In the book, the female supporting role dreams of being an idle fish

Chapter 19 Worship, Order Furniture, and Rent a House

Jiang Wen hurried to Cui's house, right in front of Aunt Cui's house at the street office. The courtyard gate was open, as was the main room door. The sunlight shone on the bicycle, reflecting a dazzling light.

The whole family sat in the yard. Seeing Jiang Wen, the enthusiastic Aunt Cui took the initiative to ask, "Do you want to borrow a bicycle? I saw you looking at a bicycle, do you want one?"

"Yes, we plan to go back to the village to visit my father and my eldest brother." Jiang Wen's answer was within Aunt Cui's expectations.

"It's right at the door, so push it. Be careful on the way."

Jiang Wen thanked him and reached out to grip the handlebars of the bicycle, feeling the coolness of the metal while gently kicking the tire to make sure it had enough air.

Jiang Wen got on the bicycle, stepped on the pedals hard, and the bike drove out of the yard briskly.

The breeze blew across Jiang Wen's face, bringing a hint of coolness, and he enjoyed this moment.

When we got to our yard, we got off the car.

I went in, took yesterday’s pastries and put them in my backpack.

The family locked the door and came out.

Two bicycles sit separately.

Gu Lixia brought Xiu'er with her. Xiu'er was holding the third child, Jiang Huaixi.

Jiang Wen was leading the second son Huaibei in front and the eldest son Huainan behind, with Huainan carrying a backpack.

Just sit down and set off.

The neighbors sat under the big willow tree outside the yard, chatting about family matters.

Looking at the two bicycles, the topic naturally turned to the Jiang family's children.

"Do you think Jiang Wen from the Jiang family has really grown up?" a neighbor said first.

"Yes, she was sensible before. She did housework and took care of her young nephews. When she was a child, she took Jiang Xiu with her wherever she went." Another neighbor echoed.

“My academic performance has also improved.”

Everyone spoke one after another, praising Jiang Wen.

His tone was full of appreciation.

It means a family that has a daughter and is not interested in being a stepmother.

Fortunately, I heard from Jiang's father that these two boys were going to the countryside.

I am not engaged to this child, otherwise I would raise these four children and have more in the future.

It's easier to take care of one child if you have more than one. If there's no elder to help, and you can't even support one child, then if one child dies, what's the point?

Fortunately, there is no engagement.

It's a pity about that job.

Jiang Wen, who was being talked about by his neighbors, was riding his bicycle on the road leading to the countryside.

In simpler times, bicycles were the main means of transportation.

The family dressed in simple clothes and set out in the morning sunshine.

The road was bumpy and dusty, but that didn't stop them.

The two pedaled hard, the wheels making a "crunching" sound on the dirt road. There was a backpack hanging on the handlebars.

To Gu Lixia, the scenery along the way was like a series of ancient paintings.

In the fields, corn seedlings sway gently in the breeze, full of vitality.

An hour and a half later, I finally returned to my hometown. The rural houses were low and simple, but they exuded a strong atmosphere of life.

The farmers were working hard in the fields, herding cattle and sheep, with simple smiles on their faces.

The half-brick and half-mud houses are scattered around in an orderly manner, with wisps of smoke rising from the chimneys.

Children were running and playing, their laughter filling the air.

When you walk into the Jiang family’s yard in the countryside, the first thing that catches your eye is the half-brick and half-tile wall. They are stacked in an interlaced manner, revealing the traces of time.

There are five rooms in total: a kitchen, a main room, and three bedrooms. General Du Tie is in charge of the gate.

The yard is full of carefully tended vegetable plots, with all kinds of vegetables growing well and looking lush and green.

The ground in the yard has become uneven due to long-term trampling, but it is full of the breath of life.

"Ever since grandma started living with us, the house has been looked after by our neighbor, the youngest son of our grandfather, who is also from the same clan. We've left the key with them. When it rains, we check for leaks. We also let them farm in the yard. At first, they wanted to grow grain, but dad wouldn't let them. He said they wanted to grow vegetables so we could occasionally come back and get some. They were definitely willing to farm their land, so they've continued to farm ever since."

"What about this family?" Gu Lixia did not agree, but went straight to the point.

"They're quite nice, all simple people. They were the ones who helped the most with Dad and Big Brother's funeral arrangements. My uncle and aunt are old, and they have many children. Five boys and two girls in total."

"I mentioned it a couple of days ago when I came back to do some work. He said he was getting married and there wasn't enough room at home. He wanted to live in our house. I didn't respond directly."

"There's no reason to live in a house for free. Let's write each other a note. The house is for rent, not for them."

"In private. His family gives us some food every year, 100 kilograms, including millet, mung beans, and red beans." Jiang Wen nodded after hearing this, indicating that he agreed with Gu Lixia's proposal.

He thought that this would not only help his neighbors solve their housing problems, but also ensure that his own house would not be idle and abandoned, and he could get some food in return, which was a win-win situation.

So Jiang Wen decided to go find his neighbor uncle and aunt to discuss the matter later.

He believed that given his uncle's simple character, he would not have any major objections.

After all, this is a win-win solution.

Jiang Wen carried cakes and led his three boys to pay homage to their father and brother. This was an act full of tradition and respect.

With a heavy heart, I walked along the rugged path towards the tomb on the mountain.

In the cemetery, the graves were neatly arranged. Jiang Wen stood silently in front of his father and brother's graves, tears in his eyes.

He gently stroked the names on the tombstone, as if he could feel the presence of his loved ones.

Then, he lit incense and candles, offered sacrifices, and silently expressed his inner blessings to his father and brother.

Huainan and Huaibei, the two most sensible children, burst into tears. Huaixi, seeing his brother crying, also cried.

Jiang Wen recalled the good times he spent with his father and brother, his father's hard work and kindness, and his brother's bravery and intelligence.

These memories make him feel warm and comforted, and also make him cherish his present life more.

After the worship, Jiang Wen picked up the cakes and led his three children away slowly, with deep longing for his father and brother in his heart.

He knew that his loved ones had passed away.

The children are still young, so they won’t come here often in the future.

Send the children home.

I went to the carpenter's house to customize furniture and told him Gu Lixia's requirements. The carpenter did this often and was from the same village, so he was very easy to talk to.

Jiang Wen went home and waited until his neighbor's family came back at noon. He then went to his neighbor's house and explained his purpose.

After hearing this, the neighbor uncle and aunt readily agreed and expressed their gratitude to Jiang Wen.

"Jiang Wen, thank you so much. We were worried about where to live, and you've really helped us a lot."
