Chapter 292 Madman (1)
"The headmaster is very busy. He won't run to the Forbidden Forest just because of a word from you." Snape walked out from behind Lamia with a sarcastic look on his face.
"Good evening, Professor. Mr. Dumbledore has to go. Harry is still there. Mr. Crouch..."
"Stop talking nonsense!" Snape said, his dark eyes fixed on Lamia. "Do you know what you're talking about?"
"Mr. Crouch!" Lamia continued, "The Ministry official, he is in the Forbidden Forest now, he wants to see Dumbledore, and he has Harry kidnapped..."
"It's a good story, but the headmaster is very busy," said Snape.
His thin lips moved, forcing out an extremely ugly smile.
"In that case, then you can just wait to receive Harry Potter's body." Lamia sneered and turned around. "By the way, besides that, there's also the matter of the You-Know-Who. Of course, Professor, you shouldn't be interested in any of that."
Snape's expression became serious. Lamia didn't know what he was thinking, but her plan had succeeded, because at this moment, the stone wall behind her slowly lowered, revealing an old man with a white beard and wearing a green robe. It was Dumbledore.
Lamia guessed from the beginning that Dumbledore must be able to hear her voice, otherwise Snape would not have appeared by chance.
Dumbledore had a slightly surprised expression on his face, as if he had no idea what was going on. "What's going on?" he asked, looking from Lamia to Snape.
"Professor," Lamia said, stepping aside and avoiding Snape before he could speak, "Mr. Crouch is in the Forbidden Forest now, and he demands to speak to you, now."
After Lamia finished speaking, Dumbledore still did not move.
Lamia thought Dumbledore didn't believe her and wanted to ask some basic questions. She knew that Harry was the only person Dumbledore trusted the most, so she could certainly accept that. But Dumbledore didn't ask anything.
"In that case, please lead the way." Dumbledore said without hesitation. He raised his leg and walked beside Lamia. Only Snape was left behind him, and the expression on his face became even uglier.
"Why is Mr. Crouch here, and what did he say?" asked Dumbledore as they sped down the stairs.
"Why don't you go and listen to it yourself? Anyway, it's about Harry and the mysterious man." The content was too complicated. Lamia didn't want to waste time on it, and she couldn't explain it clearly.
"Is that so?" said Dumbledore. Although his tone gave no hint of his current plans, his pace quickened and he and Lamia hurried out into the darkness.
"By the way, sir, Mr. Crouch's behavior is very abnormal. He has completely forgotten his identity and seems to be unconscious." Lamia said as she walked quickly beside Dumbledore. "Also, he held Harry and wouldn't let him leave until he saw you, and he kept talking to a tree."
"Really?" Dumbledore looked at Lamia with some doubt. "Nockturn, I hope this is true."
Lamia felt a little disappointed. She had always known that Dumbledore would not trust her wholeheartedly, but she had never expected that he would actually doubt this matter.
"Of course, sir, you are now on the road to verification." Lamia sighed and said.
"So, do you think the You-Know-Who will suddenly appear?" Dumbledore paused and continued.
"I don't think so soon, sir." Lamia didn't expect Dumbledore to doubt this. This was too unfair to her. You know, she was the one who least wanted to have anything to do with Tom.
The two arrived quickly.
"Where are they?" asked Dumbledore, who seemed aware of what was happening around him.
"That way," said Lamia, hurrying ahead of Dumbledore and leading him through the trees.
Dumbledore couldn't hear Crouch's voice, and although Lamia didn't understand why she couldn't hear any sound either, she remembered the place she had just left clearly. It was not far ahead, at most two more bushes away.
"Harry?" Lamia called.
Strangely, no one answered.
"Viktor?" Lamia called again.
Still no one answered.
Dumbledore's eyes had grown cold, but he said nothing.
"They are here," Lamia said to Dumbledore, "I am sure of it."
"Lumos," said Dumbledore, lighting his wand and holding it up.
The narrow beam of light moved back and forth between the dark tree trunks, illuminating the ground below, and then fell on two pairs of feet.
Dumbledore hurried forward to find Harry and Krum lying curled up on the forest floor, seemingly unconscious.
There was no sign of Mr. Crouch around, so Dumbledore bent down and gently lifted one of Harry's eyelids.
"He's passed out," he whispered.
He peered out into the surrounding trees, his half-moon lenses gleaming in the dim light of his wand.
"What are you going to do now? Do you need me to call anyone?" Lamia asked. She just said it casually, Dumbledore would not let her call anyone.
Sure enough, Dumbledore quickly shook his head and said, "No, just stay here and don't move."
Lamia was more than willing to do so, and what happened next was none of her business. As a student, she had done enough, even though Dumbledore said so out of suspicion of her.
Dumbledore raised his wand high and pointed it in the direction of Hagrid's hut. Lamia saw a silver object flash from the wand, like a pale bird, flying through the bushes, but it soon disappeared.
Then Dumbledore leaned over Harry and Krum again, pointed his wand at them, and whispered, "Awake!"
Krum was the first to open his eyes, his face blank, but he quickly reacted. When he saw Dumbledore, he struggled to sit up, but Dumbledore put a hand on his shoulder and told him to lie still.
"He hit me!" Krum covered his head with his hands and muttered, "That madman, he hit me! Just when I was helping Potter up, he attacked me from behind!"
"Everything is fine now. Take a good rest," said Dumbledore.
Next was Harry. The first thing he did when he woke up was to complain about the pain in his knee. Dumbledore took a quick look and found that there was nothing serious.
Lamia was watching from the side the whole time, she didn't say a word, now was not the time for her to speak.
"Harry, your knee is only injured. Madam Pomfrey will heal you," said Dumbledore.
Then there was a thunderous sound of footsteps, and Hagrid appeared, breathless, followed by Fang, his bow and arrow in his hand.
"Professor Dumbledore!" he said, his eyes wide. "Harry - what are you -?"
"Hagrid, go and fetch Professor Karkaroff," said Dumbledore. "His student has been assaulted. Then, please inform Professor Moody—"
"That's not necessary, Dumbledore," a deep voice whimpered. "I'm here."
Moody limped towards them on crutches, his wand lit.
"Damn legs," he said angrily. "Should have come sooner... What happened? Snape seemed to say Crouch—"
