Chapter 219 Mascot
Draco first looked at Lamia with dissatisfaction and grievance, then shifted his gaze to Harry, Ron and Hermione. He pulled the corners of his mouth sarcastically and sat between his parents.
"What a bore," muttered Ron, and he, Harry, and Hermione turned their gaze back to the playing field. Then Ludo Bagman burst into the box.
"Is everyone ready?" he said, his round face gleaming like a giant ball of cheese. "Minister—shall we begin?"
"You say start, then start, Ludo," said Fudge kindly.
Ludo drew his wand, pointed at his throat and said, "Loud!" Then his words resounded like thunder throughout the packed stadium, his voice echoing above their heads and carrying loudly to every corner of the stands.
"Ladies and gentlemen...welcome! Welcome to watch the 422nd Quidditch World Cup Finals!"
The audience erupted in cheers and applause, and the scene was truly lively with thousands of flags waving simultaneously and the national anthem sung in disarray.
The blackboard opposite them now shows: Bulgaria: 0, Ireland: 0.
"Okay, enough chit-chat, allow me to introduce - the mascot of the Bulgarian national team!"
On the right side of the stands was a neat bright red square, which at this moment erupted in loud cheers.
"I wonder what they've brought," said Mr. Weasley, leaning forward from his seat. "Ah!" He jerked off his glasses and wiped them hastily on his robes. "Veela!"
Lamia had never seen a Veela before, and she thought they were some interesting magical creatures, so she stared at the venue intently.
"What is charm—"
Harry's question was answered when he saw a hundred Veela gliding onto the field.
Lamia suddenly felt extremely bored, and her originally straight back bent down. Lamia turned her head and immediately laughed.
Compared to the Veela, the reactions of Harry and Ron next to them were obviously more interesting to watch.
Harry was puzzled for a moment, unable to guess what they were: why their skin had a soft, moon-like glow, why their hair flowed behind them even without wind, but then the music started and Harry stopped wondering if she was real - in fact, he couldn't think about anything at all.
The Veela began to dance, and Harry's mind went blank, filled with a sense of utter joy. Nothing else in the world mattered, as long as he could keep watching the Veela, because if they stopped dancing, something terrible would happen...
As the Veela's dance grew faster and faster, wild, unformed ideas began to whirl through Harry's dizzy mind. He wanted to do something truly spectacular, and do it now. How about jumping from the balcony into the gymnasium? That looked good... but would it be spectacular enough?
"Harry, what are you doing?" Hermione's voice came from a distance.
The music stopped.
Harry blinked blankly. He stood with one leg propped up on the wall of the compartment. Beside him, Ron was frozen in place, as if about to dive from the diving board.
Lamia had never seen Harry like this before, and it was much more fun than those Veela, but Hermione was still worried that Harry would fall, so she spoke up to remind them.
Lamia felt that Hermione wanted to remind Ron, otherwise she wouldn't have spoken to him.
Suddenly, there was a loud noise in the gymnasium. Lamia looked over and saw that it was the wizards roaring angrily.
They didn't want the Veela to leave.
Harry had the same idea as them, but fortunately Ron had always supported the Bulgarian team, so he could do the same as Ron.
Meanwhile, Ron was absentmindedly tearing the shamrocks from his hat. Mr. Weasley leaned over with a smile and snatched the hat from Ron's hands.
"You'll need it later," said Mr. Weasley, "after the Irish performance."
"Hmm?" Ron snorted, gaping at the Veela who were now lined up at one side of the field.
Hermione made a loud smacking sound and reached out to pull Harry back to his seat. "If you didn't know, you'd think you were asleep," she said.
Lamia looked at Harry teasingly, making him wish he could hide somewhere, his head lowered in shame, his ears red.
The stadium was still very lively.
Ludo Bagman's voice boomed, "And now, please raise your wands in the air—welcome the mascot of the Irish national team!"
Then, there was just a whooshing sound, and a huge, green and gold thing flew into the stadium, like a big comet.
It flew around the stadium, then broke into two smaller comets, each heading for a set of goalposts. Suddenly, an arch of rainbow appeared across the entire field, connecting the two large, shining balls.
There were oohs and ahhs from the crowd, as if they were watching a fireworks display, when the rainbow faded and the huge, glittering balls connected and blended together to form a huge, dazzling shamrock that rose high into the air and began to circle over the stands.
Something crackled and fell from above, like golden raindrops—
"Brilliant!" Ron shouted as the Shamrocks swirled above them, dropping huge gold coins onto their heads and seats.
Lamia squinted her eyes and looked carefully at the clover. She found that it was actually made up of countless little men wearing red vests and mustaches, each holding a small golden or green lamp.
what is this?
Lamia looked at the creatures curiously. Each little person looked very different, but their figures and clothes seemed to be made from the same mold.
"It's a leprechaun!" said Mr. Weasley amidst a roar of applause and a scramble under the seats for the gold coins.
Lamia nodded secretly. The name sounded like their name. It was indeed a leprechaun.
"Here you go," Ron shouted happily, pressing a handful of gold coins into Harry's hand. "Now you can't use your telescope to buy my birthday present!"
The giant clover vanished, and the leprechauns slowly landed on the field opposite the veela, sitting down cross-legged and ready to watch the game.
"And now, ladies and gentlemen, a warm welcome - the Bulgarian National Quidditch Team! I introduce to you - Dimitrov!"
A red-clad figure on a broomstick, almost too fast to be seen, flew onto the field from a portal below, to the wild cheers of the Bulgarian supporters.
"Ivanova!"
A second figure in bright red robes flew out.
