Chapter 206 Dinner
"Oh, dear," she said angrily, and tapped her wand again at a sideways dustpan, which immediately jumped up and slid across the floor, picking up the potatoes one by one.
"The busier it gets, the worse it gets!" Mrs. Weasley waved her wand again, and the large saucepan of butter on the table began to bubble.
Lamia and the others looked at each other, and no one dared to speak. This was because Mrs. Weasley's expression was too annoyed. Lamia felt that she would use her wand to attack anyone she was impatient with in the next second.
"How about we go? I don't think we can help much." Hermione whispered in Lamia's ear. She didn't know what to do now. Mrs. Weasley's expression was so terrible. She didn't know what had just happened to make her like this.
But Ron obviously heard it too, and he didn't want to stay here either.
"Come on," Ron said, grabbing a handful of cutlery from an open drawer and walking to the front first, looking back. "Let's go help Bill and Charlie."
"Of course!" Harry exclaimed.
They followed Ron and ran out together. Lamia, held by Hermione's arm, kept looking back at the busy Mrs. Weasley. She didn't notice that they had left her and went out the back door into the garden.
They had only taken a few steps when they saw Crookshanks, Hermione's ginger, bow-legged cat.
It was scurrying about the garden, its bottlebrush tail erect, chasing some muddy object that looked like a potato with legs.
"That's a goblin!" said Harry in surprise.
"What's a goblin?" Lamia looked over carefully. She had only seen the name of this creature in books, and they looked quite different from the illustrations in the books. Not to mention Lamia, even Hermione didn't recognize it because this goblin was so special.
It was less than ten inches tall, and its hard little feet clattered quickly across the garden and into a Wellington boot that was lying by the door.
Crookshanks dug a claw into his boot, trying to grab the goblin, and Lamia heard the goblin cackling madly inside.
Just then, there was a deafening crash from the other end of the house. Lamia started and clenched her fists. As they walked into the garden, she discovered what had caused the commotion.
Lamia saw that Bill and Charlie both had their wands drawn and were maneuvering two battered old tables across the lawn, crashing into each other, each trying to knock the other out of the air.
Fred and George cheered, and Ginny laughed.
With a bang, Bill's desk hit Charlie's desk and knocked one of its legs off.
At this moment, there was a crisp banging sound above their heads. They looked up at the same time and saw Percy's head sticking out of the third-floor window.
"Can't you keep your voice down?" he yelled.
"Sorry, Percy," said Bill, grinning, "to bother you while you were mending the bottom of the cauldron. How's it doing?"
"That's terrible," Percy said grumpily, slamming the window.
Bill and Charlie chuckled softly, and used their wands to guide the table to land steadily on the grass. Then, Bill lightly tapped his wand to reattach the table leg and conjured up a tablecloth out of thin air.
By seven o'clock both tables were groaning under the weight of Mrs. Weasley's delicious dishes.
The nine Weasleys, Lamia, Harry, and Hermione all sat down to eat under the clear, deep blue night sky.
Across the table, Percy was telling his father about his report on the thickness of the crucible bottom.
Everyone ate with relish, especially Harry. He hadn't had anything good to eat all summer, and even if he had, it was Dudley's, not his. Harry was so busy devouring chicken, ham pie, boiled potatoes and salad that he didn't have time to talk at all.
Except Lamia.
She had no appetite for these obviously delicious dishes, but Mrs. Weasley, unaware of her secret, saw that she barely touched her dinner and assumed that her cooking was not to Lamia's liking.
This was really Lamia's negligence. She had always brought the food to her room before, so Mrs. Weasley had no idea how much she ate or how she ate. But today there happened to be a dinner party, and Lamia had no way to bring the food back. The key point was that she had no reason to do so.
"Baby Lamia, why don't you eat today? Did I not cook well?" Mrs. Weasley asked nervously. She liked Lamia very much and of course hoped that she would like herself, especially the dinner that she was most satisfied with.
But Mrs. Weasley was already prepared for Lamia not to like dinner tonight, and she even planned to make something for Lamia alone later.
"If you really can't eat it, I'll make you another blueberry pie?" Mrs. Weasley recalled that Lamia seemed to like it very much.
Lamia did not respond, or rather, she did not know how to respond. She really did not want to hurt such a lady who made her feel such deep maternal love. She did not want to lie, but her body really rejected these human foods.
Lamia was in a dilemma.
At this point, Harry finally put down the chicken pie in his hand, wiped his mouth, looked at Lamia, and then looked at Mrs. Weasley who was waiting for a response.
"Mrs. Weasley, don't worry. Lamia just ate too much this afternoon. She's not hungry now. The food you cook is so delicious. How could Lamia not like it?"
Harry winked at Lamia, meaning, I'm speaking for you, so just cooperate.
Lamia sighed, and ultimately decided that she would rather tell a trivial lie than a secret that could not be told.
"Yes, ma'am, I like it very much - the food you cooked today is delicious, as delicious as usual." Lamia forced herself to pick up a chicken pie and put it in her mouth to chew. The moment the animal muscle fibers burst in her mouth, Lamia almost wanted to vomit, but she swallowed it back.
Harry was sitting opposite Lamia. He saw Lamia's situation clearly and couldn't help but feel sorry for her. Harry thought Lamia was so pitiful that she couldn't even taste so many delicious foods.
"Lamia, I'm glad you like it. There's more, don't worry." Mrs. Weasley gave Lamia another pie with satisfaction. Lamia smiled bitterly. Everyone who knew the inside story wanted to laugh, especially the Weasley twins, who had already started covering their mouths and chuckling.
