afraid to sleep alone." But then he realized something was amiss, as it didn't fit his true meaning, so he quickly added, "I sometimes wake up in the middle of the night even when I'm sleeping alone."
Ranmo didn't continue the conversation. She focused more intently on her notes. Qingsheng, fearing to disturb her, went to the yard to practice boxing.
As dusk fell, Qingsheng was still sitting in the room. Ranmo glanced at him a few times, but he pretended not to know.
When the sky was completely dark, Ran Mo took the initiative to ask, "Do you want to go back now?"
"Mr. Wu's family has been hosting banquets these past two days, and the noise lasts until midnight, which really makes it difficult to sleep. Didn't you see that there are bloodshot eyes this morning?" Qingsheng looked up and said.
Seeing that Ran Mo didn't say anything, he mustered up the courage and said, "How about I stay at your house tonight?" Afraid that Ran Mo would deny it, he added, "I really can be your companion. It's a dark and windy night, and there must be some bad guys around..."
Ranmo thought about it and it made sense. In ancient times, there were no night lights, and the gates were thin and the walls were low. As a girl living alone, she was really worried. Especially when she had nightmares at night, the feeling was really unbearable.
Ran Mo didn't want to keep him in suspense, so he said magnanimously, "I don't need your care and protection. Stay here if you want. It's not a big deal for brothers to stay here for a while."
Qingsheng couldn't help but feel delighted upon hearing this. It was strange. He had lived at Wu Shao's house for so long without feeling anything special, so why was staying at Ran Mo's house for just one night such a delight to him?
Ranmo thought about moving into his mother's room and giving this one to Qingsheng. This was exactly what Qingsheng wanted. With approval, he grew bolder and, looking around, said jokingly, "Ah, living in the young master's room, oh, the study, the bedroom, it's certainly a unique experience."
Fearing he might be out of control, Ranmo quickly sent him off to wash up and helped him make his bed. Then, looking around, he quietly gathered some of his daughter's belongings and placed them in a closet. After cleaning up and washing up, the two of them retired to bed.
Ranmo lay on the bed but didn't fall asleep immediately. His mother's room was quiet and clean, but after all, it was a new bed, so he needed some adjustment.
I heard some movement in the kitchen, and then I heard the sound of drinking water. Perhaps Qingsheng was thirsty at night and got up with a ladle to scoop water from the jar to drink.
Not long after, the sound of rushing water could be heard again in the courtyard. The weather had been getting hotter recently, and Ranmo was only covered with a thin sheet. The sound of running water must be Qingsheng taking a shower.
He truly is a restless person. Ran Mo turned outside. Because of the heat, the door was slightly ajar, letting in a breeze. Through that narrow gap, he spotted the man standing in the courtyard, wearing only a pair of gray cloth shorts, scooping water from a bucket to shower. His figure must have been excellent, especially the bulging, rounded muscles of his upper body, which, in the moonlight and accompanied by water droplets, looked robust and shimmering.
Ran Mo's heart tightened when he saw this, and he quickly looked away and lay flat on the couch. His heart was pounding.
In the middle of the night, she finally fell asleep. She had another terrifying dream. In it, she was wandering in the woods when she heard a tiger roar and saw a powerful tiger pounce on her. She screamed and ran away...
"Ran Mo, Ran Mo, what's wrong with you?" Ran Mo was woken up by an urgent call. When she opened her eyes, she saw Qing Sheng leaning over her bed, his eyes full of concern and anxiety.
Ranmo breathed a sigh of relief and shook her head slightly to indicate that she was fine. Qingsheng helped her sit up and wiped the sweat from her forehead. Then he sat down by the bedpost and let Ranmo lean on his shoulder.
After a short rest, his mind calmed down. Ranmo said embarrassedly, "Thank you for your help," and then asked Qingsheng to go back to the house to sleep.
Qingsheng said he couldn't sleep at the moment, so he just dozed off in the chair for a while, and he could also look after Ranmo. After helping Ranmo lie down, he sat at the table, supported his forehead with one hand, and rested.
When Ranmo woke up, he saw Qingsheng sleeping soundly on the table. He got up and put some clothes on him. Qingsheng also woke up.
Ranmo asked him to lie down on the bed and sleep. He didn't refuse and lay down on the bed with sleepy eyes. After a while, he began to snore softly.
After Ranmo washed up, he washed the rice and plucked a small head of rapeseed from the field, chopping it up on the chopping board. Soon, he had a pot of fragrant vegetable and rice porridge. He also took some red tofu and salted shredded radish from the jar as a side dish.
After setting the table and returning to the house, he found Qingsheng still sound asleep. Ranmo smiled. He was really at that age where he was a sleepyhead. He didn't want to wake him, but he was also afraid he'd oversleep and wouldn't be able to fall asleep that night. So he gently rocked him and called his name.
Qingsheng was still asleep, and somehow he grabbed her hand, mumbling in his sleep: "Ranmo, Ranmo, I..."
Ranmo hurriedly pulled his hand away, then patted his palm twice. Qingsheng finally woke up, smiled at Ranmo, and sniffed, saying it smelled good. Ranmo smiled and pulled him up, telling him to go have breakfast.
The two of them sat down around the table and slowly drank their porridge. Qingsheng sighed, "Sleeping on a soft couch at night and drinking porridge in the morning, how pleasant it is."
Ranmo laughed at his literary manner. He said proudly, "As long as there is ink, it will turn black."
Ran Mo was speechless. Was this just another of those words that suddenly popped up in his mind? He didn't ask, but just said that if he wanted to be proficient in writing, he had to read more.
Qingsheng grinned. "So, after all my studies, I can only barely grasp the basics of writing. It would be better to hire someone proficient in writing to help me." He remembered the word "help" that Ranmo had mentioned to Hu Ling last time.
The two chatted for a while longer. Ranmo asked if he was going to the lawyer's stall today. Qingsheng, still upset by yesterday's events, said it was still early and that it would be fine to rest at home.
At noon, the two of them had lunch at home. Ranmo made two bowls of egg noodles and added a cold dish of three-shredded vegetables. Qingsheng was very satisfied with the food and said it was better than the noodle shop down the street.
Ran Mo looked at him, feeling quite relieved. The two of them stayed in the room for a long time without feeling bored. They were like old acquaintances or family, forming a harmonious atmosphere. Even when they didn't speak, there was no sense of strangeness or restraint.
After dinner, they both took a nap. When they woke up, they saw it was already late afternoon. They probably wouldn't be able to go to the lawyer's stall.
The two of them simply locked the door and went shopping. They didn't go to the bustling places, but walked west along the main road.
Ranmo is no stranger to this road, as she once had an experience of "chasing the sun" here when she was young.
The radiant red sunset was so alluring, it captivated the child's heart every day. It seemed so close to the ground, and so close to him. So, Ranmo chose a day and walked along the path towards the sunset.
I walked and walked, out of town. The cars and pedestrians became fewer and fewer. I was almost at the end of the road, but why was I still not reaching the sun? Seeing that there was no one around me, I dared not go any further and could only say goodbye to the setting sun with regret.
She didn't tell her mother after returning home. Later, as she gained more knowledge, this wonderful and interesting idea was forever sealed in the pages of a book. Although she didn't succeed in chasing the sun, she learned to appreciate and pursue the beauty of nature.
Now that this person was with her, she couldn't tell him to chase the sun, but having a big, round, red target ahead did add a lot of fun.
Qingsheng even took the opportunity to compose two lines of "weird poetry" for her:
"Oh, sun, why do you rise in the east and set in the west, over and over again?" He glanced at Ranmo at this point and continued, "Oh, you, why are you so calm and indifferent, unable to understand the language of flowers?"
Ranmo couldn't help but laugh. This kid was quite clever. He just couldn't figure it out: was this ancient poetry or modern poetry? A poem about an object, expressing one's feelings, or simply using the subject to expatiate on the subject?
Seeing that she didn't comment, Qingsheng said, "Could you teach me how to write poems that express my feelings of love in the future?"
Ran Mo's heart trembled, but he said calmly, "Love poems don't need to be taught. It's enough to express the feelings from the heart. Why did you want to learn this? Are you planning to write one for a girl?"
Qingsheng said nothing, but turned to gaze at the setting sun, lost in thought. He wondered if he was composing a love poem.
