Chapter 251 Five Warriors (5)
"Listen," said Harry, taking a long breath. "For the last time! I didn't put my name in that goblet, and neither did Lamia! Someone else had to have done it."
Ron raised his eyebrows.
"Haha, I believe you, brother, but why would they do this? Do they admire you and want you to be a hero?"
"I don't know," Harry said. He had a feeling Ron wouldn't believe what he was about to say. Actually, no one would believe it. But he shook his head and said seriously, "Maybe it's to kill me, but I don't know about Lamia."
Ron's eyebrows shot up so high they seemed to disappear in his hair, but his eyes were suddenly animated.
"I knew it, Harry, it must be like this!" Ron believed it unexpectedly. Not only that, he also reconstructed the picture in Harry's mind in a very realistic way.
"But why didn't you tell me earlier? You know you could have told me the truth," he said.
"That's a great thing, if you don't want others to know, that's fine, but I don't understand why you lied. You didn't get into trouble for it, did you?
"The Fat Lady's friend, Violet, has told us all that Dumbledore has chosen you. A thousand Galleons, isn't it? And you don't have to take the end-of-year exams. That's perfect! I'm so eager to take them!"
"It's different, Ron, we didn't do this voluntarily, this is a huge conspiracy!" Harry said seriously.
"And most importantly, we're no match for those senior students!" said Harry. He was beginning to feel annoyed that Ron couldn't grasp the key point and could only see the meager benefits in front of him.
"Yes, yes, Harry," said Ron, using the same skeptical tone as Cedric. "But you could have taken me with you. You know how much I'm worried about Snape's exams. Besides, I could have helped you. I'm not a fool. I could have been very useful."
"You certainly make that impression on me now," said Harry grumpily, throwing up his sleeves and walking into the room.
"Hey, how can you say that, Harry!" Ron shouted as he followed into the room. "I said, could you please talk to Lamia and ask her to put my name in as well? I really don't want to take Snape's Potions exam!"
Lamia was completely speechless. She never knew Ron was so stupid. Harry had made it so clear, but he actually thought it was her who put her name in.
On Sunday, after Lamia had packed up, she was about to walk to the Great Hall, but she saw Hermione and Harry on the way. They came downstairs anxiously, without even looking at the Great Hall, and quickly crossed the hall.
Soon they were striding along the lawn that stretched toward the lake.
Lamia quickly followed.
Durmstrang's large ship lay at anchor on the lake, casting a dark shadow in the water.
"Hermione, Harry, it's me." Lamia called out to the two people who were walking fast in front of her. After they turned around, she strode over to them.
It was a cold morning, and as they kept walking and chewing bread, Harry told Hermione everything that had happened since he left the Gryffindor table the night before, including the misunderstandings about him and Lamia, and of course Ron's distrust of him.
To his great relief, Hermione accepted his statement without reservation and expressed sympathy for their situation.
"Of course I know you two didn't sign up," Hermione said when he finished describing what happened in the room next to the Great Hall. "I noticed it when Dumbledore said your name. The look on your face was enough to prove that it wasn't your will."
Hermione concealed the second half. She also noticed Lamia's expression at that time, which was completely different from Harry's. It was more like she had known it for a long time.
"But the question is, who put your name in? You know, Moody is right, Harry, I don't think any student can do this. There is no way a student can cheat the Goblet of Fire, nor can they get past Dumbledore's rule--" Hermione continued, paying close attention to Lamia's expression. It seemed that she and Ron had the same idea in their hearts.
"It wasn't me who voted." Lamia said casually, as if she didn't care whether she believed it or not.
Hermione was about to say something when Harry quickly interrupted her.
"Have you seen Ron?" he said.
Hermione hesitated, pondering Harry's intentions.
"Well... I saw him eating breakfast," she said.
"Does he still think I signed up myself?"
"Of course not, I don't think so, no." Hermione said unnaturally.
"'Probably not', what does that mean?"
"Oh, Harry, don't you understand?" Hermione said helplessly, "He's jealous!"
"Jealous?" Harry asked incredulously. "Jealous of what? Would he want to make a fool of himself in front of the whole school?"
"Think about it," Hermione said patiently. "You know, it's always you who gets all the attention. I know it's not your fault," she added quickly when she saw Harry's mouth open in anger.
"I know you're not pursuing this, but, how should I put it - you know, Ron has to compete with so many brothers at home, and you are his best friend and so famous - every time people see you, he is ignored, and he endures it silently and never says a word. I think this time it just made him unable to bear it..."
"Good," said Harry bitterly. "That's very good. Tell him I'm always available to trade with him if he wants. Tell him I'm welcome to trade with me... Everywhere I go people stare at my forehead like an idiot..."
"I'm not going to tell him anything," Hermione said flatly. "Go and tell him yourself. That's the only way to solve it."
"I don't want to chase him around and try to persuade him to grow up!" said Harry. "When will he believe that I'm unhappy? Maybe when I break my neck or -" His voice was so loud that several owls in the nearby trees fluttered into flight.
"That's no joke," Hermione whispered. "That's absolutely no joke." She looked extremely worried. "Harry, I've been thinking - you know what we're going to do, don't you? As soon as we get back to the castle?"
