After the poetry reading by the stream, Ranmo rested at home for a day and sorted out his thoughts.

These past few days had been a truly poetic and picturesque time. Qingsheng and Wu Shao's performance last night had impressed her. If she didn't work hard, she was afraid she wouldn't be able to catch up.

Qingsheng didn't come to see her today. She wondered if he was tired from playing yesterday, or if he was hiding in bed, secretly reminiscing about his outstanding performance at the poetry gathering.

Wei Hua was home all day, but the two of them had nothing to talk about. They each did their own thing.

In the evening, Ranmo went out for a stroll. Unexpectedly, she ran into the girl named Pangya. Before she could say anything, Pangya stood in front of her and said with a guilty look on her face, "Ranmo, I'm sorry, I didn't mean it..."

Ran Mo looked at her in confusion, and she continued, "Last time, I didn't mean to tell Wei Hua about you and that young man going to the city. I didn't expect Wei Hua to quarrel with you about it, saying that you were running around..."

When Ran Mo heard about this, he hurriedly said, "It's nothing, it's over a long time ago. She just complained that I didn't tell her earlier. Well, I haven't seen you come to my house these days."

Pang Ya finally breathed a sigh of relief and said with a smile, "There's been something else going on lately." A blush appeared on her chubby face as she spoke.

Ran Mo didn't want to ask, but this outspoken girl couldn't help but said, "I made a new friend."

Ran Mo almost asked, "Male or female?" but thought it was inappropriate and stopped. Actually, there was no need to ask; the expression on Pang Ya's face made it clear that they were definitely not just ordinary friends.

The two chatted about some other things, and when it got dark, they went home.

The next day, Ranmo was struggling with whether to go directly to the lawyer's stall or wait for Qingsheng to come find her. If he didn't come, she couldn't blame her for ignoring him when she got to the lawyer's stall.

It was quite a coincidence. Not long after Wei Hua left, Qing Sheng arrived unexpectedly. He didn't call out from outside the courtyard gate anymore, but came straight to her door. The door was clearly open, and he even pretended to knock.

Ranmo welcomed him into the house. He seemed still in high spirits, chatting with Ranmo about their day at Changting Garden. He also said he wanted to get Ranmo involved in more recreational activities. He had been worried about his own lack of performance, so he hadn't been very keen on letting Ranmo go. He was being a bit petty.

Ran Mo glanced at him and thought to himself, "You're quite honest. I've even taken you to a brothel—a flower house. But you're reluctant to take me to a poetry reading?"

Thinking that he had done well that day, he praised him. Qingsheng was very happy. Ranmo asked leisurely, "Who is the beautiful woman you are referring to in your poem?"

Qingsheng paused, sighed slightly and said, "My mother."

Uh. Ran Mo was slightly stunned. This answer didn't seem to be what he expected. But then again, no one said that "beauty" could only refer to beautiful girls.

Qingsheng tilted his head and said, "Apart from my mother, if you want to understand it as someone you like, that's fine too."

"Okay, I hope you and your beautiful wife will be together soon." Ran Mo acted nonchalant.

Qingsheng looked at her without saying anything. Suddenly, he asked, "What did you mean by that gesture you made to me that day?" He gestured with his fingers a little awkwardly.

Ran Mo smiled and taught him how to make the "OK" gesture, telling him that it was a special hand gesture that meant good or satisfied.

Qingsheng gestured curiously. He then raised his other hand, and, as if possessed by some unknown force, he secretly extended his index finger towards the zero.

Stop! Ranmo almost yelled. Quickly open Qingsheng's hand. Oh my god, what's going on? How can he act freely? Do you know what you're doing?

Qingsheng was startled. He didn't know why Ranmo was so sensitive to a hand gesture. Ranmo couldn't explain the difference between the two techniques to him. So he asked him what he had done yesterday.

Qingsheng told her that yesterday he had asked Wu Shao and the others to help him investigate the matter about her mother and sisters that the old man had mentioned. Unfortunately, there had been no results. He also wanted to come and see if Ranmo's mother had returned today.

No wonder he didn't come yesterday. Ran Mo comforted him, "Looking for someone naturally takes time. My mother hasn't come back yet, but I heard that Aunt Yang from the neighboring house is also going to the county the next day. I asked her to help bring a message to my mother, and try to come back as soon as possible."

Upon hearing this, Qingsheng happily hugged Ranmo's shoulders and said, "I knew you would help me. When I find my mother, I will be the first to introduce you to her."

Ran Mo didn't know what to say about this courtesy. She casually said, "It's rare that you two have been apart for so long, yet you still have such a deep love for each other."

Qingsheng looked at her strangely and said, "Family love, no matter how long or how far apart we are, will always be remembered in our hearts."

Ran Mo's heart was suddenly touched and he remained silent.

Qingsheng slowly sat down beside her. Perhaps because they were already quite familiar with each other, he said softly, "Ranmo, I want to ask you something. Don't be angry." Seeing that Ranmo didn't object, he continued, "I've been at your house for quite a while, but why haven't I ever met your uncle?"

Ran Mo was just about to lose his temper. He said angrily, "We're living well, why would we see him?"

Qingsheng's question undoubtedly brought back painful memories for Ranmo. They, an orphan and a widow, had endured so much hardship because of this. She had never even seen that person since she was born. The children around her teased and criticized her for this. Even the brainless Chinese teacher's assignment of "My Baby" embarrassed her immensely.

Qingsheng didn't expect Ranmo to react so strongly. He panicked and quickly apologized, saying that he shouldn't have asked such a stupid question.

Ran Mo glanced at him, then said with a sigh of relief that it was none of his business. In fact, she had her own thoughts. In her previous life, she had never figured out who that person was, or what their relationship was to this family. She had never thought of asking her mother, simply pretending that person didn't exist.

It was strange to say, because the people around them were usually mean to their family and constantly gossiped about them, yet they kept their mouths shut about this matter, not letting anyone know what was going on. I didn't know if they really didn't know, or if they were keeping it a secret for some reason.

In this life, she had also had this thought before, wondering if she should delve into the source of this matter. Not for any so-called family affection, but just to satisfy her curiosity.

Thinking of this, her expression softened. She looked at Qingsheng and said, "I was a little excited just now. Since you asked, I might as well ask you for a favor. Use your connections to help me find out where that person is now, okay?"

Qingsheng calmed down and said, "That's my service. Do you have any information or clues about that person?"

Ran Mo said coldly: "No, I have never seen him since I was born."

Qingsheng gasped and looked at her in surprise. Then, a mixture of anger and pity flashed in his eyes.

Ranmo rarely mentioned this matter to others in her past and present lives. She could understand Qingsheng's reaction at this moment.

Then I thought about it and couldn't help but laugh. The two of them, one looking for mom, the other looking for dad, all done.

Looking at Ranmo's dazed expression, Qingsheng didn't know how to comfort her. He just felt that the two of them really shared the same fate.

Just as the two were lost in thought, a soprano voice called out from outside the door, "Is there a distinguished guest?"

Before he finished speaking, Wei Hua walked in from the main hall. Qing Sheng hurriedly stood up and greeted her. Wei Hua half-smiled and said, "It's okay, you sit down."

Then she put away her smile and glanced at Ranmo. Ranmo knew what she was thinking. Naturally, he was secretly blaming her for not following the first rule Weihua had agreed upon last time: not being alone with Qingsheng at home.

Ranmo didn't take it to heart. I can only take care of myself, but how can I take care of his legs?

Out of respect for Qingsheng, Weihua couldn't get angry. Instead, she put on a smile and said, "It's been a while since you've tasted my cooking. What would you like to eat today?"

Qingsheng became interested and said with a smile, "Then I won't be polite. Don't be extravagant, since Auntie is not here, we have to be frugal. Let's just have one meat and one vegetable, and some clear mutton soup."

Ran Mo thought, is this what you call saving money? It's enough for the three of us to eat for a few days. But considering that he is a child from a wealthy family, this is probably already frugal.

Wei Hua seemed generous. Her mother had left her plenty of money when she left. She figured, Qing Sheng would come over today and have a good meal. Wouldn't it be enough for her and Ran Mo to make up for it by having some porridge tomorrow?

Unexpectedly, Qingsheng had already put a small cloth bag in her hand, saying that they had spent a lot of money recently, and since his aunt was not here today, he could still make some decisions. This insignificant amount of silver would be used as food expenses for the next few days.

Wei Hua and the other two tried to decline, but Qing Sheng was stubborn and insisted they wouldn't eat here tonight if he didn't accept it. So they had no choice but to give up.

Wei Hua turned around and prepared to go to the market to buy vegetables. Suddenly, she thought of something and asked Ran Mo to go with her. If it weren't for her being a girl and it being inconvenient for her to be alone in a room with Qing Sheng, she really wanted to send Ran Mo to buy the vegetables.

Qingsheng said a little embarrassedly: "Thank you for your help. Is it okay for me to stay here alone?"

Wei Hua smiled generously and said, "Why are you so reserved? If you'd like to come more often, I'll even leave you a key."

Qingsheng was so frightened that he waved his hands. Ranmo laughed inwardly. Weihua was really willing to spend a fortune to please Qingsheng.
