Persistence in the wind and rain

The operating room lights were cold and glaring, like a sharp blade hanging over Luo Yichen's heart. He paced back and forth, each step akin to treading on the edge of a knife, piercing his heart with pain. Time ticked by, each second a torment. He kept thinking of Wu Xinyan's pale face, her painful moans, and her weak, "My stomach... hurts..." His heart felt like it was being gripped by an invisible hand, making it nearly impossible to breathe.

"Mr. Luo, don't worry too much. Miss Wu is blessed by fate." Lawyer Sun handed him a glass of water, trying to comfort him.

Luo Yichen, however, acted as if he hadn't heard anything, his gaze never leaving the operating room door. That door separated him from Wu Xinyan, and also from all his hopes. Trembling, he pulled the sweat-soaked note from his pocket. The handwriting was still clear: "Yichen, if possible, I hope..." The rest of the words were blurred by tears; he couldn't see clearly, nor could he guess.

"If possible, what else do you hope for? You must be safe and sound. We still have a lot to do and a lot to say..." Luo Yichen murmured in a low voice, his tone full of pleading and despair.

Time seemed to stand still. The only sounds in the corridor were Luo Yichen's heavy breathing and the sound of his leather shoes tapping on the ground. Suddenly, the door of the operating room opened, and Dr. Sun walked out tiredly, took off his mask, and breathed a sigh of relief.

"Doctor, how is it? Are my wife and children okay?" Luo Yichen stood up suddenly, grabbed Dr. Sun's hand, and asked anxiously.

"Mr. Luo, calm down first." Doctor Sun gently patted the back of Luo Yichen's hand, signaling him to relax. "Ms. Wu's condition is quite complicated. She is a premature baby, and..."

Doctor Sun paused, as if trying to organize his words. "Besides, they are twins, so the operation is very difficult. Fortunately, we have done our best, and both mother and child are safe."

"Mother and child are safe?" Luo Yichen seemed to have heard the sound of nature. He repeated these words over and over again, tears welling up in his eyes. "Thank you, Doctor Sun, thank you..."

"This is what we should do." Doctor Sun smiled. "Ms. Wu will need to stay in the observation room for a while. Once her condition stabilizes, you can go see her."

Luo Yichen nodded excitedly and watched the nurse push Wu Xinyan out of the operating room. He finally breathed a sigh of relief and slumped weakly in the chair.

However, what he didn't know was that at the other end of the corridor, Nanny Wang was clasping her hands together, praying silently, her eyes filled with worry and expectation...

Nanny Wang's lips trembled as she silently chanted over and over, "God bless my wife and the children, please be safe, please be safe..." Ever since Wu Xinyan became pregnant, Nanny Wang had been caring for her meticulously, loving her like her own daughter. Watching Wu Xinyan being wheeled into the operating room, she worried more than anyone else, yet she felt powerless and could only place all her hopes in the gods.

Luo Yichen was unaware of Nanny Wang's anxiety. He was lost in memories, his memories of his time with Wu Xinyan flashing through his mind like clips from a movie. He recalled the tense first encounter, the gradual letting down of their guard as they got along, every meal she cooked for him, every time she'd asked about his well-being...

He also recalled that night when Wu Xinyan lingered outside his study for a long time, finally mustering the courage to press the note that read, "If possible, I hope..." into his hand, then ran off blushing. At the time, he was preoccupied with company matters and didn't pay much attention. Now, thinking about it, did those unfinished words also contain her hopes for a child and her vision for the future?

"If possible, I hope you can spend more time with me and our child..." Luo Yichen seemed to hear Wu Xinyan's voice, echoing softly in his ears. He suddenly realized that he had always ignored her feelings, only caring about work, leaving all the pressure on her.

He clenched his fists and pounded the wall hard, regret and self-blame flooding him like a tide. If anything happened to Wu Xinyan and the child, he would live in pain and self-blame forever.

At that moment, Nanny Wang's phone suddenly rang. She hurriedly picked up the call, but before the other party could speak, her face turned pale. She hung up the phone with trembling hands and turned to look towards the operating room, her eyes filled with fear...

After a long wait, the lights in the operating room finally went out.

The cold metal door slowly opened, revealing the exhausted figure of Doctor Sun. Luo Yichen, disregarding his image, dashed over to him, clutching his shoulders with both hands. His voice trembled violently, "Doctor Sun, how's my wife? Is the child...is the child okay?"

Dr. Sun took off his mask, breathed a sigh of relief, and a relieved smile appeared on his face: "Mr. Luo, congratulations, both mother and child are safe! Miss Wu is very strong. She gave birth to twins for you!"

"Mother and child are safe..." Luo Yichen repeated these words weakly, as if all his strength had been drained away. He closed his eyes and let the tears flow. In these tears, there was fear and self-blame, but more of it was the joy and relief of surviving the disaster.

He rushed into the ward. Wu Xinyan lay on the bed, her face pale and her breath weak, yet she couldn't conceal the radiance of a new mother. He sat down beside the bed, carefully holding her cold hand. He leaned over and whispered in her ear, "Xinyan, thank you, thank you for giving birth to my child. You've worked so hard..."

Nanny Wang, holding two babies in swaddling clothes, walked forward with a smile: "Sir, look, how cute the young master and young lady are!"

Luo Yichen then turned his gaze to the two little ones. Their delicate little faces, even before they opened their eyes, were already adorable. He reached out his fingers and gently touched their tender cheeks, a warm feeling instantly welling up in his heart.

"Xinyan, look, our child..." Luo Yichen's voice choked. He turned his head and found a crystal teardrop flowing from the corner of Wu Xinyan's eye...

Wu Xinyan's tears silently slid down, soaking the snow-white pillow. She slowly opened her eyes, her vision still a little blurry, but she could clearly feel her hands being tightly wrapped by a pair of warm hands.

"Xinyan, you're awake!" Luo Yichen's surprised voice sounded in her ears, with deep fatigue and unconcealable joy.

Wu Xinyan turned around and saw Luo Yichen's haggard face, her heart aching. His eyes were red, and there was a blue stubble on his chin, obviously he hadn't slept all night. She smiled weakly, her voice hoarse: "Yichen, I...how long have I slept?"

"It's not important. I'm glad you woke up." The worry in Luo Yichen's eyes gradually dissipated. He gently helped her up and gently leaned her against his arms. "How do you feel? Are you feeling unwell?"

"I'm fine, just a little tired." Wu Xinyan shook her head and turned her gaze to the two little ones in Nanny Wang's arms. "Are they... our children?"

"Yes, our children, a pair of lovely twins, a boy and a girl." Luo Yichen's eyes were filled with love. He took one of the children from Nanny Wang and gently placed it in Wu Xinyan's arms. "Look, this is our daughter, as beautiful as you."

Wu Xinyan looked down at the little life in her arms. Her pink little face and long eyelashes looked very much like Luo Yichen's. She couldn't help but reach out her finger and gently touch her daughter's soft cheek. A warm feeling instantly surged in her heart.

"Xinyan, thank you, thank you for giving birth to them for me." Luo Yichen's voice was a little choked. He leaned over and placed a loving kiss on Wu Xinyan's forehead. "I swear, no matter what difficulties you encounter in the future, I will always be by your side and protect your happiness."

Wu Xinyan's tears welled up again, this time, tears of happiness. She knew that the man in front of her was someone she could entrust her life to.

"Yi Chen, let's go home..."

"Go home?" Luo Yichen was stunned for a moment, then smiled with relief, "Yes, let's go home."

He turned to look at Nanny Wang and ordered, "Auntie Wang, go get ready. We will be discharged today."

"Okay, sir." Nanny Wang's face was filled with joy. She turned around and walked out of the ward with the child in her arms.

Luo Yichen looked at Wu Xinyan's pale face and felt a little reluctant, but he also knew that nothing was more important than making her feel at ease.

"Xinyan, wait a little longer, wait..."
