Qingyun's Love: Tiger Boy Falls in Love with a Pretty Lawyer
Chapter 39 Best Friend
After practicing martial arts and doing that for a long time, the two of them were a little hungry, so they went to a nearby food street to fill their stomachs.
Qingsheng offered to treat them. Ranmo wanted to introduce him to the AA system, but then he realized that he had paid a lot today and couldn't let him get away with it, so he happily accepted.
The two of them walked into a nice restaurant. The waiter greeted them, poured them tea, and handed them a menu. This was quite rare.
The two of them sat at the corner of the table, each leaning over to look. They were a little surprised to find that it didn't look like a menu, but more like a list of poems or a collection of idioms.
Qingsheng pointed at one of the dishes and wanted to ask for details. The waiter looked at them and said, "My two guests, please don't know. Our restaurant's ordering rules are that we won't tell you the details yet, just to keep you surprised. If you're not satisfied with the dish, you can return it without any charge."
Ranmo had encountered similar restaurant menus before, and he was afraid of encountering unreliable ones, with good names but hard to describe when served. However, the restaurant owner was so sincere, so he just had fun. Even if he stepped on a landmine, he would just teach Master Chu a lesson and let him know the dangers of society.
So he nodded to Qingsheng. Qingsheng smiled and said, "Then pick something nice to listen to."
He glanced at the menu and spotted a dish called "Mandarin Ducks Playing in the Water." Qingsheng wanted to order that, but worried about the waiter's presence, he pointed to a dish called "Brothers United, Their Strength Can Cut Through Metal" and said that was one of the dishes. Then he asked Ranmo to order it.
Ranmo looked at it and casually ordered "Auspicious Full Moon over Flowers." Qingsheng wanted to order two more dishes, but Ranmo said he didn't know how much food would be, so he just ordered them first.
Not long after, two dishes were served on the table. The two looked at them carefully and fell into deep thought.
The dish Qingsheng ordered looked all black and red, suggesting a meat dish. He spent a long time trying to figure out what it was, but the waiter was more than willing to explain it, explaining that it was a popular dish at their restaurant.
The dish features stir-fried kidney slices with whipped tofu, braised lamb heart, and beef tendon. It's not only refreshing and tender, but also nourishing. It's a must-order for many diners.
The two of them were silent. The food was good, though a bit fishy. Luckily, they weren't picky eaters and could manage to eat it. Qingsheng picked up a piece of kidney and found it smooth and delicious. He sighed, "You can't judge a dish by its appearance."
Ran Mo didn't pick up her chopsticks, staring at her plate of "Flowers and Full Moon." The dish was beautifully presented, vibrant in color. The centerpiece was a red carp, made from a jelly-like substance, adorned with edible flowers and a golden wedding cake symbolizing the full moon. It was fairly standard, though a bit too sweet.
Qingsheng suggested ordering two more bowls of mutton noodles as a main course. Ranmo didn't refuse. If only one bowl of noodles would have been enough.
Qingsheng picked up a piece of crispy oysters and playfully offered it to Ranmo. Ranmo glanced at it and turned away. Qingsheng smiled and tossed the oysters into his own mouth, crunching them with a delicious crunch. If there were a place selling grilled oysters here, Ranmo would definitely order a dozen for him to enjoy.
They were both a little full, so they quickly paid the bill and went out for a walk to digest their food.
A bright moon shone in the sky. The two of them walked toward a quieter spot. Halfway along, Qingsheng naturally placed his hand on Ranmo's shoulder. Ranmo stirred slightly, but didn't resist. Considering that he'd already embraced her during the day, this gesture wasn't a big deal.
We came to a terrace, in front of which was a quiet canal with weeds growing on both sides and the croaking of frogs could be heard from time to time.
The two stood on the terrace admiring the moon. Ranmo couldn't help but sigh, "Through all the ages, the moon remains unchanged." Qingsheng seemed lost in thought as well.
A gust of wind blew past. Qingsheng sneaked up to Ranmo's side and slightly behind him, gently wrapping his arms around him. He then leaned forward and placed his heavy head on Ranmo's shoulder.
Ran Mo's heart fluttered. This physical contact felt warm, yet it also carried a certain unspoken meaning. If she were now a clear daughter, she could embrace Qing Sheng openly and cuddle him. This was exactly what she longed for.
But right now, she felt incredibly awkward about her identity. She even regretted disguising herself as a man. She might as well just go back to dressing like a girl and not even attend this crappy school.
That said, she wasn't ready yet. She hadn't considered the controversy that would ensue if she revealed her true identity, or even the negative impact it would have on the school and its teachers. She couldn't assess the risks. And she didn't know if Qingsheng would temporarily distance himself from her because of the gender difference.
Right now, the most important thing was how to get this boy to face up to and even manage their relationship properly. A young man's mind was like a reed in the wind; when he truly wanted to let loose, he was fearless of any interference. She was terrified that this would cause him to lose his composure and lose himself. She would truly blame herself.
Thinking of this, she no longer hesitated and turned around quickly, wanting to say something clear to him. However, she turned a little too quickly and with a big swing. Qingsheng was also raising his head to move forward, and accidentally touched her.
Ran Mo's face flushed, but luckily it wasn't too clear under the moonlight. Qing Sheng also shuddered and leaned back.
Ran Mo took a deep breath and walked forward without saying anything. Qing Sheng paused for a moment and followed him.
In the distance, the lights were just beginning to come on, a fusion of bright and dark colors. Many pedestrians were walking in groups of three or four from the intersection over there to visit the night market.
Qingsheng saw two people walking towards this side from a distance and said to Ranmo, "I met someone I know."
Ran Mo looked in the direction he pointed and saw a man in a light grey robe and a woman in a purple dress strolling towards him in the colorful area under the light. He recognized them as Young Master Wu and Miss Hu.
Ran Mo was just hesitating whether to greet him. Qing Sheng had already rushed over, summoning Master Wu. Naturally, Ran Mo could no longer hide.
When Young Master Wu heard the voices and saw that it was Qingsheng and Ranmo, he was delighted but then a little flustered. Hu Ling, on the other hand, seemed to be very polite. After a greeting, she walked towards Ranmo as if they were old acquaintances.
Qingsheng and Wu Shao were chatting over there. Hu Ling and Ranmo were discussing their meeting a few days ago, and with a hint of regret, she asked Ranmo why he hadn't come to see her again. If it wasn't convenient to go to that place, they could always find a teahouse or courtyard to enjoy some poetry and song.
Ranmo explained that he had been delayed by studies and other things recently, and would visit her when he had time. He also asked her if she had any new ideas for her work.
Hu Ling sighed, her mind feeling dull lately; no bright ideas had come to her. When she was bored, she'd play the zither, sing a few tunes, or occasionally go out with friends. As she spoke, she glanced over at Wu Shao.
Ran Mo didn't dare to ask about their relationship. However, Qing Sheng rarely spoke to Hu Ling and Wu Shao, "You two seem like close friends."
Hu Ling was a sharp-tongued person, so she retorted, "You and Ran Mo seem to have a special relationship."
Their faces flushed instantly. Wu Shao laughed and said, "Don't say that. They're just two naughty teenagers." Qing Sheng stammered, "We're best friends."
The few of them joked around a bit more, and the atmosphere became warm and familiar.
After chatting for a while longer, Wu Shaoyin said goodbye to Hu Ling because he had to take her home early. They also agreed to hold another poetry gathering soon to express themselves and have some fun together.
After watching the two leave, Ran Mo turned to look at Qing Sheng and praised him, "Compared to that day, you are much more polite and generous to Hu Ling today."
Qing Sheng said cunningly, "Since Young Master Wu is optimistic about her, she must be a good person. Besides, she's your friend, so naturally I can only accompany her."
Ran Mo glanced at him and smiled: "I always feel that you have some ideas that you haven't said yet."
Qingsheng was startled, and he leaned in to look at Ranmo and said, "You really are the... sausage in my stomach. You actually know that I have other ideas."
Ran Mo was a little bored by his metaphor, and said patiently: "Then tell me about it."
Qingsheng scratched his head and said shyly, "I was thinking it would be a good thing if they became a couple. It would save us from having to involve other people."
Ran Mo looked at him suspiciously. What kind of words were these? Why did he involve others? He wanted Qing Sheng to explain himself.
Qingsheng hesitated and refused to speak. Ranmo, wanting to provoke him, said, "That's a shame. I was hoping to spend some time with Young Master Wu and see if we could become good friends. If they spend all day together, there's no room for us to talk."
Upon hearing this, Qing Sheng said anxiously, "Don't let your imagination run wild. Young Master Wu already has a good friend, and that's Young Master Hua. Don't try to interfere."
Ran Mo looked at him with a smile, "Then the reason you didn't want to say it just now, could it be that you didn't want others to interfere with your search for friends?"
Qingsheng seemed to be hit by what he said, but he refused to admit it immediately. He simply pretended to be angry and turned around and ignored Ranmo.
Ran Mo didn't know whether to laugh or cry. He patted his shoulder and said, "Okay, stop making trouble." Seeing Qing Sheng turned around, he continued, "Let's go, best friends."
The two walked happily home. Qingsheng tried to hold Ranmo's hand, but she easily shook him off. Unwilling to give in, Qingsheng reached out again to grab her. Ranmo quickly ran away. Qingsheng swiftly caught up. The two figures gradually disappeared into the soft night...
