The Ling family manor in April was full of greenery, yet very deserted.

The door to the study was half-open and half-closed. Before Ling Che could even reach the door, he heard bursts of labored coughing from inside.

Just as he was about to push the door open, he heard Ling Shuang's worried voice from inside.

"Dad, it's already April, why hasn't your cough healed yet?"

Ling Gu stood by the desk and waved his hand. "I'm old, and my body is no longer useful. I might fall asleep one day and never wake up again."

"Don't say such unlucky things." Ling Shuang comforted him, "Just listen to the doctor's advice and take good care of your health. You will enjoy the happiness of family in the future."

"Family happiness?" Ling Gu smiled wistfully. "I, Ling Gu, have dominated the business world for half my life, but I never imagined I'd be confined to this vast manor in my old age."

"Xiao Che is doing this for your own good," Ling Shuang said. "Xiao Che has had a hard life since childhood. Without parents, he only has you as his grandfather. He asked you to stay in the manor and assigned people to watch over you because he wanted to protect your safety."

"Yeah." Ling Gu smiled bitterly. "You know what? Thanks to these people, the garden has become more lively. Otherwise, the weeds in the garden would be taller than people."

"Just relax and take good care of yourself. Xiao Che isn't pregnant yet, and Xiao Chen isn't married yet. Once they both have children, you'll have great-grandchildren, and your garden will be much more lively."

When Ling Gu mentioned this, the smile on his face disappeared. After a while, he shook his head and sighed, "What a bad fate!"

The tall figure outside the study stood still, and was slightly startled when he heard the sigh from inside the room.

Seeing Ling Gu's bad face, Ling Shuang hurriedly brought him a cup of tea, "Dad, what did you say?"

Ling Gu pushed the teacup she brought over and slowly walked to a wooden chair beside him, leaning on his cane. "None of them are listening! Well, I told him to stop investigating, but he's just too stubborn. He insists on getting to the bottom of this unbearable truth, even at the risk of his own life!"

"Well, I told her to go and leave, but she refused to listen and insisted on staying with me!" Ling Gu sat on a wooden chair and sighed heavily.

Ling Shuang understood the first half of his words, but the second half was a bit confusing.

She asked uncertainly, "She? You mean Xiao Che's wife?"

"If it's not her, then who else could it be!" Ling Gu said with a sullen face, "If she continues to be entangled with A Che, it's a bad fate! I let her leave A Che, it's the best outcome for them all!"

He looked at Ling Shuang, "Xiao Shuang, if Ah Che continues to be with her, he will never have children in this life, the Ling family will not have incense, and..."

He frowned and sighed again, "There's a deep blood feud between them, and their relationship is doomed to have no happy ending! Ruyi can't have children, maybe it's Qiao He's fault!"

Ling Shuang looked at Ling Gu in disbelief, and a look of shock appeared on her usually elegant and intellectual face.

Before she could fully understand Ling Gu's words, she heard the panicked voice of the servant outside the door.

"Master! Why are you here so late?"

The two people in the study immediately looked outside the half-open door, and Ling Gu's cloudy yet wise eyes trembled slightly.

Ling Shuang hurried to open the door, and as soon as he opened it, he was confronted by a tall figure.

He stood upright at the door, his handsome face hidden in the dark night behind him, making it impossible to see his expression.

But his hands hanging by his sides were clenched into fists, as if he was suppressing the anger in his chest.

"Xiao Che?" Ling Shuang asked hurriedly, "When did you come?"

Ling Che walked past Ling Shuang and strode in, looking at Ling Gu with deep eyes, "It seems that I came at the wrong time and disturbed Grandpa and Auntie's conversation."

Ling Gu knew his grandson well, so he naturally heard the different meaning in his words.

It seemed that he must have been standing at the door for a long time, and even listened to all the conversations in the house.

Ling Gu did not hide anything and looked up at him from his chair. "A Che, if you have anything to ask, just ask."

Ling Che stood in front of him, looking at his aged face and white hair, his eyes cold as he smiled softly, "Is it Qiao He?"

"Yes." Ling Gu didn't hesitate at all.

"When did you know?" Ling Che asked coldly.

Ling Gu looked at him and said, "Last month."

"Where are the clues? Where is the evidence?" Ling Che asked. "How did Grandpa know about this when I haven't even found it?"

Ling Gu knew he didn't want to believe it, so he sighed and said, "I received an anonymous letter on the day Zhuang Ce died. It contained a photo of Qiao He and Zhuang Ce. What Zhuang Ce did was definitely related to Qiao He."

"What can a photo prove?" Ling Che asked with a smile, "Grandpa, you're not that foolish, are you?"

"A photo can't prove anything, but Ah Che, you've been investigating for so long, have you checked Qiao He? With your keen sense, you wouldn't have suspected him, right?"

Ling Gu looked at Ling Che with his wise eyes, "Do you not believe it, or do you not want to believe it?"

The veins on the back of Ling Che's clenched fist were bulging. He really hadn't checked on Qiao He.

However, when investigating Ling Xiu De, Qiao He was implicated, and he subconsciously avoided suspicion.

Whether it is disbelief or unwillingness to believe, the answer is obvious.

Ling Gu said, "It's because of that girl Ruyi that you're unwilling to investigate Qiao He. Ah Che, the truth you've been looking for for so many years is now right in front of you. All you have to do is move your fingers to investigate Qiao He, and the truth you want will be revealed."

The atmosphere between the grandfather and grandson was about to reach a freezing point. Seeing this, Ling Shuang quickly looked at Ling Che, "Xiao Che, your grandfather has been--"

Before she could finish her words, she was interrupted by Ling Che's cold question.

"So, you did look for Qiao Ruyi?"

Ling Gu listened to his questioning, stood up and smiled helplessly, "Because I know you too well. You have been investigating the revenge for your father's murder for so many years and finally eradicated Zhuang Ce. You will not stop at the last step. But Ruyi stands between you and your father's murderer. Just like you now, you want the truth to come out and give an explanation to your dead father and the broken Ling family, but you are unwilling to investigate Ruyi's biological father."

He stepped forward and patted Ling Che's shoulders twice, his eyes filled with kindness. "Grandpa is doing this for your own good. Everything Grandpa does is for your own good. Ah Che, when the truth is laid before you, you only have two choices: either accept it and part ways with that girl, or ignore it and live your whole life in love with the daughter of your father's murderer."

He is a selfish grandfather. He doesn't want to give this difficult choice to his grandson, so he selfishly lets Qiao Ruyi make the decision first.

Unfortunately, she didn't do it.

Ling Gu turned around and stopped looking at Ling Che's expression. "No matter what you choose, Grandpa blesses you."

After he finished speaking, he sighed deeply, "I hope you can get over the hurdle in your heart."
