The fifth day of December is the day to set out for Jian'an County.

On this day, it was still dark and the eastern sky was still immersed in the deep night. Only the occasional twinkling stars dotted the silence.

Because there were four carriages filled with food and daily necessities, and they estimated that it would take a long time to walk to the dock, they left early.

The chill of the early morning wind was biting and piercing, as if even the air itself had frozen, and the gusts of wind on my face stung like a knife. The carriage slowly moved forward in this cold wind, its wheels creaking across the frosty ground, a sound that was particularly clear in the stillness of the early morning.

Using the excuse of going to the boss lady to get some radish cakes and wontons, Jing Chunxi led Xiaoman and Tangshuang on horseback and rode in the front.

The three of them rode on horses, the sound of their hooves ringing out in the stillness of the early morning. Soon after they left the East City Gate, they had left the entire convoy far behind.

The north wind howled, and even though they all wore veils, the cold still seeped in through the cracks in their hats, stinging their faces. However, Sugar Frosting seemed particularly excited. The thought of going to an unknown new city was evident on her face, and her eyes sparkled with anticipation.

Along the way, she chattered non-stop, asking about things they didn't know about Jian'an County, leaving them speechless. But Xiaoman and Jing Chunxi were still infected by her enthusiasm and let her express herself, occasionally chiming in, adding a bit of warmth and vitality to the cold morning, making the journey seem much shorter.

When the three of them arrived at Gantang Town, the sky was just beginning to turn pale. There was not a single person on the streets, and the entire town was still immersed in tranquility.

However, the boss lady's breakfast shop had already removed its door panels, and steaming white mist was spreading out from the shop, like a warm cloud, dispelling the chill around them in the cold morning and warming their hearts.

When the proprietress saw them dismounting, she immediately greeted them warmly: "You're finally here. I asked someone to help me make thirty trays of radish cakes yesterday. Look, they are all over the shop." As she spoke, she gestured with her hands to the neatly arranged radish cakes, a proud smile on her face.

When they walked in, they saw steamers stacked high, five or six layers high, covering three full tables. It really took up quite a bit of space. If it had come later and there were more customers, there would have been no place to sit. Fortunately, they had picked up the goods early, so they shouldn't miss out on the boss lady's business.

As the proprietress spoke, she was busy taking out steaming radish cakes from the steamer on her stove and placing a few plates on them.

She said, "I know you guys are going out early today and you won't be able to have breakfast, so I steamed a lot in advance. Eat it quickly while it's hot to get rid of the cold." She wiped her hands with her apron, and her smile was like the warm sun in winter, making people feel extremely warm.

Jing Chunxi didn't hesitate and sat down. He had left the house without eating breakfast, and the north wind had cut his face like a knife while he was riding. It was numb and painful, and his stomach had been rumbling for a long time.

She reached out and scooped up a radish cake and stuffed it into her mouth. She finished it in four or five mouthfuls, forgetting to breathe because it was so hot. After finishing one, she took another one in her hand and immediately stood up and urged, "Xiao Man, hurry up."

This unexpected urging scared Xiaoman so much that he almost choked despite his full mouth, but he still stood up quickly.

Sugar Frosting was confused as to why the lady was rushing people. She took another bite of the carrot cake and said, "What's the rush? Aren't we waiting for them here?"

She looked at the dozens of trays of radish cakes in front of her and thought that it was impossible for three people to tie them up on a horse and take them away.

When the proprietress heard this, she stopped what she was doing and looked at Jing Chunxi, as if waiting for her explanation.

"No, Xiaoman and I have to leave quickly. The car hasn't arrived yet, and we can't carry these thirty drawers. You can eat the frosting slowly while waiting, and we'll put it on the car later. Also, remember to pack something hot for them to eat on the boat. Xiaoman and I will go to the dock first." Jing Chunxi said as she stuffed the remaining radish cakes into her mouth. Her movements seemed a little hurried, and she obviously didn't want to waste too much time.

Tang Shuang was anxious when she heard this. She felt a little abandoned, and the radish cake in her mouth no longer tasted good. She watched Jing Chunxi and Xiao Man prepare to leave, feeling a little wronged. She said unconvincedly, "How can that be? I don't want to be here alone."

Little guy, with stubbornness in his eyes.

But looking down at the radish cake in her hand, and then at the three bowls of "clear soup" that the proprietress had already scooped up, Tang Shuang hesitated again. She was in a state of embarrassment, not knowing whether to eat or sit.

Wouldn't it be a waste if she left?

She pouted and muttered softly, "Really? I can't even have breakfast in peace." Although her voice was very low, Jing Chunxi still heard it.

Xiao Man naturally knew why the young lady was in such a hurry to leave. He took a piece of wax paper from the counter and wrapped up the two plates of uneaten radish cakes. He smiled at Tang Xing and teased, "The clear soup is already here. If you don't leave some for me, I won't be able to finish these three bowls."

He deliberately dragged out his words, which made Tang Shuang even more unhappy. Tang Shuang pouted and said angrily, "Can't you just finish eating before leaving?" Her eyes made it seem as if Jing Chunxi and Xiao Man were deliberately trying to embarrass her.

Jing Chunxi gave her a direct warning: "You haven't been punished yet!" Although her words were brief, they carried an unquestionable tone.

Upon hearing this, Tang Shuang didn't dare to say anything. She could only sit down sullenly and continue to nibble on her carrot cake. She was unhappy and ate silently, her movements much slower than before.

Jing Chunxi didn't get angry. Instead, he pointed at the icing and laughed, saying to the proprietress, "How much is the total? Ask this fat girl for it."

Tang Shuang rolled her eyes at Xiao Man, remained silent, and became even more unhappy.
