Chapter 131 Knight Bus
On this day, Lamia was walking down the streets of Diagon Alley as usual, looking at the beautiful clothes and exquisite accessories displayed in the windows. Although she didn't buy anything, she felt very happy just looking at them, especially since she had almost no worries recently.
But Lamia has not forgotten her desire to go back. Now it is just an experience at most. She will definitely complete the mission and go back to realize her ambitions.
Just as Lamia was drinking chicken soup, a huge black shadow flashed past in the narrow alley beside her. Lamia keenly caught the figure - it was a big black dog.
The black dog obviously noticed Lamia as well. Its eyes were like sharp swords, causing Lamia to squint. Although it was covered in dirt, Lamia could tell that this black dog was not just a dog.
Recalling Sirius Black, who was often talked about in the Leaky Cauldron, his Animagus form was a black dog, and he was wanted for escaping from Azkaban.
Lamia never had the idea of saving the world, and certainly would not risk her life to report a wanted criminal on the run.
So after realizing that he had no ill intentions towards her, Lamia withdrew her gaze and pretended that she had never met him. Sirius seemed to have something important to do, and after finding that Lamia had no intention of stopping him, he quickly disappeared at the end of the alley.
After Lamia returned to her house, everything that had just happened flashed through her mind. The direction in which Sirius disappeared was familiar, and it seemed to be a Muggle residential area.
Lamia didn't think anything of it at first, but she accidentally heard the wizards speculating that Sirius's purpose of escaping from prison was to seek revenge on Harry Potter, which suddenly woke her up. Harry lived in the Muggle residential area, and that was exactly the direction she saw Sirius disappear last time.
Lamia didn't want to get involved in this mess at all, but Harry, she wanted to save him. Whether it was out of protection of the food or not wanting to make Mrs. Weasley sad, Lamia had a reason to go.
After simply packing up her things, Lamia began to worry. She was very far away from Privet Drive, especially since she couldn't use Floo powder. She couldn't rely on her two legs or wings, which would definitely tire her to death. What's more, Sirius was already one step ahead, and Lamia couldn't fall too far behind.
Just as she was considering whether to borrow the Weasleys' car, a pair of huge wheels and headlights screeched to a halt right where Lamia had just walked away.
Even Lamia didn't hear any sound. She took a few steps back and stood firm before looking at the wheels and headlights of unknown origin.
Lamia looked up and saw that the wheels and lights belonged to a three-decker bus that had appeared from thin air. Gold letters on the windshield spelled out the words: KNIGHT BUS.
"Welcome aboard the Knight Bus, our emergency transportation service for witches and wizards in distress. Just hold out your wand and step aboard, and we'll take you wherever you need to go. My name is Stan Shunpike, and I'll be your conductor tonight—"
The ticket seller suddenly stopped talking. There was no one in front of him. There was a silver-haired girl standing there just now, but now she appeared a hundred meters away from him.
Lamia would not let someone who appeared out of nowhere get close to her, and of course the farther away the better.
"Come here, miss, I won't hurt you. Don't you want to go to Privet Drive?" Stan Shunpike leaned out with the handrail and waved to Lamia.
Lamia was surprised that he actually knew her destination, so she walked over. After all, in this world, no matter how strange the things were, they were not strange.
"Miss, where's your wand?" Stan Shunpike said curiously as he stood at the bus entrance.
Lamia rummaged through her bosom and then her luggage, and finally found the wand in a robe pocket. "Here." Lamia opened her palm and walked closer to find that Sampark looked very young, eighteen or nineteen at most, with a pair of big fan-shaped ears and a few small pimples on his face.
"So it wasn't you who held out the wand. But it's okay. We serve any wizard in need." Sunpark glanced at the wand in her hand and wrote something on the paper. "Why were you so far away just now? Haven't you seen the Knight Bus?"
It turned out that in Sampark's view, his work was the most important and he was able to help every wizard, so he should be remembered by everyone. However, this young lady seemed to be unaware of this and her tone of voice could not help but carry a hint of dissatisfaction.
"Well, I haven't seen it." Lamia nodded honestly, "But - this job looks very important." She observed Sampaq's expression and added at the right time.
As she finished speaking, Sampark became visibly happier, and even his writing and drawing movements became much faster. "You're a connoisseur. What's your name?" He was always patient with a female wizard who was connoisseur and good-looking, even if someone in the car had already started complaining.
"Lamia Nocturne," Lamia said lightly.
"It's a nice name. You're going to 4 Privet Drive, right?" Thornpark continued.
"Yes, I hope to arrive tomorrow, is that okay?" Although Lamia asked in a questioning tone, her eyes made it impossible for Sampark to say no.
"Of course, Miss Knocktern, if you will allow me to call you that, our cars do charge a toll. It will cost you about eleven silver Sickles to get to Privet Drive. If you pay fourteen, you get chocolates. If you pay fifteen, you get a thermos and a toothbrush in the color of your choice."
Sampak businesslikely tore off a piece of paper with a string of numbers written on it. "But don't worry, you just need five silver Sickles. Here's my phone number." He blinked.
Lamia took the note strangely, but had no intention of putting it in her arms. Instead, she wrapped it in eleven silver Sickles and handed it over, avoiding any contact with his skin.
"You don't know what's good for you. Get on." Sampar made way for the car with dissatisfaction, leaving a gap wide enough for one person. After Lamia got on the car, she found that there was not even a single seat in the car. Behind the window with the curtains drawn, there were six beds with brass pillars. There was a candle lit on the bracket next to each bed, illuminating the wall with wainscoting.
"You sleep on this one." Sampark pointed coldly to a spot near the corner, which was covered with food residue.
"Excuse me, I'd like to change seats." Lamia covered her nose in disgust. The car was full of sleeping wizards, and the smell was not that pleasant.
"You paid such a small amount of money, and you still want to change your seat?" Before Sampark could say anything, a male wizard in the shadows began to taunt him.
Lamia could tell that this was the person who was impatient with her, so she stopped looking at him.
