Qingyun's Love: Tiger Boy Falls in Love with a Pretty Lawyer
Chapter 26 Catch His Eyes
Qingsheng has been coming to Ranmo's house quite frequently lately. The young master, who never did housework before, has learned his lesson and has become diligent.
From time to time, he helped his mother weed and water the vegetable patch. Several young cabbages that had not yet fully grown were snapped in half by his ruthless hoe.
This actually added to everyone's amusement. His mother protected him, but Ranmo was harsh, saying he was being ruthless and destroying vegetables. He could only scratch his head and grin. The courtyard was filled with a joyful and warm atmosphere.
Qingsheng considered Ranmo's home his second home. At Ranmo's mother's kind invitation, this place had become his dining hall and resting place.
Qingsheng said he needed to pay for food. His mother scolded him for being so formal; it was just a matter of adding a pair of chopsticks. Besides, he had helped Ranmo with a lot of things, and had also been a huge help (or a disservice) to the family. Haha.
Qingsheng didn't have any extra thoughts. This kind of family atmosphere was what he particularly longed for. Moreover, besides family affection, it seemed that there was also... friendship.
At dinner time, a square table was placed in the center of the main hall. Wei Hua wanted to sit next to Qing Sheng. This brought Ran Mo and Qing Sheng face to face. This boy was incredibly bold, even throwing a wink at Ran Mo when no one was paying attention.
Wei Hua has been showing up in the kitchen more these days than she did in the entire previous year. She's practically monopolizing the kitchen. Sometimes, she'll wave her kitchen knife in the air and mutter, "Don't compete with me. If you do, you'll end up on the chopping block yourself."
Ranmo was happy to have a few more good meals, and his mother could finally rest. Looking at Wei Hua, could it be that she really understood the saying: If you want to capture a man's heart, you must first capture his stomach.
Ranmo had one major advantage that Weihua couldn't match. Even if she wanted to cling to Qingsheng, without a special relationship, it wouldn't be appropriate for her to go out with him. In this respect, Ranmo actually liked the conservative customs of the ancient times.
Not only did she want to go shopping with Qingsheng, she also planned to take him away... not even far away. She already had an irresistible thought in her mind.
While others want to capture his stomach, she wants to capture his eyes.
In front of a field of flowers bathed in golden sunlight, she raised her head and asked solemnly, "Do you want to go hiking?"
Qingsheng nearly jumped for joy when he heard this. "Of course I did. I wanted to take you to Dayue City before, but you didn't go. So where are you going to take me this time?" he said, looking like he had gotten something for nothing.
"I'm planning to go to Xiaoyue County for a stroll." Ranmo's town was under the jurisdiction of Xiaoyue City, which was dozens of miles away from them. It was much more lively there than in a small town. The main advantage of a small town was its convenient transportation.
This geographical structure was similar to the place where Ranmo had lived in his previous life. Their town was built to accommodate the railway station and the railway, and the county seat to which it belonged was forty kilometers away.
When I was in Ranmo Middle School, I once took the bus to the county town alone. I had a lot of fun. This trip is bound to bring a completely new experience.
Qingsheng nodded and asked, "Would your mother be willing to let you go so far away?"
"No problem. We can take the post station's carriage in the morning and arrive in an hour. We can play for half a day and come back before dark." Ran Mo planned to carry out a quick secret operation with Qing Sheng.
"If we can't come back that day, we can stay there for one night." Qingsheng said casually.
Ran Mo glanced at him and thought to himself, "Why would you stay here? If you really want to stay here, you'll definitely torture me to death."
Qingsheng didn't seem to have any other thoughts. "Then let's go tomorrow morning. The weather has been nice these past few days."
Ran Mo nodded, and the two agreed on a time and place to meet. Then they went back to pack up.
Ranmo had quietly told his mother the night before that he would be back late the next day because of a school activity. Qingsheng was also there helping out, so he told her not to worry and to leave dinner for her.
Her mother didn't ask any more questions, but only told her to be more careful.
The next morning, before the stars had faded, Ran Mo got up, packed his small package, and quietly left the house without alerting his family.
At the agreed intersection, Qingsheng was already waiting there. When he saw Ranmo coming, he ran up to her, held her hand, and asked her if she was cold.
Ranmo thought he was quite caring, so he said he wasn't cold. But the guy said his hands were cold and wanted Ranmo to warm them. Ranmo couldn't help but frown.
However, the temperature difference between morning and evening is indeed large in this place. The saying "wear a fur coat in the morning and a gauze dress in the afternoon" is a good description of this.
Qingsheng had initially considered borrowing the Wu family's carriage and driver, but then he changed his mind and decided it wouldn't be a good idea to alert anyone. He still wanted to hang out with Ranmo freely. Just like he wanted to warm his hands now, he certainly couldn't bring himself to say it in front of others.
Seeing the post carriage approaching, Ran Mo could only coax him, "I'll warm you up later on the carriage." The two of them jumped into the carriage and sat next to each other. Under the starlight, they rushed to their favorite place.
After leaving town, the road was relatively flat and uneventful. The unpleasant part was the steep downhill slopes along the way. Each time the car descended, my stomach felt like it was being lifted up, a strange, unpleasant feeling. After a while, once we reached a flatter road, my stomach slowly settled back into its normal position, and the discomfort subsided.
I heard from experienced people that this is because the town is on the edge of the basin, while the county seat is close to the center of the basin. Going from top to bottom will give you a feeling of your stomach lifting up. On the way back, it will feel like your stomach is dropping down.
Qingsheng usually practiced horseback riding and archery, so this fluctuation had no effect on him. But Ranmo couldn't stand it, and soon his face showed an expression as if he had eaten shit.
Qingsheng noticed her discomfort and reached out to gently hold her hand in his, then gently rested her head on his shoulder. Ranmo felt a little more comfortable.
Beyond this small oasis of town lies the endless Gobi Desert. Not a single speck of green can be seen. Only the bizarre shapes and multicolored weathered rocks silently tell passing travelers of a long and turbulent history.
The only hint of life is the underground wells lining the route. These are said to be traditional irrigation systems passed down through the millennia. Circular wellheads are regularly scattered across the Gobi Desert, each connected at its base, forming a hidden channel stretching for hundreds of miles. These channels channel snowwater from the mountains, creating a valuable resource for drinking and irrigation.
After driving for about an hour, they finally arrived at the county town. The vast expanse of greenery and the streetscape came into view. They were both nervous and excited.
The county town is truly magnificent. Its exotic local flavor is intoxicating. Under the lazy golden sunlight, the quaint yet magnificent domed buildings, the bustling market, and the bustling crowds in diverse costumes exude a rich sense of regional charm.
The towering temple exuded a solemn atmosphere. Occasionally, a few white-bearded elders in black robes emerged from the gates, looking mysterious and majestic. A unique and charming melody echoed over the small town, adding to the joyful and peaceful atmosphere. It was tempting to dance along with the music.
They strolled along the street, taking in the sights and sounds, their moods relaxed and at ease. A market dotted the tree-lined avenue, its stalls filled with a wide variety of clothing and other items. Ranmo helped Qingsheng choose a leather belt of the right width, while Qingsheng helped her select an obsidian bracelet. These materials were common in the area and reasonably priced.
Qingsheng had originally wanted to pay for everything, but Ranmo insisted that whoever gave the gift should pay, so Qingsheng had no choice but to agree. After shopping for a while, he still had quite a bit of money left in his pocket. He decided to splurge a bit more and order two bowls of the delicious, sour and fragrant lamb dumplings in a sour soup, which was a real treat.
After enjoying a delicious meal, they strolled to the southern part of the county, where the scenery was endless. The endless wheat fields, sand hills, woods, springs, pastures... decorated a beautiful and unique world.
The sun dispelled the fog in the woods, and the cuckoos' cheerful calls rose and fell. A shepherd boy hurried along the path, herding a herd of goats. They didn't even have time to exchange a word.
Revisiting this desert bordering the town, Ranmo felt incredibly happy. Last time, she'd enjoyed it all by herself. Now, sharing it with others felt wonderful. Qingsheng had never been to a desert before; it felt new and magnificent.
Enjoying the majestic desert scenery and breathing the vibrant breath of life in the oasis, they ran, rolled, shouted and sang on the endless sand dunes.
Qingsheng even turned over and straddled the ridge, clinging tightly to its exposed skin and moving back and forth like a horse. The entire sand hill was in his submission.
When he saw Ranmo watching him, he decided to do something bad. He jumped off the "Sand Horse" with a somersault, grabbed Ranmo, and gave him a frontal bear hug. Before Ranmo could react, the two of them rolled all the way from the ridge to the bottom of the sand hill.
The soft sand didn't hurt them. But their positions were rather awkward. Ran Mo lay sprawled on the sand, his hands covering his forehead. Qing Sheng, on his stomach, lay facedown on the ground, his face pressed to the side, motionless.
Ran Mo was about to scold him, but he bent over, pointed to an abandoned mud house standing alone not far away and said, "I'm going to go there to relieve myself." Then he ran towards it without looking back.
Ranmo looked at him in bewilderment, looking at the abandoned hut where locals might occasionally stay. Perhaps he had gone to relieve himself. Ranmo didn't think much of it and continued to admire the scenery of the sand dunes.
After a long time, the guy slowly emerged from the mud house. He walked unsteadily, and when he reached Ran Mo, his expression was somewhat shimmering.
Ran Mo was too lazy to ask and said to him, "Let's go take a look at the woods over there." Qing Sheng nodded.
The golden sand dunes bordered a deep green forest, a truly wonderful natural combination. They entered the woods and carefully examined the vegetation. Deep within the gloomy woods, they discovered a spring. The bubbling water was both curious and a little frightening.
At the edge of the woods stood a farmhouse. Its bright yellow mud walls were half hidden by the tranquil trees, half exposed to the brilliant sunlight. It had a fairytale-like, dreamlike feel.
This small town, with its people's looks, attire, and local customs, feels unique and warm. I envy the people who live here.
As the sun sets, the atmosphere, thick with yellow light and shadow, has a flavor of ancient Greece or Rome. History seems so far away from them, yet suddenly so close.
Qingsheng said he wanted to hear Ranmo sing. He sang the song "Free and Easy" that he had sung the other day, which was very touching.
Ran Mo smiled and said, "Let me sing a new song for you." Then, she walked and sang the cheerful song "Destined in Previous Life".
"We used to run into each other on the street quite often, but we never knew each other. I longed to see you every day; it was my dream.
Today we met again on the street, and you nodded to me. I smiled back at you, expressing my deep affection for you.
It seems we must have been destined to meet in a previous life, otherwise why would we run into each other so often? Now we have become close friends, and the memories are particularly sweet..."
This song perfectly captures the small details and emotions of everyday life. Young people love beauty and want others to appreciate their beauty. But Ranmo wasn't very sociable back then. She could only hope to encounter attractive people she admired on campus, on the streets, or in the alleys. Even just a glance would satisfy her.
Just like the song goes, this is how she felt when she encountered them by chance. She longed for such a chance encounter every day. Unfortunately, when they did, they barely even glanced at her. When someone's gaze strayed towards her, she quickly lowered her head, not daring to look directly. When she mustered the courage to look up again, they were no longer looking at her, having drifted away.
Fortunately, she has finally achieved the "right result" and finally met such a person with whom she has become acquainted. It is worth her many chance encounters and glances back at him before they were able to hold hands and accompany each other in this life.
Qingsheng followed her, his eyes twinkling as he listened attentively. The beautiful song carried his thoughts into a beautiful reverie. However, even amidst his ecstasy, a slightly complicated expression crossed his face.
They left the woods and returned to the edge of the desert. The two young men chased and played freely on the vast expanse of sand, like young swallows in spring spreading their wings and soaring towards the sunlight, their handsome figures gradually blending into the golden sunset...
Time flew by. They had no choice but to bid farewell. Before returning, they stopped by the market for a delicious meal of fried pork noodles. Then, they made it back to town before dark, concluding their joyful and enjoyable journey.
